You’re a bank using an Oracle Sales Cloud SaaS application to see customer profile information.

Do you want to load the data into Oracle Database Cloud Service, display in an application, and then embed or link to this application from Oracle Sales Cloud?

You want to display accounts and related contacts graphically by using UI widgets different from those provided by your SaaS application.

Do you want to build the widget on an open, portable, enterprise-grade platform with powerful management and monitoring tools and then embed it in the portal?

You want a comprehensive view of a customer’s records from an enterprise that captures this information from multiple applications.

Do you want to build this UI on a fully managed platform that you never have to patch, back up, or monitor—one that’s compatible with the most popular IDEs?

Why extend your SaaS application?

There are many reasons to extend your Software as a Service (SaaS) applications in the cloud. Which platforms provide you with the service level that you need for your extension?

Open

You can deploy in the cloud any Java-based extensions or custom applications to an instantly provisioned service instance, without making any modifications. The open nature of Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension lets you use your favorite developer tools or the productivity features built into Oracle JDeveloper, Eclipse, and NetBeans.

Portable

You don’t need to limit yourself to only Oracle Cloud for your applications and extensions to take advantage of its benefits. You can seamlessly move applications between on-premises and instances of the service within Oracle Cloud. You have the flexibility to mix and match the use of on-premises environments with cloud services for development, testing, and production.

Enterprise-Grade

Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension is deployed on an enterprise-grade infrastructure to ensure high performance and availability, storage mirroring for data redundancy, and full system backup and restoration. Each service instance is built on Oracle WebLogic Server, the industry’s #1 application server across conventional and cloud environments.

Compatible with Popular IDEs

Use any of the popular IDEs—like Oracle JDeveloper, Eclipse, and NetBeans—to develop applications and extensions to your Oracle Sales Cloud, Oracle Marketing Cloud, or Oracle Service Cloud applications.

Fully Managed Infrastructure

Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension provides an environment that is fully managed by Oracle on your behalf. You don’t have to patch, back up, or monitor the environment at all. Oracle does that all for one low subscription price.

Access to Oracle Marketplace

Leverage hundreds of extensions and applications built by Oracle or Oracle partners (third-party, independent software vendors). You can deploy these extensions easily and seamlessly from the Marketplace to your Java Cloud Service.

Use powerful infrastructure and management tools. As a fully managed, Java-based application platform designed to extend the Oracle SaaS offerings, Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension provides tools that at once give you control over your application, while freeing you from time (and resource) consuming infrastructure management tasks.

Command-Line Interface (CLI)

Monitor your applications deployed on an instance. Each command initiates a job within Oracle Cloud. You can view the existing jobs for a specific Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension, the status, and any associated log files.

Sample Applications

Using the sample applications in the SDK, build your own customized samples and deploy them in an Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension instance.

Easy Whitelist Validation

Rest assured that your deployed applications are using only allowed packages by using the Whitelist tool. This tool runs tests for package compatibility on every application installed or updated on the service. You can also run it manually any time you want from the command line.

Manage your instance and applications with the powerful SDK.Enjoy smooth and effortless instance management and application development in Oracle Cloud or in your development environment running in a local Oracle WebLogic Server domain. Your Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension software development kit (SDK) makes this possible.

Protect your users, protect your applications.

Role-based security means that predefined roles and users determine who can access, deploy, and administer tasks in Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension and the applications deployed on it.

• As an administrator, you can access web-based Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension Control to manage and monitor a service instance. You can use the SDK to manage and monitor service instances.

• As a developer, you can use either embedded tooling in supported IDEs to directly interact with a service instance or the Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension SDK and Java Cloud Service - SaaS Extension Control to interact with service instances.

Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension ships with enterprise-grade security, with isolated, dedicated virtual machines running your applications or extensions. There’s no environment sharing between tenants. The fully integrated Identity Management solution provides Single Sign-On (SSO) access between your extension and your SaaS applications, including self-service user management and access control. After you enable federation in the data center where your SaaS application is running, you can enable SSO without additional developer intervention.

Revel in robust third-party framework support. While we make no claims about a specific list of third-party libraries that should work within an Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension environment, generally speaking, an application’s use of most third-party frameworks should work within the service, so long as:

• All dependencies can be embedded within the deployment archives.

• All third-party JARs and their dependencies pass the Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension whitelist validation.

Popular frameworks include specific Apache Common components, Google Web Toolkit, JQuery, and Spring. A comprehensive list of supported third-party frameworks is always available online, in the Oracle Cloud Help Center.

You can benefit from the differences. Both Oracle Java Cloud Service and Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension provide enterprise-grade platforms to help you develop and deploy business applications in the cloud. The differences lie in how you can use each service. Where Oracle Java Cloud Service supports deployment of your custom business application development, you use Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension to build extensions to existing Oracle SaaS products, such as CRM, HCM, and so on.

• Platform and Support: Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension supports standard Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5. Oracle Java Cloud Service supports standard Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 6. Both services support Oracle Application Development Framework applications.

• Management and Monitoring: Both services can be managed and monitored through their specific consoles, Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension Control and the Java Cloud Service Console (both web-based interfaces). Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension can also be controlled using a command-line interface available in the SDK. Oracle Java Cloud Service can be managed through REST APIs.

• Configuration: With Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension, you can’t access the configuration of the underlying application server, JVM, and/or operating system for any services. You can access this configuration with Oracle Java Cloud Service.

• Single Sign-On: Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension supplies ready-to-use Single Sign-On (SSO) technology. After you enable federation in the data center where your SaaS software is running, your Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension applications won’t require any changes to enable SSO capabilities.

• Deployment: With Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension, you deploy applications directly from Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension Control (a web-based console). Deploy applications for Oracle Java Cloud Service by using Fusion Middleware Control, the WebLogic Server Administration Console, WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) commands, or an IDE.

• Availability: Currently, Oracle JCS - SaaS Extension is available to customers in North America and Europe. Oracle Java Cloud Service is available from the North America data centers.
