An Introduction to Face Reading: (personology)Your face is the mirror of your personality. Statistical results have shown that there is a strong connection between facial features and personality traits. Since thousands of years people have been trying to study the relationship between facial features andpersonality traits.The findings that they have reached have proven that you can judge someone's personality through his face features with a high degree of confidence.For example, you might have noticed that people who look alike tend to behave in the same way or at least have some common behavior or traits.You may have also noticed that all young babies act the same way and that all of their facial features are almost the same (Curved forehead which reflects creativity, big cheeks which reflects energy and wide eyes for sensitivity...etc).How Accurate is Face Reading (personology)?A research that was based on statistics was made and the result was the identification of 68 personality traits that are connected to some facial features with a 90% accuracy.And this is where face reading was born. Face reading is not a new science as it has been around ever since our ancestors lived but because its a subject that doesn't always appeal to skeptics many people didn't even give themselves the chance to try it.I am a psychologist who studied both engineering and psychology. Below is an explanation of each type according to face reading and the personality trait associated with each of them.Types of foreheads The straight forehead (The progressive thinker):This person follows a progressive style in his thinking; he can't jump to the third point without first knowing the second. Sometimes he is misunderstood as a child and thought of as dumb, but in fact he may be very intelligent. It's just his progressive style of thinking that needs to be taken into consideration. This person may not have a fast reflex action for example if he dropped something he may not be able to catch it before it reaches the ground. The slopped forehead (The fast responder):That person builds conclusions fast to the extent that he may interrupt you many times while you are talking because he keeps on guessing what are you about to say. This person may get bored when talking to someone with a straight forehead because of the speed difference between them. The response of such a person is very fast and that's why you will find most skilled football and basket ball players with slopped foreheads. You're also most likely to notice how players with straight foreheads arent that good because of their slow responses and again I repeat this is not related to intelligence at all. One final thing about such people is that they are fast decision-makers which may cause them many problems. The curved forehead (The creative):This person is very creative, just notice how the forehead of those who study fine arts looks like and you will notice how most of them have curved foreheads. That person hates restrictions and rules, he likes to use his imagination and would probably hate math and accounting but excel in arts. When the forehead is curved and in the same time occupies a big section of the head then this means that this person is very intelligent or even a genius. You'd be safe asking that person for help if you are in need of a creative solution to any problem you're facing.Combined forehead profilesIn real life many people will have a combination of more than one forehead profile. For example you might find a person with a slightly slopped forehead.The closer the person is to a certain facial feature the closer he will be to the personality traits associated with it. He is called the helper because he has a natural tendency to help others. He may join charity groups for the satisfaction he feels when he does these kinds of activities. The only draw back is that he is sometimes taken advantage of by his friends.When nose tip is round :If the nose tip is round when observed from a front view then this person is nosy!! He likes to know about everything that is going on and he may try to get all information out of you If there's something that he knows little about. Don't make him feel like you are hiding something if you want to get along with him. What's pretty funny is that the word nosy here is related to the nose which shows that this word may have had a face reading origin.Nose profile going up:When, viewed from the side, the horizontal line at the bottom of the nose can be pointing upwards. A person with this kind of nose trusts everything. This person is very skeptical and he barely believes anything new unless he gets all the proofs he asks for. When dealing with him, bear in mind that he will ask a big number of questions before he can believe you.Nose profile is horizontal:when the same nose profile is horizontal then this person is neither a skeptic nor a person who believes in anything. This person has a balanced approach when hearing about something new.Face Reading (personology) and Chin Pointed chin:A person with a pointed chin is a stubborn person just like the one withlong front teeth. Having both features together means that the person is very stubborn. Square chin:A square-chinned person is called the challenger. That person always challenges problems by standing up whenever he falls. He never gives up until he reaches what he wants. In face reading, whenever the facial features are relatively smaller to those of normal people then the person is considered asensitive person. People with small chins and small facial features are very sensitive to criticism and overwhelming life events. Criticize those people and they will hate you, shout at them and they may not approach you again. In order to get along with a sensitive person try to be more nurturing than usual. Round chin:A person with a round chin is a friendly person, he is neither aggressive nor harsh. Remember the impression you got when you first saw Martin Lawrence in the movie big mama's house? He seemed very friendly because of all round facial features he had. This person loves social gatherings and usually provides a very nice company. If you enter a new place, for example, a shopping mall and wanted to ask for help then the best one would be someone with round facial features. Protruding chin:What is meant by a protruding chin is that the chin seems to be protruding when viewed from the side view rather than being perfectly vertical (just like a witch's chin in cartoons!!). This person cannot let go of things easily and holds on to them as much as he can. This person rarelyquits anything midwayand this applies to relationships too. Receding chin:People with receding chins are exactly the opposite of those who have protruding ones. People with receding chins are the type of people who have got lots of semi finished projects because they find it hard to commit to anything to the end unless they really need it. Neither receding nor protruding chin:People with chins that are neither protruding nor receding have a balanced approach towards commitment.Those people don't quit midway but they also know when to give up.Face Reading (personology) and EyebrowsAccording to face reading The shape of the eyebrows identifies different personality traits that are related to thinking styles.In addition to the way a person thinks there are lots of other things that can be known by checking how the eyebrows look like. You should take special care with women because of the cosmetics they use which can totally reshape the eyebrows and so give false signatures. Below are some different shapes of eyebrows and their associated personality traits.Eyebrow types in face reading Straight eyebrows (The logical):When eyebrows are straight (like a straight line) then this means that this person is a logical thinker. If you want to convince him to believe in something then you must only use logic