Architecture as an art effect comprises the

following components:1) the spatial envelope or skin which, by its closings off and openings, opacities and

    transparencies defines

    2) internal space, whose attributes are determined by the nature of the skin (light,

sounds, temperature, smells, diverse possibilities of movement and visibility),

    distinguished from

    3) the external space to which internal space relates according to the attributes of the

    skin (any orifices or transparencies).

Various solutions articulate internal and external

space by means of the skin

    1) closing / opening to the movement of people

(relates to the physical relation between places)

    2) opacity / transparency to view

(relates to visual perception of inside and outside)

Continuity and Enclosure :A place where public and private spaces are privately distinguished

Buildings that relate to a common building line reinforce and define the street.

The primary access to a building is best achieved from the street.

Often the front and rear of buildings are used in different ways their design can reflect.Clearly defining and enclosing private space at the back of buildings provides better

    privacy and security,

CharacterA place with its own identity

Consider the sites landform and character when laying out new

    development

Integrating new development in to its landscape setting reduces

its impact on nature and reinforces local distinctiveness.

The scale, massing and height of proposed development should

be considered in relation to that of adjoining building; the

topography; the general pattern of heights in the area and views,

    vistas and landmarks.

Responding to local building forms and patterns of development

in the detailed layout the design of development helps to reinforce

    a sense of place
