Al-Hijra Scores Big on Two Fronts! It is with great honour and humility that we congratulate Al-Hijra Academy for receiving the GPU International Muslims Schools’ Award1 2013 for North America in the Primary School category.

Sheikh Abdullah Hammoud did the honours of attending the GPU International conference in London, England and accepted the award on behalf of the school, on November 23 and 24. It was attended by many thousands of people from all over the world. Al-Hijra Academy was among the only two schools in North America recognized for the international award. Furthermore, based on EQAO results, the Fraser Institute2 has ranked Al-Hijra Academy 3rd amongst all the schools in Windsor, and10th (absolute scale) in Ontario. The WIC recognized both Al-Hijra and An-Noor schools on Saturday, February 22 at the WIC Awards Ceremony at Windsor Mosque gym. Beautiful plaques from the WIC were awarded to each school. It was also a pleasant surprise to be recognized by Windsor West MPP Teresa Piruzza who gave each school a scroll of recognition. Again, may Allah SWT bless all the efforts of those who work and have worked in bring Al-Hijra Academy to this level of prestige and recognition from amongst the best Islamic schools around the world. All praise be to Allah. Congratulations, Al-Hijra Academy!

Events at Al-Hijra!

What is Grade 4 Up To? February has been an eventful and busy

month for the Grade 4 class. The Grade 4’s participated in the Quran Competition and Ceremony and mashaAllah the students did very well. The students also participated in the exciting Carnival D’hiver this month. They were able to experience the Winter Carnival, the biggest winter carnival in the world that occurs in Quebec, and we were able to recreate a piece of Quebec City right in the Al-Hijra Grade 4 classroom.

The students created wonderful ice sculptures, played games in French, tasted French treats, as well as watched some of the Olympic games! The Grade 4’s also had their successful bake sale this month and provided so many delicious baked goods to serve everyone’s sweet tooth. Alhamdulillah it was a great success!

This year provided a lot of thrilling firsts for the Grade 4’s; it was their first year in the Speech Competition, their first year participating in the Spelling Bee, and their first year entering the science fair. Alhamdulillah the students are well prepared to face these new experiences and are very excited to be joining the science fair next month. There has been a wealth of stimulating experiences and the students Alhamdulillah have been excelling in these activities and Insha’Allah the progress will always increase. That was a glimpse of the exciting events in the wonderful world of our Grade 4 classroom, and we look forward to many more exciting events to come Insha’Allah.
