Greetings! Greetings! The Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce eagerly invites you to come and explore the great qualities of Fremont. We are a hidden gem that we don’t want to hide! While most famously known for Spring fishing, the Wolf River is fast becoming a destination for recreational boaters and families. Summers are rich with warms days, live entertainment and amazing sunsets. Fall and Winter greet UTVs with road access and snowmobilers with access to three counties of trails. With so many great lodging and dining options, we assure there is something for everyone! Please use this as a guide and make our town your adventure! Whether you stay on the river or hop in the car to go explore, we hope the fun you have and memories you make will bring you back for more.

One of the outstanding gifts of the Fre-mont and Wolf River region is the fabulous boating opportunities. No matter your choice of watercraft, from a kayak, small fishing boat, cruiser, pontoon or house-boat, you can have a wonderful, safe, fun day, in part because of the efforts of the Tri-County Powerboat Alliance (TCPA) vol-unteers. No other community on the Wolf River offers boaters the diversity of Fre-mont, there is sandbars, plenty of places to dock, enjoy a meal, entertainment and the camaraderie of the waterfront.

Upcoming events this year is the Tri-County Powerboat Alliance, “Free Public Informational Forum” with Waupaca and Winnebago County Sheriff Water Patrols, state DNR and US Coast Guard participa-tion. This was well attended in 2017 and offers an opportunity to ask questions, understand waterway law enforcement and learn about areas of concern for boating safety. Public is welcome to this free event Saturday, April 25th, held at Pier 5 Fremont, 11 AM-1 PM, with light

snacks provided along with raffle items. Celebrating our 28th year, the 100

member strong TCPA is a non-profit or-ganization dedicated to the Wolf River from New London to Lake Winnebago working, playing and living here, honored to be guardians of accessibility, safety and navigability for equitable use by all recreational stakeholders. The alliance regularly supports safe boater education classes, organizes river clean-up projects, provides signs and other navigational

aids, also sponsoring informational meet-ings and funds for dredging projects.

Working closely with state and local government officials to protect the water-way and its natural resources has brought infinite value to the Fremont boating community. TCPA also contributes to local fire departments for water rescue equipment, riprap shoreline erosion con-trols, fish and wildlife protection areas as part of the good citizen policies, among many other guiding principles to ensure the river as a resource.

If you are passionate about living the dream here on the Wolf River, come join the Tri-County Powerboat Alliance, only $20 annually; please contact

“There is no power for change great-er than a community discovering what it cares about.” – Margaret J. Wheatley

The property originally known as Slip Knot, previously known as Channel Cats, will been reborn by the Friends of Fremont. After nearly three years of vacancy, the lonely building went up for auction. One Fremont resident saw an opportunity to bring life back to the building, but more importantly, the community.

Within ten days of the auction, this inspired visionary rallied the support of a small group of investors and Friends of Fremont was formed. This new coali-tion had the winning bid on that warm August day in 2018.

Throughout much of 2019, it may have appeared to an outsider that Friends of Fremont had fallen to the same plight as previous owners. Aside from an equipment action to remove the buildings fixture and appliances,

very little visible activity on the build-ing occurred.

However, those involved in the proj-ect have spent the last year meeting with engineers, community revital-ization specialists, environmentalist, etc. The group opted for considerate diligence over hasty delivery. The core mission: to create an indoor/outdoor multi-use space for both the commu-nity and visitors to enjoy.

It was not only the colors of the leaves that began changing in Fremont. To the excitement of most and the sur-prise of some, deconstruction of the south end of the building is set to begin in Fall 2019.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONEThe building was carefully assessed

to optimize usability. The large ban-quet room, on the north end was pre-served with a sizable catering kitchen added. The space indoors and the adja-cent outdoor patio is available to rent

for any occasion, large or small. Two small storefronts bookcase

bathrooms and showers available to transit boaters. The docks will be open to the public on a first come, first serve basis but reservations are required for overnight stays. The new outdoor space will warmly welcomes locals and visitors alike at the entrance of downtown Fremont. With charm and function, the Friends of Fremont, envi-sioned the community enjoying family picnics, farmers markets, holidays festi-vals, and much more.

The village of Fremont, Wisconsin although only 20 miles from Appleton, feels like it’s a million miles from the grind of daily life. The clean air and fun-loving lifestyle has an affect on all who visit. You may find yourself breathing a little deeper, smiling a little bigger, your shoulders relaxing a little lower and catch yourself laughing a whole lot loud-er when enjoying this community sur-rounding the beautiful Wolf River. The hard-working people of Fremont know how to let go once their chores are done and they would love to share their home-town with you.