and solid proofs. That person may also suffer fromsleeping problemswhen a major event in his life happens because of his continues thinking Angled eyebrows (The authority seeker):You must take a great deal of care when dealing with such a person. The person with angled eyebrows that have an inverted "v" shape always seeks control and authority. Try noticing how many presidents have angled eyebrows and you'd be surprised. Those people usually fight fiercely for authority and high status. He almost never buys anything that he does not truly need. During his work, he focuses on getting the job done rather than focusing on how to do it. Low set ears:A person with low set ears has a lower rate of receiving information. Give him very fast instructions and he will be totally lost. Make sure you always give him instructions slowly and use diagrams whenever applicable when dealing with him.If that person has a big eye to eyebrows distance too then he will be slow in receiving and processing information and so you may find him the last one to finish work or to hand the exam paper.People with low set ears may be very idealistic, they focus on how the job is done in addition to focusing on getting it done.Face Reading (personology): Face Shape and Profile Broad face in face reading:In face reading a broad face means that the height and width of the face are very close to each other in length. A person with a broad face is confident by nature, unless he haslost his self confidencesomewhere through his life.When i say confident by nature i mean that this person feels more confident than others especially when facing new experiences. This person has also got good influencing abilities. He usually has a relativity larger distance between his two eyes (high tolerance) because of his broad face.This person may not be interested in small details but would rather be interested in the bigger view or the full picture. For example, when telling him about a car accident don't bother telling him about the car colors because he wouldn't be interested, he may not be even interested in the car types. A person like that would make a good manager and that's why you will notice that most managers are broad faced. Thin face in face reading:The thin face is easily noticed because it appears to be longer than normal faces. People with thin faces have long faces that have low width compared to their height. A thin faced person is confident by experience and not by nature. This means that when trying something new he may feel afraid oranxious. If he has a small eye distance in addition to a slim face then he may be interested in small details. The main challenge concerning thin faced people isfear. Fear is a very big part of their lives and this may motivate them stick to a certain comfort zone and stay away from adventures. Balanced face , Neither slim nor broad:In face reading whenever someone falls in between two major categories then this means that this person has balanced personality traits. For example the person who has a face that is neither slim nor broad has a balanced approach towards fear and the love for details Round face:People with round faces are friendly by nature; they like social gatherings and provide a nice company. If for example you were his manager and you had to give him instructions then make sure it's as brief as possible else he may get bored. According to face readings those people are non conformists who don't like to stick to rules or regulations. This doesn't mean that they are bad people because a person's personality is also affected by his values and beliefs. For example if someone has small ears i can assume that he hates to listen but if that person had small ears and in the same time had big lips then certainly i can guess that he only loves to talk and hates to listen.Face Reading (personology) and Ear PositionWhat is meant by the ear position in face reading is the position of ears in respect to the head. Some people have most of their heads in front of their ears while others have their heads behind their ears (when observed from the side view).The person who has most of his head in front of his ears is said to have "forward balance" while the person who has most of his head behind his ears is said to have "backward balance".In this article i will tell you aboutthe relevance of ear position in face reading.The relevance of ear position in face reading Forward balance:People with forward balance enjoy being in the center of attention. Their voices may be loud and they care a lot about being noticed. Ignoring a person with forward balance is like killing him.If you want to get along with that person then make him feel that he is getting your attention. People with forward balance tend to think more of the future than they think about the past. They may not regret what they did in the past (like people with backward balance) but rather focus on how to change what is to come. Backward balance:On the contrary people with backward balance prefer to be in the rear lines. They rarely seek attention and avoid being in the spotlight. A person with backward balance thinks a lot about the past and may remember bad things that happened to him a long time ago unlike people with forward balance who just care about what's coming. Note that attention seeking behaviour is not always related to lack of self confidence, both persons canlearn to be confidentwith disregard to their forward or backward balance Those who fall in between:Some people neither have a forward balance nor a backward balance but their ears seem to be positioned in the middle of their heads. Those people have a balanced approach towards thinking about the past and towards attention seeking.Face reading, ear position and personalityAs a psychologist i believe that personality traits such as attention seeking behaviour results from childhood experiences.So if that's the case then how can a person's face determine his personality or a trait such as attention seeking?In fact, one interesting theory states that our facial features keep changing as our personalities change and that our final face shape determines who we currently are.Teeth relevance in face readingWhat's interesting about face reading is that any facial feature even the ones that don't appear to be important can reveal things about the personality.Of course some people can manipulate their looks through plastic surgery and that's why all face reading tips i give are based on the assumption that the person still maintains his real looks. In this article i will tell you about the relevance ofteeth in face reading.Face Reading (personology) and Teeth Long front teeth:When the two front middle teeth are much longer than the other teeth then this means that this person is stubborn especially if hischin was pointedtoo. This teeth-chin combination shows that you are dealing with someone who cannot be forced to do anything that he doesn't want to do. If you do push against this person's will then he will push back strongly. The only way you can deal with such a person is by beingflexible. One of the famous examples for situations where stubborn people resist people's desire to force them to do things that they don't want to do is when you keep calling them while they're busy with something to the extent that they may finish their task and decide to not answer you or call you back; you may end up calling them forever that day! Big distance between front teeth:If the distance between the two front teeth is big in such a way that there's a gap in between them then this means that this person may be a risk taker. He may rush to buy something or to try something new. A peaked hair-line [Fig 4] indicates troubled teenage and therefore the person feels insecure. The person will have high intelligence but narrow views. Their revolutionary ideas will make them join some anti-social groups.

