Students at Slackwood Elementary School, their families and the community at large now can benefit from permanent outdoor exercise equipment that was provided through a grant from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation.

Students are being taught the importance of daily exercise and healthy food choices. The program against childhood obesity launched in September with a “Jump with Jill” concert by Jill Jayne, rock star nutritionist. This is just one of the grants funded by LTEF in 2011-2012 that is creating an excep-tional learning experience for LTPS students and their families.

Lawrence Township Educa-tion Foundation is a local, independent, not-for-profit organization devoted to enhancing educational oppor-tunities for all of the town’s public school students. We receive donations from individuals like you, grants from outside foundations, corporations with interests in our region, and the special generosity of ETS and The

Lawrenceville School. Since 1992, LTEF has supported nearly 500 grants to the school district.

The programs we fund touch every student in every school in the district every year. We believe that every day should be an exceptional experience that fosters educational excellence, creativity and achievement for Lawrence’s public school children.

Donations from Lawrence residents are a core reason for LTEF’s 20-year history which has generated over $2.4 million to support Lawrence Township Public Schools. Yet every year, we must turn down many worthwhile grant applications from

District teachers because of limited available funding. You can change this through your donation to LTEF.

ROBOTICS FOR THE 21ST CENTURYThe District’s robotics program helps position our students for success in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers. Robotics education is proven to enhance students’ critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, collaboration, digital media literacy and other skills. Thanks to funding from LTEF, students in LHS’s Academy of Science and Technology (also initiated by LTEF funding!) can continue their pursuit of excellence in this field. The high school robotics grant follows similar LTEF-funded programs at the LIS and LMS, creating a path to success that incorporates increasingly sophisticated tools and capabilities at each grade level.

S.N.A.P. FOR JOYStudents at Ben Franklin Elementary School are snapping for joy over their new Science, Nature, Arts and Pondering (S.N.A.P.) space funded by supporters of Lawrence Township Educational Foundation. The S.N.A.P. space is a flexible, adaptive, outdoor classroom and learning space where all students can explore, observe, reflect and learn with a focus on science, nature, and arts. The students work outdoors and witness their garden as it grows and changes with each season. Students may be seen reading, listening, observing, problem solving, journaling, drawing, and painting in their new space. The area is also available for presentations and other events by community organizations.

During the 2011-2012 school year your donations funded 31 grants, totaling more than $150,000, to benefit students in Lawrence Township public schools.Donations were received from more than 500 individuals, companies, institutions and foundations, including 93 faculty and staff in the district.

LET’S MAKE MUSICLawrence Middle School‘s percussion ensemble is making beautiful music with a new set of orchestral chimes, bell tree and concert tom drums with stand, all funded by the Lawrence Township Education Foundation. The District‘s music program is one of the nation’s top 100 for music education. LMS students now have a well-rounded collection of instruments to play nearly any percussion ensemble piece. Watch for announcements of upcoming LMS concerts to hear the LMS Percussion Ensemble play.

SEE IT ON “SNIPPETS”Students at every Lawrence Township public school now can record, edit and broadcast live video in their buildings, and via the District’s website and TV channels, thanks to equipment and training funded by LTEF.
