Lockheed Martin F-35 JSF Electronic & Mate Assembly System

•The assembly of the first F-35 aircraft required a massive manufacturing platform.

•The EMAS is a “tooling” system that brings the fuselage sections and wing into alignment.

•Completed, the aircraft is lifted out of the platform as an assembled unit.

• An assembly line that takes the nearly completed aircraft through

the final stages of assembly.

• Each station accommodates one aircraft, LRIP utilizes 4-5

systems, full rate will utilize 22 systems.

• Speed is continuous and fully variable from 1 inch per hour to up

to 60 inches per minute.

• A control system keeps each ALWS in line with the intended path

and prevents collision.

• A feature that forces an automatic emergency stop in case of a

control system violation.