We can divide the forehead into two parts, horizontally [Fig 7]. The upper part represents the childhood of the person where as the lower part tells about his career.

If the lower half part is high, shiny and without any blemishes, then the person settles in good job or career early. He will also enjoy good social status by the time he gets middle age. If this region is depressed or with black scars, then the person will face difficulties in getting the job. He has to work on less pay and he may change the jobs several times.

Vertical creases on foreheadVertical creases on forehead

The vertical creases or lines generally rise between the eyebrows. They are not good in general meaning. When a single vertical crease is found between the eyebrows [Fig 8], the person becomes selfish, egotistical and ambitious. He will work for his personal goals and reach a good position in his career. He will make enemies because of his selfish nature. Sometimes, the vertical crease also indicates premature and violent death.

Two vertical creases which are in parallel on the forehead represent a person who can see others point of view. Such a person will have good understanding of others feelings. Generally the two vertical creases represent a good talent for acting. When the two vertical creases on forehead are sloping inward [Fig 9] or bent outward [Fig 10], they represent ego-centric nature of the person. His personal relationships will not be good. Such a person cannot achieve much.

When three vertical creases are found in parallel [Fig 11], the person achieves early success and becomes a celebrity.

When there are more than three vertical creases on the forehead, the person becomes restless and aimless in his life and often indulges in bad habits like liquors or drugs.