Whether you thrive in and on the water or prefer good old terra firma, we have a place for all ages to fit right in. For the more local traveler, day trips to Fremont are a must. To make a weekend of it, there are plenty of dock slips avail-able for overnight mooring if you travel by water. Motel rooms are available for one or more night stays for those who come on wheels. Your trip to get to Fre-mont should be considered a vacation in itself. With more than 100 miles of river to explore and beautiful back coun-try roads which meander along with the Wolf River, you’ll be in a “Fremont State of Mind” long before you arrive.

For the seafarers, Fremont has long been known as the “White Bass Capi-tol of the World” for which it definitely earns its name however, we’ve become so much more than a spring angler’s des-tination. Our summer fishing, fall runs and even ice fishing remains underrated. With the substantial Wolf River, adjoin-ing Partridge Lake and many calm back-water bayous, we have a vast expanse of habitat for many species of marine life. Walleye, northern pike, crappie, perch, blue gill, bass, and catfish are abundant if you know the how-to’s of these fish. Our local bait shops and fishing guides

are willing to let you in on their secrets to help you reach your daily limit. Sev-eral businesses in Fremont rent fishing boats and pontoon boats for those with-out one and even houseboats for those who would venture to experience the river from a whole new perspective! The recreational boaters have discovered the lower Wolf River system to be a gem to behold. The shoreline and its surround-ings change drastically from the marshy, natural vegetation filled with geese, terns and seagulls near Lake Poygan to the lively and bustling downtown of Fre-mont then back to quiet nature of eagles, egrets, blue and green heron and white tail deer north of Partridge Lake towards New London.

No boat? No problem! Who needs 250 horsepower when you can travel by man-power. One of the best ways to see nature in its glory is with a kayak or paddleboard. If you don’t own one, many places in town rent them hourly. Or grab your friends and go on a tub-ing trip. I guarantee you’ll want to do it again. Put down your phone and come see its beauty for yourself, pictures never do it justice.

The Landlubber in you can do as much or as little as you want to in this best-kept-secret little village. The history of Fremont comes alive at the Fremont Area Historical Society. Learn about the logging and steamboats that traveled this river to make our community what it is today as well as a few famous legends! Unique shops, golf courses, parks with

playgrounds and picnic areas welcome guests of all ages. And don’t forget our local cheese factories! Fresh curds right out of the vat? Oh my!

Our award winning waterski show will amaze you twice a week. We have several beaches in the Fremont area, the largest is on Wolf River Drive at Partridge Lake with a roped off swim area, picnic tables and restrooms. Other hidden beaches are along the shores of the river and only accessible by boat. Grab a fa-vorite book at our library and enjoy the sounds of the water lapping at the shore and the birds as they soar past you while you read of far-away places.

You’ll never go hungry in the Fremont area! We have a plethora of dining op-tions, many of them on the waterfront, from fun and feisty to quaint and quiet and everything in between. Fremont aims to please. Hearty breakfasts, deli-cious lunches and a burger to gourmet dinners are on the menu in this town. Don’t forget our local ice cream parlor for a treat! And drinks are always flow-ing here…

Lodging in Fremont is as varied as its guests. Multiple campgrounds welcome RV’s, pop-ups and tents. If you’re look-ing more for the comforts of home, how about a cute waterfront cottage? They are available in many sizes and locations along the river. Several resorts even have a bar & restaurant right on site so you are only steps away from your cabin. Motel rooms and condos are available also. Just ask and we’ll find what fits you best.

With our calendar of community events and festivals growing more every year, you’ll never be bored. Whether you stay for a day, a week, or decided to move here permanently, like so many do, welcome to Fremont. We’re glad you’re here.

why is There a yeTisiTTing aT Pine grove?

BY ANDY PARRY

Most Fremont households have hunting stories that are passed down from generation to generation. My family is a little different. This is the story I grew up with…

The year was 1968. A group of 12 local hunters were making a deer drive through the Deltox Marsh.

Dick Bleier, Bill Mallo and my fa-ther, Bob “Jeep” Parry were the far-thest to the left of the line when they noticed something standing across the field. Due to its upright human-like qualities, they did not shoot. They described it as dark and hairy. A bare face and barrel-like torso, long legs and even longer arms.

The mysterious creature flanked them for nearly an hour stopping in its path every time they did. It ulti-

mately walked into a dense thicket and disappeared.

An Oshkosh newspaper picked up the story which sparked national at-tention. The Science Editor of a na-tion-wide magazine and his partner, a Doctor of Zoology from Paris came to Fremont to investigate. After an unsuccessful Yeti hunt and thorough questioning of my Dad’s group, as well as other witnesses of subsequent sighting over the next few weeks, the Doctors were convinced the creature was not a hoax…

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the sighting, one of the hunters, Bill Mallo, my uncle, carved the Yeti statue in the likeness of what he saw that day. He brought his creature to my resort to keep this legend alive for future generations.
