interesting things were happening...

You look for a name and you
understand it's a mirror.
-Vietnam War Memorial-
I never made any special thought related to theday I was born. But then, once, I went to
Washington D.C. to see the Vietnam War
Memorial. Since the names are placed upon a
chronological order, I was curious to see the
people who died on the day I was born. To readthese names and to think that in the same day I
was born they finished their lives, it impressed me
quite a lot. Not to mention the sheer beauty and
power of the memorial itself, one of the most
impressive places I've ever been in my whole life.

Miao Magazine
Miao Magazine is one of the best magazine I've
ever read in my whole life. Without words, onlyimages + hundreds of different activities to do.
Very fantastic! Unfortunately, this fact that you
were supposed to cut, glue, do all kind of things,
it makes very difficult to find old copies. : (

A Woman Spraying DDT
on a Window
When I was a child, I used to go to my
grandparents for the summer holiday. They lived
in southern Italy, quite different from Turin, in the
north. My grand-mother she had an obsession onflies. Everyday she would spend an incredible
amount of energy to fight flies. DDTwas her
weapon. Anwway I was never allowed to spray.
Only to watch. And to smell (DDT had an
incredibly peculiar smell). I never understood thehidden reasons of this holy war. Anyway, it was a
great fun.

I really don't know why my grandmother had this
DDT obsession. It was not related to her age (my
other grandmother didn't mind flies and insects so
much). I think it had to do with the Americans
arriving to her village in 1944. I wish i would haveasked more...

Felice Gimondi
By then (I was in grade school), I really liked Felice
Gimondi. He was the most power Italian cyclist.
Another thing really impressive was this fact of
being himself a superhero, in a world where therewas a more powerful one (Eddy Merckx).
This idea where you are a superhero but finally
you lose because there is another stronger one,
really caught on my imagination.
I remember once I read an interview to Gimondi,
and the journalist asked him if he suffered
because of the presence of Eddy Merckx. He
replied: "Not all. It was the two of you, not myselfor himself. If I would have been alone, it would
have been nothing. I was existing because of this
rivalry."

Easter Island
Very Impressive Story
-by Rapa Nui-
I remember quite well the day when my grade
school teacher explained to us the whole story
about the stone heads in the Easter Island. Rapa
Nui, those people cutting off all the trees theyhad. I was only in fifth grade but I remember
everything she said about this place and those
curious people living there.
Never been there, but life is long...
Very nice, indeed!

I was given an old bicycle by grandfather. I was 11or so. The bike was ok, but it was old and rusty.
So, I took it to the courtyard, and I dismantled it
in order to paint it properly.

Second, go to buy some paint.
Third paint.

-Dave Theurer-
Yes. Once I arrived to point 4 (re-assemble it), I
knew I would have never been able to put it back
together.
I tried. I did what I thought it was my best. But,
finally, I wasn't able.
The bike remained in the courtyard for some
weeks, then some person trashed the whole thing
(much to my relief).
This is the story of my first and only bicycle. After
that experience I never had another bike and I
never dismantled complex things.

Sottsass Goes Gas (station)
-Sottsass Associati-
I remember it was in the early '90's. I was a
student of architecture and I was really passionate
about gas stations. Those Erg gas stations, with the odd look, already
caught my attention.
Then one day I bought this big black book on
Ettore Sottsass (in my mind he was a designer andsince I was a student of architecture he was
outside my interests) and it was enlightening.
Between the others there were the Erg things.
Some fifteen years later, once I was chitchattingwith Gianluigi Mutti and he told me that in
Sottsass Associati he was the one in charge of the
Erg project and to him it was a total nightmare (he
had to design and check thousand gas stations all
around the country).

On-line there is close to nothing. He did a

few years later he founded (with Aida Takefumi,

concrete submarine appeared. It was very strange. Some days later I went back during the day and I
was able to climb up all the way, till the rooftop.
Quite a surreal and strange setting.

sometime to find who was the author. This is oneof my favorite buildings in Tokyo. Although

Antro Della Sibilla Cumana
One of the nice things of having to do a museum in
Naples is that you have to go to Naples quite
often. Every time we go, I try to get to stay somemore so that I can go to see things around. This
time, my friend Giuseppe Vele took me to explore
the magic (underground) world of the Sibyl in
Cuma. Upon Virgil, the gateway to the
Underworld. Very fascinating. Not Roman, notGreek, not Etruskan... An odd place impossible to
connect to other architectures or buildings you
have seen before. To find something similar (in its
concept) we have to go to Angkor Wat. Very
interesting. Here some more images: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/

Naples
-project by: mischer'traxler-
Well, this project is not exactly new. To be
precise is a project by Katharina Mischer and
Thomas Traxler, around 2008/9. I knew the
project but I never had the chance to meet the
two Viennese designers. But the Marco Petroni and
Plart organized this workshop in Naples while we
were setting up things related to Id-Lab new
interactive wing.
So we met. Very nice couple, very smart and very
charming. Their things on show at Plart were nice,
we had some nice time in chaotic Naples and
everyone enjoyed pretty much.