Meaning of Horizontal lines on forehead

We can find up to 7 horizontal lines on the forehead. These lines are linked with the 7 planets in Astrology. The line in the middle of the forehead is associated with the planet Sun.

The horizontal lines starting from the hair-line down to the eyebrows are ruled by the planets in the order: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and Moon. [Fig 12]

It is obvious that when we meet an unknown person, we try to understand his feelings by looking at his face. So the origin of Physiognomy traces back to the date of origin of human beings. Indications of a person's progress in yogic path are described with respect to Physiognomy in Hindu text 'Svetasvatara Upanishad', composed earlier than 500 B.C. According to Hindus, Samudra (deity of oceans) have first given 'Anga Samudrika' (Body language). King Prahlada has contributed a lot to this subject. Chinese texts dating back 300 B.C., mention Physiognomy.

Socrates(470-399 B.C.) was a great physiognomist. The first book on Physiognomy 'Displaying the Secrets of Nature Relating to Physiognomy' was written by Aristotle(384-322 B.C.). As it was mentioned by Marco Polo, the Arabs also practised physiognomy. Physician and philosopher Avicenna(980-1037 A.D.) has written about Physiognomy in his book 'De animalibus'. Michael Scot(1175-1232 A.D.), court astrologer to Emperor FrederickII, also composed a book 'De hominis phisiognomun', which was printed in 1477 and became best seller for years together. Italian doctor d'Abano(1250-1316) also wrote many books on both Astrology and Physiognomy. During sixteenth century many authors have written books on this subject. Gerolamo Cardano, born in Italy in 1501, wrote many books on Medicine, Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics, Astrology, Dream Analysis, and Physiognomy. Cardano believed that a person's character and fate are symbolized by the shape, lines, and markings of his or her forehead. He wrote a total of 13 books on the subject of forehead reading. In 1586, Porta published 'De humana physiognoma' in which he compares the likenesses of human beings to certain animals. He says if some one resembles a particular animal, he will also have the same tendencies and temperament of that animal. Kaspar Lavater(1741-1801) was regarded as the founder of the modern Physiognomy for his tremendous work in this subject. Later on Cesare Lombroso has made this subject more popular.

By observing the face of a person as a whole, we can get a keen idea of how his life would be in general, starting from childhood till his old age.

1. Parents region:The position where the hair starts at the top of forehead represents parents and the person's relationship with them. If this area is smooth and shining, the person's parents are fortunate in matters of health and career and the person's childhood is filled with happiness. If this area is indented or with dull skin color then the person's parents face troubles during his childhood.

2. Career and Success region:We have this area below the Parents region and above the eyebrows. If this position is good, gently rounded and bright, it represents good career prospects and early settlement in the career. If this area is indented or hollow and dark in color, it shows the person's intelligence will not help him in his career and misfortune from his 21st to 25th years.

3. Life region:This area lies between the eyebrows. If it is firm, bright, gently rounded, then it symbolizes a successful career after 27th year of age. It represents a friendly person with positive attitude towards life. If the space between eyebrows is wide and eyebrows are thick the person earn good money and his longevity is also good. If the eyebrows are closer and there is a hair line connecting the two eyebrows, it is a sign of negative mind who is obstinate and unforgiving. If this Life region is dull or any colors found there, it represents unhappiness in career and poor health.

4. Middle age region:This region starts at center of the eyes and covers till the end of the nose tip. Any cross lines, patches and black spots in this region represent ill health and problems with the spouse in the middle age.

5. Love and Emotional region:This is the area below the two eyes. If this area is bright, bulgy and rounded, the person will have deep emotional involvement. He or she will fall in love easily and whole heartedly. If this area has wrinkles or low and not smooth, then the person faces failures in love affairs due to selfishness or over indulgence.

6. Fertility and children region:This area represents the groove which connects the nose with the center of the upper lip. This is also called philtrum. A long, broad and deep philtrum indicates good fertility and ability to have children. It also represents long life. When the philtrum is low or flat, it represents less energy and childlessness. A short philtrum represents early death.

7. Old age region:This is the region below the lower lip which is also called the chin. If this area is strong, rounded and spacious, it represents happiness in old age after 60th year. If this area is low with a weak jaw and dark hue, it indicates unhappy and friendless old age. It also represents dangers of drowning, poisoning, and food or water born diseases.

