Headteacher’s update
Dear parents/carers,
We have certainly ended the term in style this week with a wide array of events and
visitors celebrating our broad and varied curriculum at school!
On Monday we were visited by Lucy Davis, a representative from Fr Hudson’s, who
described to us the many different groups of people who benefit from our Lenten fundrais-
ing – including the elderly, homeless and children in our community. Thank you to all of
you who have already donated so generously through your Fr Hudson’s charity boxes. If
you would like to return your box to school and haven’t already done so, the deadline is
Friday 28th April.
We were thrilled to be visited by Maria Pavlidou from Birmingham University on Monday
evening for our science family learning evening aimed at year 4 children. Aspiring scientists
from Bidford Primary School, St Thomas More, St Nicholas and Astwood Bank joined us for
a fascinating insight into the wonders of our solar system and beyond!
The sun shone for our final ‘Dads and Lads/Lasses’ session on Tuesday as year 2 and their
families enjoyed the wide range of fun and interactive outdoor activities on offer. The
feedback given really does serve to highlight the value of opportunities such as this.
On Wednesday morning we were joined by Astwood Bank, Tardebigge, St George’s and
Oakhill as we hosted the ‘First Schools Music Festival’. It was an incredible celebration of
musical talent as each school had the opportunity to perform, including a guest appear-
ance from Trinity High students, and to learn new songs (accompanied by Mr Skelton on
the drums!). The resultant sound nearly blew the hall roof off!
Our year 1 children had a brilliant time as they journeyed back in time to 1666 through
their ‘Great Fire of London’ drama workshop on Thursday. We also took the opportunity to
display their fantastic homework projects depicting this significant time in history.
Nazareth house enjoyed their praise point success this half term with their healthy
mocktail party on Thursday morning – they were very inventive with their fruit and
vegetable combinations! Well done Nazareth!
Thank you also to the PFA for organising Cinema Club for years 1-4 on Thursday evening –
the children thoroughly enjoyed their end of term treat.
Today we concluded our busy week by focusing in on the events of Holy Week. We started
with a whole school mass to celebrate Palm Sunday which began joyously with our Early
Years children processing in with their palm leaves. This was followed by our year 4
children leading us along Jesus’ final journey in our school grounds through their poignant
and moving dramatisation of the Stations of the Cross.
May I wish you, on behalf of all the children and staff of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a
joyful and peace-filled Easter.
