Facades Highest Security and individual Design
The facade is the most important factor in the appearance of any
building. Despite the high levels of protection offered by the
SÄLZER system it also allows a considerable degree of creativi-
ty by architects, designers and owners alike during the design
stages. The system is compatible with all windows and doors
from the extensive range offered by SÄLZER and can be tailored
to the same threat levels.
Many threat scenarios require simultaneous protection against
forced entry, ballistic and blast attacks. Exactly for these com-
bined security requirements SÄLZER facades offers the optimal
solution:
Forced Entry Resistance* Up to RC4 with 50 mm / 60 mm profile width
Up to RC5 with 73 mm cover profile width
Bullet Resistance Up to FB4-NS with 50 mm profile width
Up to FB7-NS with 60 mm profile width
Blast Resistance Different tests up to a reflect pressure of 357.5 kPa (3.575 bar)
with 60 mm profile width, GSA Level 2 (no splinters)
Complete building envelope from SÄLZER: double glazed facade with windows, doors, glass roofs and panel inserts. Despite the high incorporated security the architec-ture won the highly coveted architecture award RIBA EU.
* tests from both faces of the facade ensures safety against escape attempts from the inside also (e.g. application in prison, forensic hospitals).

Each project starts with the
consulting and planning,
over the production up to
the reliable installation. Our
worldwide active installa-
tion team install profession-
ally also under the hardest
climatic conditions.
Photo above: unsupported facade with aluminium door installed in a stairwell. Photo on the right: design example of a SÄLZER facade with flush-mounted door and panel fillings.
The SÄLZER facade also fulfils all demanded building
physical characteristics, such as water tightness, re-
sistance against wind load, air permeability. The tests
were carried out in accordance with the product standard
DIN EN 13830. Sound insulation was successful tested
as well as the mechanical durability of operable incorpo-
rated windows and doors.
The thermal insulation is tested in accordance with EN
ISO 10077-2. The facade offers, dependent on the seg-
mentation, glazing and security levels, a heat transfer
coeffizient Ucw up to 1.6 W/m2K.
The static value of the facade can be increased by inser-
tation of aluminium or steel profiles.
Facts of the Building Physics
The double facade is ventilated by ventilating valves, which are incorporated between the inner and exterior facade on the top/attica and in the base. These are controlled electronically by temperature sensors. Accessible grillage between the two facades can be used for cleaning.

Modular Design
Sun protection can be integrated in different design variations.
The modularity and versatile compatibility of the
SÄLZER products provide the basis for the individual
design of the facade.
Tested Systems SÄLZER offers a gapless security concept "completely
rounded". All tested and certified products in the
SYSTEM SÄLZER® can flexibly be integrated in the
same resistance class of the facade. The integration of
tilt-turn windows - which are forced entry and blast re-
sistant in the tilted window position, also available for
inclusion are both swing and sliding doors.
Design | Surfaces Finishes The varied SÄLZER product range offers almost unlim-
ited possibilities for designers and architects alike. Dif-
fering profile depths, cover sheets, profiles and top pan-
els made of metal, wood or stone in different colours
allow varied appearance. Thereby ensuring the compati-
bility of the products a high degree of reliability and ser-
viceability.
Doors can be integrated in the same resistance class as the facade like the installa-tion of windows in different variations.
6
Skylights in many Varieties and Secu-rity Levels SÄLZER skylights are designed according to the custom-
er requirement against forced entry, ballistic and / or
blast attacks. They can be manufactured as pent roof,
gabled roof or ditch roof.
A maximum light efficiency can be achieved by light scat-
tering glazing.
SÄLZER facades and skylights were tested in open range
tests and were classified in the GSA Level 2 (no splin-
ters). During an explosion no dangerous splinters
flew from the skylight at the roof into the room interior.
Certified Variety
Glazing | Panel Inserts Security glazing offers the same design variations as non
secured glazing e.g. mirrored, coloured, opaque or orna-
mental glasses. Panels in various materials, sizes and
forms can be incorporated. Different thicknesses of glaz-
ing and panels can be installed.
Therefore the facade can be designed according to the
individual needs.

Protecting Lives and Property. Worldwide.
According to the European Standard DIN 1522 + 1523
the resistance against shelling is divided into 7 classes:
FB1 up to FB7-NS.
In each class, the test specimen is shelled with another
weapon, calibres, bullet velocities and types and in differ-
ent distances.
In the highest security level FB7, the product is shot with
a rifle/calibre 7,62 x 51mm hard core, at defined points
by the European test standard or at weak points chosen
by the examinator of the test institute.
Among other point the SÄLZER facade was shelled at
various facade connections such as:
glass- or panel elements
connection to the wall
window and door frames
corner constructions.
Reliable protection can only be afforded by a co-
ordinated approach to using a fully tested system with
further emphasis on the design, manufacture and instal-
lation of each project.
As usual at SÄLZER the facades were tested and certi-
fied by independent institutes according to European
standards or according to individual customer require-
ments against forced entry, ballistic and blast attacks.
10
up to the highest class FB7-NS
No Compromise
Example of test certificates for blast, bullet and forced entry resistance.
Bullet Resistance
SÄLZER facade after the ballistic test in the highest class FB7-NS. The add-on ‚NS‘ means ‚No Splinters‘: by shelling no splinters from the whole construction fly inside the room. In case of emergency, no one would be injured by flying frag-ments.
Pressure: 357.5 kPa (3.575 bar) GSA Level 2. The larger the area which the explosion acts, the higher the load on the facade.
Forced Entry Resistance
Material may react differently under extreme loads than
calculated. Because of this fact SÄLZER tested the
facade consistently in open range tests in real conditions.
We tested a variety of:
facade constructions such as single and multiple fa-
cades
different wall connections
integrated elements: windows, doors, panel fillings in
different designs
various charges such as 100, 200, 500 kg
charges blasted in different stand-offs such as 15 m
up to a pressure of 357,5 kPA (3.575 bar)
SÄLZER recommends only the use of fully tested facade
constructions. Partial solutions, such as the attachment
of foils at the glazing on unsecured facade construction
offers no real protection. During an explosion pressure of
hundreds of tons affect on the facade, therefore the
whole facade have to be constructed blast resistant. This
includes e.g. profiles, glazing, class inset and wall con-
nection. The correct installation is also very important.
Due the outstanding test results obtained SÄLZER fa-
cades are classified according to GSA-TSO1-2003 in
GSA-Level 2 (no splinters). In the event of an emer-
gency, no splinters fly into the room and injure humans or
valued possessions.

The test by the examiner of the test institute with massive tools like angle grinder and axe on their resistance.
PfB Rosenheim: certified quality control for forced entry resistant windows, facades and doors by PfB test institute.
In addition to the material loss, a burglary is always an
invasion in the privacy. This could cause psychological
distress and the sense of security could be lost. With the
tested and certified facades from SÄLZER you always
“are on the safe side“.
They were tested according to the European Standard
1627-1630 up to resistance class RC5. In this resistant
level the facade was tested with massive tools such as
an axe, crowbar, hammer and power tools (drill and an-
gle grinder). It is necessary that the glazing is attacked
using the same tools as the rest of the facade compo-
nents.
Additionally all SÄLZER forced entry resistance compo-
nents are quality controlled by an independent institute
and are recommended by the Police Crime Prevention
Commission of Germany.