I don't know, I do it because i like (first and more
relevant reply).
At the same time, there is a thought about how
you travel in the digital age.
Traditionally, architects and designers traveled a
lot with their sketchbook.
This is nice, and this I did.
But then, I asked myself, how do you travel in the
fb age?
This I don't know, this is an experiment.

experience. Each artist programed an image
creating application that interpreted and
visualised data from various sources. Every
application runs through an auto-generative
printing program which generates and compiles
high resolution complex and never to be repeated
images. To produce the book Written Images, the
programs and pictures are now hung in a software
command chain. These programs visualize internet
data-streams or display self-generated content.
They are able to save continuously changing
images on demand. A specially-designed
application controls the image-generating
programs that each produce four-page speads in
the book, and produce On demand an individual
book. Each resulting Book (450 pages) is therefore
unique". More on this project at: http://www.

Glitch Porn (literally not
figuratively)
Wikipedia defines a glitch as: "...a short-lived fault
in a system. It is often used to describe a transient
fault that corrects itself, and is therefore difficult
to troubleshoot. The term is particularly common
in the computing and electronics industries, and incircuit bending, as well as among players of video
games, although it is applied to all types of
systems including human organizations and
nature".

Prezzemolo (Parsley)
Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that
resonates with inspiration or fuels your
imagination. Devour old films, new films, music,
books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams,
random conversations, architecture, bridges,
street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light
and shadows. Select only things to steal from that
speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your
work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is
invaluable; originality is non-existent. And dont
bother concealing your thieverycelebrate it if
you feel like it. In any case, always remember

and try to be alwasy there, we say he is like
"prezzemolo" (parsley: in cooking you can use it at

In the recent years, Bruno Munari became the
parsley of Italian design. If you don't know what
exhibition to do, if you don't know which book to
publish or which author to quote... ...you go for
Munari and everyone is happy.
Munari is everywhere, he is understood as a guru,
while he was not (and the overall of his career
although interesting does not make him as
important as he is felt now).
Regardless of all of this, the other day I've found
an old book of him, "Design as Art" (kind of
concept I really hate), I went through it and there
was a collectionof faces I really loved. Here are
Munari's faces: http://www.facebook.

And here is the link to his "Design as Art" book.
A very nice book, although design is not art and
art is not design and because this very simple fact
never understood by Munari, this is why finally, he

Digital Sandwich and Other
(interesting) Stories
In the past I had the chance to meet Paolo Rosselli
several times in different social events. But then,
for anumber of various reasons, wenever reallytalked each other. Then. one day Pierluigi
Anselmo Anselmi Anselli(who worked with him for
a very long time), explained to me a lot things
about his peculiar way to understand and practice
photography. Basically Rosselli says somethinglike: "There is no more distinction between
subject and background. Digital photo finished the
idea of photography as ordered and hierarchically
organized view". Photoshop based post-production
becomes a fundamental step in the process. Eachlayer of the image gets its own specific treatment,
generating a completely new image. Here above, a
detail of a picture he took in Tokyo in 2007. More

A Desk Who Gets Old and

Probably the form factor ain't best. But the
concept is nice. Love Hultn made this Senescent
Desk. A quick description from Design Milk zine: "Aproject about natural change without maintenance
and a story about interaction. The Senescent Desk
is basically a self-sufficient gardening system
based on a water-tank, mist makers, two fans, a
growth substrate material made from recycledplastic and a digital time. The idea is that over
time, the vegetation will flourish and (hopefully)
eventually attack the artifact without the need
of human interaction". More at: http://www.

Apple 1
Los Altos, CA, United States
The original Apple Computer, also known
retroactively as the Apple I, or Apple-1, is a
personal computer released by the Apple
Computer Company (now Apple Inc.) in 1976. They
were designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak.
Wozniak's friend Steve Jobs had the idea of selling
the computer. The Apple I was Apple's first
product, and to finance its creation, Jobs sold his
only means of transportation, a VW van. It wasdemonstrated in April 1976 at the Homebrew
Computer Club in Palo Alto, California.
The Apple I went on sale in July 1976 at a price of
US$666.66, because Wozniak "liked repeatingdigits" and because they originally sold it to a local
shop for $500 plus a one-third markup. About 200
units were produced. Unlike other hobbyist
computers of its day, which were sold as

board containing about 60+ chips.
However, to make a working computer, users still
had to add a case, power supply transformers,
power switch, ASCII keyboard, and composite

cassette interface for storage was later released
at a cost of $75.

