John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends
Junior Chapel, 10am, School Uniform
I watched a video over half term. Unlike most Hollywood productions it was short, sweet and verymuch to the point. It had no gloss or glamour, and its total cast list was no more than 6, but what itlacked in production technique, lighting and ambience, it made up for in sheer life experience.
It starred a year 7 pupil, on a trampoline, ably supported by a Teaching Assistant and a number oftheir peers who stood around the trampoline, arms held out ready to catch. The concentration on theface of the person on the trampoline was intense; focus, determination and concentration all shonethrough. Their initial bounce was hesitant and unsure but as their confidence grew with each bounce, they elevated higher and eventually after 2-3 bounces that moment arrived..........the decision to go forthe seat drop.........legs extended, hands by their side, ready to push back off the bed of thetrampoline, back to the standing position. As you watch you can sense the tension and expectation

around the trampoline, with those in attendance you watch, almost holding your breath, willing theperson on the trampoline to complete the manoeuvre.
Almost in slow motion they sit, and then stand back to their feet. The Teaching Assistant in thebackground clasps her hands and claps in delight, her face a beaming smile. The pupils around theedge clap in support, one punches the air, and their faces break into spontaneous smiles as well.
One moment in a PE lesson, made all the more remarkable by the fact that the person on thetrampoline suffers from a condition that means he is unsteady on his feet, and finds physical activitydifficult. The video came with a subject title in the email of “never give up” it showed a young manwho is a real example to us all that Aiming Higher is not about being the best....but being the best thatyou can be. But what really struck me most was, not the fact that he did it (although that nearlybrought me to tears) but, the genuine appreciation from others around him that one of their peers hadovercome and conquered a difficult thing and the essence of that shared joy.
It was a great moment to capture and in 11 seconds of recording sums up what I love about myschool.
What will you do this weekend that will move you out of your comfort zone?
