    Use

    Standard (non drainable)louvres. Horizontal blade

    Use in sheltered areas and wherewater entry will not damage thebuilding fabric.Also used for screen walling (withblanking plates fitted) andplantroom screens.

    SLH-S Storm louvreHorizontal blade

    SLH Storm louvre Horizontal bladeSight proof

    A superior design providing avery high level of water protectionunmatched by other single banksystems.

    For use in any location whererestricted wind driven rainpenetration is required.

    SLV and SLV-S Storm louvres Vertical blade sight proof

    Top of the range performancelouvres for use where dry roomconditions are required.Unmatched by any competitivedesign, offering superbaerodynamic and water rejectionproperties.

    SLH-S/SLH-S SLH-S/SLV-S Horizontal blade Double bank

    Probably the best horizontallouvres available of their kind.Combining excellent waterrejection with goodaerodynamics. Use in locationswhere water entry must be theminimum possible.

    Slimtype A simple glaze in louvre,suitable for use in shelteredsituations.

  • Performance Data

    Weather louvres areclassified by their ability toreject simulated rain.

    Classifications are as follows:-

    The water effectiveness isdenoted by:

    Class EffectivenessA 1 to 0.99B 0.989 to 0.95C 0.949 to 0.80D below 0.8

    ie. 0.99 effectiveness 99%water repellent efficiency.

    The aerodynamiceffectiveness is:

    Class Discharge / entryLoss coefficient

    1 0.4 and above2 0.3 to 0.3993 0.2 to 0.2994 0.199 and below

    The water penetration classletter should precede the

    coefficient of discharge classletter followed by the limitingcore velocity, eg.

    A1 up to 3.5 m/s

    The following graph details louvre efficiency comparisons(water rejection) for our storm louvres

    Materials and finishesAll louvres within the Nacorange are normallymanufactured from aluminiumextrusions. Flashings whererequired will be formed frompressed aluminium sheet.

    Powder coatedLouvre assemblies andflashings can be powdercoated matt polyester to BSand RAL colours.

    AnodisingLouvres and flashings may benatural or colour anodisedwithin commercial colourtolerances which will beagreed for each project.

    Mill finishLouvres and flashings maybe supplied in mill finish andwhile the integrity of thematerial is unaffected, thevisual appearance will beimpaired due to the naturaloxidisation process which willoccur on mill finish aluminium,therefore painting isrecommended to enhance thefinished product.

    General constructionLouvres are produced infactory assembled panels forcoupling into final assemblieson site. The normal maximumpanel size is approximately1.5m x 2.5m and horizontal orvertical louvre assemblies willnormally be supplied withinthese limitations. Largershaped or circular louvreassemblies will bemanufactured in panel sizes.SLV & SLH panels areproduced in 2m2 units forcoupling on site. Larger louvreassemblies may requireintermediate steel supportrails which would normally beprovided by the generalcontractor in consultation withour design office.

  • ExampleSize a 75 series louvre withbird wire guard which iscapable of handling 15m3/s inintake mode with a pressuredrop of not more than 25Pa.

    1.From velocity formula:

    V = Pa x Cd 21/2 p

    V = 25 x 0.2292

    0.6

    Velocity for a pressure drop of25 Pa is 1.47 m/s

    2.Volume

    = AreaFace Velocity

    15= 10.2m2

    1.47

    Therefore a louvre area of10.2m2 is required:

    Penthouse louvres should besized as 4 panels of equalheight which, when addedtogether, will give the requiredfigure.

    Free area = Duct volume m3/sm2 Duct velocity m/s

    Louvre area = Louvre free m2 area m2

    louvre free area%

    Example:

    75 series louvre(50% free area)Duct volume 15 m3/sDuct velocity 3.12 m/s

    Free area m2 = 15 = 4.81m2

    3.12

    Therefore:

    louvre area = 4.81 = 9.62m2

    m2 0.5

    Pressure lossPressure loss occurs when alouvre is inserted into anopening and may be foundfrom:

    Pa = 1/2 p x V2 2

    Cd

    p = Air density (1.2 Kg/m3 )V = Face velocity i.e.:

    Volume (m3/s) Louvre core area (m2)

    orV = Pa x Cd 2

    1/2 p

    Cd is louvre coefficient ofdischarge.

    Cd and Ce figures can, for allpractical purposes, be takenas the same.

    Tests carried out by BSRIA to the HEVAC technicalspecification now developed and published as BSEN 13030.

    Vertical blades SLV and SLV-S provide the topclassification for both aerodynamic and waterrejection effectiveness.

    So smaller areas of louvre are required or larger airvolumes can be handled without problem.

    Horizontal blade louvres offer 3 styles to cater formost conditions including a remarkably efficientsingle blade design and a very good double banksystem.

    Introduction Specification - SLV

    A new design of storm louvrebringing advanced technologyto metal louvre systems.

    Vertical blade design whichprovides exceptionalresistance to wind driven rain.

    Ideal for areas where rain isrequired to be kept out of thebuilding.

    The remarkable performanceprovided by the SLV and SLV-Slouvres is due to the carefullyresearched blade profile thisallows air to pass, but divertsand captures water particlesand prevents water ingresseven under the most extremeconditions of test.

    A major benefit for ourcustomers is cost saving: nolonger is it necessary to havedouble or triple bank systemsto prevent water ingress itcan now be achieved in asingle bank, single framestyle, and with better results.

    Vertical blades SLV and SLV-Sprovide a dramatic alternativeto the normal concept oflouvre systems. So thedesigner now has thefreedom to exploit verticaldimensions within ventilationsystems.

    SLV and SLV-S designsprovide dry room conditionsso no longer is it necessary toaccept water passing throughlouvre systems.

    Developed in the USA by ourassociate company Ruskin,these blade designs meet thehighest standards of theAMCA Wind Driven RainPenetration Test andEuropean Standard forweather louvre performance.

    Notes to performance data

    a. Pressure loss data basedon atmosphere to ductreadings [inlet mode].

    b. Velocities given are facevelocities; for jet velocities,multiply face velocity x 3.

    c. Data given based onperformance without insectscreen.

    The pressure loss tableindicates pressure dropsagainst inlet velocities up to amaximum of 3.0 m/s. Inpractice, velocities above2.0m/s are usually undesirablein dusty/sandy atmospheresas the ability of the louvre toremove airborne particlesdecreases to unacceptablelevels above this velocity.Efficiency of approximately 40 60% can be expected atvelocities of 1.5m/s,dependent on sand/dustparticle size.

    Performance data

    Designed to remove the bulkof airborne sand and dustfrom inlet air in dry, dusty orsandy climates whilstmaintaining reasonable airflowrate characteristics bymeans of a special doubleblade design.

    ST series sandtrap louvres arecapable of performing asnatural ventilators or toalleviate the load on the mainfiltration stages of airconditioning equipment.

    Sand and dust is evacuatedfrom the base of the louvre bymeans of a special sandcollection/dispersion cill,keeping maintenance to aminimum and ensuring thedesign air flow rate under allconditions.