Some More Landscape...
-Giorgione, The Tempest, ca. 1508-
On the right a woman sits, suckling a baby. She
could be a gypsy, or to some people's eyes a
prostitute. Her pose is unusual - normally the baby
would be held on the mother's lap; but in this case
the baby is positioned at the side of the mother,so as to expose her pubic area. This appears to
signal that the mother's realm is the everyday
rather than the sacred.
A man, possibly a soldier, holding a long staff orpike, stands in contrapposto on the left. He smiles
and glances to the right, but does not appear to be
looking at the woman. Art historians have
identified the man alternatively as a soldier, a
shepherd, a gypsy, or a member of a club ofunmarried men.
X-rays of the painting have revealed that in the
place of the man, Giorgione originally painted
another female nude. To some, he represents

steadfastness; they point to the pillars behind
him, which often symbolize force or strength.
These pillars, however, are brokena classic
symbol of death. One may also note the stork on
the rooftop on the right. Storks sometimes
represent the love of parents for their children.

abstract figures that people can feel in their daily
routine are expressed as art particularly in
drawings and how I illustrated them in my
drawings"
"With a historical consideration of metaphysical
expressions in drawings, the research aims at
finding that its subjects have been an incantation,
religion, eternity, rank, divinity, subjective
emotion, and abstract from the primitive age to
the present, and proving the metaphysical
expressions of mine by pseudo-scientific method
on the basis of the previous metaphysics.
However, the desire to scientifically express
metaphysical awareness eventually becomes mock
science at the scientific point of view. This is
rather the drawing combined with individual and
scientific theories. It looks very dry and scientific
but its inner world exceptionally contains authors
own emotional and footloose imagination. Mental
world that cannot be scientifically demonstrated is
ultimately proved as pseudo-scientific way
combined with irrational opinions, and its pseudo-
scientific evidence makes another drawings. The
collision derived from science and art forms a
different dimensional metaphysical abstract
drawing"

There are things I never do.

One of them is going to theatre.
Not that I don't like theater, simply, it doesn't
happen.
So I was very happy the other day when Alessandro
Scandurra invited me to go to watch "Lucido", a
play written by Rafael Spregelburd.
It was a special thing for a number of reasons. The
first one is that this Spregelburd although not
superfamous is a very important chap from
Argentina, a guarantee going-to-be-star (I like
when I get to know/cross stars and their thingsbefore they reach the star-ness condition).
Next is this fact that the "Lucido" show was set in
Milan by Milena Costanzo and Roberto Rustioni.
Two excellent actors and cultural activist. Finally,

the place where all of this happened: the Pini
madhouse in Milanese outskirts.
A very special night. The play was excellent, the
dinner after the play even more. There were the
actors, mr Spregelburd, Alessandro (not to forget
the mental patients running the restaurant) + a lot
of other things too long to be listed here.
Thanxthanxthanx to Milena and Alessandro and all
the other nice people

The other nice thing of going to watch this
"Lucido" play (set it up by Milena Costanzo and
Roberto Rustioni on Rafael Spregelburd text), is
this fact that mr Spregelburd flew all the way from
Buenos Aires to come to watch it.
This I like.
He was asked by fanciful Ronconi to have his stuff
for the important theatre, but he nixed him
because he liked Milena and Roberto better.
He loved the idea to have his play set by an
indipendent production, on show in a madhouse
(not to mention that all the important critics had
to move their asses from Rome and come to this
odd location in the middle of nowhere, with the
mentally ill patient running the little theater, the
restaurant end everything else).
Very unusual, very special, very nice and very one
of those things that make in some extent worth
living on this planet.

and Roberto explaining their work: http://www.

This morning I was waiting for my friends at the
station.
They were some ten, fifteen minutes late and I
was looking at the people passing by. It was 8.30
am, rush hour.
One thing that I noticed is that most of people
dress in black or very dark color (at least in Milan).
Let's say that people's figures have two parts
(upper and lower). Average, out of twenty people
passing by, about 15 are completely black or dark,
let's say two are dressed in white (full or half), one
or two have one half colored, and 1 is
