Our history and Our Money July is a great time to look around and see how our founding fathers and other influential people in our nation’s history are still celebrated and recognized for all they did for our country. One easy way is to look at our paper currency and coins. Here are some faces you might see: George Washington - $ 1 bill Thomas Jefferson - $ 2 bill Abraham Lincoln - $ 5 bill Alexander Hamilton - $ 10 bill Andrew Jackson - $ 20 bill Ulysses S. Grant - $ 50 bill Benjamin Franklin - $ 100 bill Abraham Lincoln - Penny Thomas Jefferson - Nickel Franklin D. Roosevelt - Dime George Washington - Quarter John F. Kennedy - Half-Dollar Sacagawea - Dollar Who else was pictured on our money? Although these bills are no longer in circulation, these historical figures were recognized by being featured on the following bills: Martha Washington - $ 1 silver certificate William McKinley - $ 500 bill Grover Cleveland - $ 1,000 bill James Madison - $ 5,000 bill Salmon P. Chase - $ 10,000 bill Woodrow Wilson - $ 100,000 bill How did they get there? The Secretary of the Treasury selects who is featured. Our bills have had the same faces since 1929, when a special treasury committee selected them due to their “permanent familiarity in the minds of the public,” according to the US Department of the Treasury. While most of the faces are men, there are some influential women that have graced our currency. Sacagawea, a Native American guide to the Lewis and Clark expedition, is on the dollar coin that is still in circulation. Susan B. Anthony, who played a vital role in the woman’s suffrage movement, was also featured on the dollar coin, which is still legal tender but mostly a collectible now. Plus, Martha Washington, our nation’s first First Lady, is the only woman whose portrait appeared on paper currency. Many more faces have graced our currency over the years through special releases and as collectibles. While not in circulation, if you find one, try taking it to a coin collector and see if it’s worth anything. DIY Strawberry frozen yogurtIn just 5 minutes, you can enjoy a cool summer treat without waiting in line at the ice cream shop!

Ingredients:

4 cups frozen strawberries 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt

3 tablespoons honey 1 tablespoon lime juice

Directions:

1. Put everything into a blender and blend until smooth. enjoy!

(Note: If you have an older blender, use fresh strawberries, add extra liquid and freeze until desired consistency.)
