IntroductionSpeed, excitement, danger. You can find all these in the various extreme sports, which have become popular in the last ten years or so. Take bungee jumping. You jump off a bridge. When you hit the ground or water, a rope pulls you back. In sky surfing you jump out of an airplane and use a board to “surf” the air. Snowboarding, which has all the excitement of surfing but on snow, is more dangerous even than skiing. Probably the most dangerous of all the new winter sports is snowrafting. You sit in a rubber boat and sail down a mountain at great speed. In whitewater rafting you sit in a small raft and go down a river at great speed. Then there is ice diving. You put on diving equipment and dive under a frozen lake. So, extreme sports appear just as crazy.

Role Play

In this part, you are required to act as a role and complete three communicative tasks: listen to the conversation, ask three questions and then answer six questions.

Ask Three Questions

1. 卡罗尔,你从事什么类型的极限运动?

2. 你为什么喜欢蹦极?

3. 卡罗尔,有没有你不尝试的运动?

Answer Six Questions

1. Carol, what sort of extreme sports do you do?

2. Why do you like bungee jumping?

3. Carol, are there any sports you wouldn’t try?

4. Jonathan, what extreme sports do you do?

5. What other sports would you like to try, Jonathan?

6. Jonathan, are there any sports you wouldn’t like to try?

I do bungee jumping.

Because I get nervous. When I’m jumping I feel it’s like being a bird.

Yes, there are snowrafting, dull sports and boring sports I wouldn’t try.I like winter sports, like skiing and snowboarding.

I’d quite like to go ice diving.

Yes, I’d hate to do bungee jumping because I can’t stand heights.