Shapes of faces:Round shaped faces are also called Moon faces. They represent laziness, lack of energy, imaginative and jovial persons. They love good food and highly domestic.

Square shaped faces are called Earth faces. They represent a tough and aggressive person, offensive and sociable. They are suitable for works where more muscular energy is required.

Rectangular faces represent a honest, diplomatic and leadership qualities. They are suitable for professions as top level executives and officials.

We can also have triangular faces. An upright triangle which starts with narrow area at the forehead and comes down widening, represents Fire face. This is a symbol for anger, low talent but boastful, and rough person.

An inverted triangle which becomes narrowed at the chin, is also called Air face. This signifies a cheerful, bright temperament, hyperactive and sensitive person. This type of face indicates disturbed married life.

Side Profile of face:A straight face represents a person whose nature is balanced.

A concave face represents a person who sees dark side of life.

A convex face makes a person an optimist with a happy disposition.

If a straight horizontal line is drawn from the corner of the eye towards the ear, it should just touch the ear's upper portion. If the ear is located above the straight line, it denotes the person is of refined nature.

Ear set low below the line and close to the head represents criminal tendencies.

If the ear is erected out from the head, with much gap between the head and ear, the person depends on inner self to gain success.

Forehead:A high and even forehead with a good shining gives a person intelligence and a rich life to enjoy. Any black shades or black creases on forehead represents obstacles in his career. Three clear horizontal lines on the forehead give longevity.

Eyebrows:If the eyebrows are set apart, it represents broad mindedness.

Eyebrows close to each other represent critical minded person who expects exactness in every work.

If the eyebrows are high set, then it denotes an irresponsible attitude and superior tastes.

If the eyebrows are low set and nearer to the eyelids, then they represent a prudent and calculative nature and an insecure mind.

If the eyebrows are like a straight line, the person will become practical and unimaginative.

Eyes:The colored circular portion of the eye is called 'iris'. If these irisis float too high, we will have an unstable and disturbed person. He is not trust worthy. Sometimes it denotes premature death.

If the irisis sink too low in the eye, a cruel and perverse nature is indicated.

If the iris is large, thus occupying much of the space in the eye , the person cannot hide affections and emotions.

If the iris is small, and hence the white portion of the eye is much seen, then the person is secretive.

If the gap between the two eyes is large, the person is expansive and communicative.

If the eyes are closely set, then the person will be criticising others, and will not demonstrate his feelings.

Color of Eyes:A dark eye denotes a forceful nature than a light colored one. Light blue colored eyes represent flirtation. Deep blue is a sign of gentle love. Brown eyed people are devoted in love and friendship. Hazel eyes represent a highly impressionable and affectionate type. Grey represents good intellect and imagination. Green eyes denote an inventive and adaptable nature. Black eyes provide passion and tenderness.

Nose:If the nose is long, the person will be proud of his accomplishments. If short nose is found, we will have a free person escaping from responsibility. Broad nose gives stability of mind.

Nose tilted up with nostrils visible represents a spendthrift and emotional person.

Lips:The size of the upper lip represents the ability to love and the size of lower lip represents need for love.

If the lip corners are turned up, cheerful and friendly disposition is seen.

If the lip corners are turned down, irresolute person with depression can be seen.

Full and broad lips show sensuous tendency. Thin lips show brevity and concise behaviour of the person. He will also be a learned person.

Mouth:A large mouth is a sign of outgoing and extroverted person. A small mouth represents introverted, careful and cautious people.

Chin:A narrow, pointed or weak chin represents less energy and drive. They face problems in old age. A broad, round chin is symbolic of generosity and good humour. A broad and square shaped chin makes the person work hard. It is a mark of steadiness.

Jaw:A strong and deep jaw line just below the ear lobe represents the person has good will power and energy. Weak jaw indicates flexibility.

When the soul creates its body in the mother's womb, and slowly limb by limb is formed, the interactions of previous birth's instincts with the soul lead to alterations in the outer body. So by observing the outer body, we can estimate the inner self of the person. This is the root idea of Physiognomy.
