E F S ASTERN REE TATE TEL: 058 - 3035411 WEDNESDAY 29 MAY 2013 WWW.EXPRESS-NEWS.CO.ZA FREE Mofokeng speaks out TJHETANE MOFOKENG, the executive mayor of the Dihlabeng Municipality, is expected to land in Switzerland tomorrow for the Swiss Summit of Leaders and the awards ceremony for the region’s best resort. Mofokeng was invited to the International Awards after the Europe Business Assembly (EBA) had nominated him for the best manag- er in the world. He will also represent his municipality which was nominated in the best city category. The best city and best manager nominations are in recogni- tion of the city’s reputa- tion, effective city manage- ment, constant growth and tourist attrac- tiveness. In all 30 countries will take part in the summit. The awards ceremony will be held in the La Coupole, Fairmont Le Montreux Palace on Saturday evening. Even though recent reports pointed out that the municipality had paid approximately R100 000 for the title, Clem Harrington, the member of the mayoral council (MMC) for Local Econom- ic Development in the municipal- ity, said: “Nonsense. I promoted the municipality and the mayor because I think they deserve the award. “We won’t pay that much for a piece of paper.” Harrington said they had been surprised that Roy Jankielsohn, DA caucus leader in the Free State, had been the one who had raised the issue. He said Jankielsohn was the one who had said Dihlabeng was the best municipality in the Free State. “It is also not true that the mayor will be accommodated in a five-star hotel. “I have been there and I can confirm that it is a three-star hotel,” he said. Harrington said the last time the DA leader, Helen Zille, had won the award no one had mentioned a scam, but now that it was Tjhetane’s turn, people said negative things. Mofokeng also poured cold water on the allegations that they had paid a certain amount and added that he knew they had to cater for flights and accommo- dation. He said the issue was contro- versial and that they were dealing with it. He denied that they had asked to be nominated, and added that he could not say when exactly he would be flying to Switzerland as they still had to decide this at a meeting. He said last year when Clarens had celebrated its centenary, they had invited the mayor of the Montreux Municipality in Switzerland, which also has a town called Clarens within its borders. The president of the old Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek, Paul Kruger, had died there in 1904 and therefore the Montreux Municipality had historical links with South Africa. “We agreed to have a twinning agreement where we could exchange programmes relating to education, culture and technolo- gy. “We’ll send a delegation to Switzerland and discuss the details on how we are going to take forward the twinning agreement. “It is against this background that our municipality was nominated for the development and promotion of tourism. “We have been amongst the municipalities that have been recognised for good performance particularly in the areas of tourism and community develop- ment,” he said. VUYO MBULI’S estranged wife hasaccused TV and radio presenter KuliRoberts of being among 18 women herhusbandhadcommittedadulterywith.Rumours erupted lastweek that SavitaMbuli and Morning Live presenterMbuli’s current girlfriend, knownonlyas Kim, had argued before Mbuli’s fu-neral on Friday. She’s also been ac-cused of sidelining Kim while makingfuneral arrangements. “The womanyou are talking about was among the18 girlfriends that Vuyo had,” Savitatold City Press on Saturday.

“She was not the only girlfriend.Roberts was also having an affair withmy husband, so why didn’t I fight withher or why is she not complaining thatI sidelined her?” she said.

Savita claimed she had discovered abarrage of “raunchy” SMS exchangesbetween Mbuli and Roberts. “I foundthese SMS’s on my husband’s cell-phone, but didn’t confront any of thembecause I knew where Vuyo’s heartlay. He loved me and I didn’t care be-cause I knewhewasnot a saint.Hewasjust having fun.”

Roberts laughed off the claims, say-

ing her relationship with Mbuli wasplatonic. “I have no time for attention-seeking Savita. I think she is the onewho sent me those SMS’s from his cell-phone. You know, on Saturday night Igot an SMS from him saying ‘Hello, how are you?’ And then suddenly theSMS’s stopped coming. That man wastoo old to have a relationship with me.

“I can’t even remember the last timeI saw him. I have not seen him thewhole of last year and this year.We on-ly communicated onFacebook orTwit-ter and I only did so when I needed ad-vice from him.”

The Mbulis separated about twoyears ago after Vuyo was allegedlycaught with his pants down. Savitamovedout of theirHoughtonhomeandinto a townhouse they owned in anoth-er suburb. But Savita said the pair hadbeen on the verge of reconciling andthat she had moved back into theirHoughton home in January at his re-quest.

“Vuyo and I were living togetherwith my children at the time of hisdeathbecausehewanted to fixhismar-riage. He did not want to sign divorce

papers because he loved me. He wasmyhusband, that iswhy I gavehim thefuneral that he got.”

Savita said that during the last con-versation shehadwithMbuli beforehedrove to Bloemfontein to watch rugbywith their 13-year-old son last Satur-day, he had asked her to forgive him.“He said to me ‘Uxolo, thando Forgiveme, love’.”

She denied rumours that she andKim had fought at the MediclinicBloemfontein, where Mbuli was pro-nounced dead on Saturday after suffer-ing a pulmonary embolism. “I only re-primanded the guy called Nxeba whodrove to Bloemfontein with my hus-band and son because he had disap-peared and left my son alone immedi-ately after Vuyo had collapsed. I thenconfiscated my husband’s car keysfrom him because I found what he haddone irresponsible,” she said.

Attempts to reach Kim for commentwere unsuccessful. Two independentsources told City Press she had attend-ed Mbuli’s funeral on Friday despitebeing ordered by Savita’s friends tostay away. – City Press

ALFRED MOSIA, Bohlokong, Bethle-hem:

THE Truth and ReconciliationCommission did a splendid job and weneed to thank the proponents of thisvaluable commission.

However, there are people who wouldnot like the world to forget the past andif as a people we can say we haveforgiven, to them there will be noaccolades and recognition to claimbecause their leadership is somehowlinked to this past we so much wish toforget.

To some the past cannot be forgottenbecause they were spectators licking theboots of their masters to mop the bloodof the comrades who we kicked becausethey refused to dance to the tune of themaster.

Strange enough it is these cowardswho are more vocal than the rest.People who have tasted apartheid wantit blotted from of their lives.

But those who were sweethearts ofthe regime want a replay. They willblame apartheid for corruption found ingovernment, will blame apartheid for

factions in the ruling party, will blameapartheid because there are partiessuch as the DA, Cope and UDM expos-ing their incompetency and untrustwor-thiness – the worst of them all thetemerity of the DA to call rallies intownships and that communities arebeginning to understand that the DA isnot an alien creature imported to reviveapartheid as purported.

As a country of responsible people wehave been silent for a long time, perhaps hoping that the ruling partywill come to its senses and notice thatthey are ruining the ideal that TataMadiba cherished for so long to build arainbow nation. The ruling party did allthey could to destroy that idea byeither harping on the mistakes ourfathers had made nullifying the spirit ofthe Truth and Reconciliation Commis-sion. Mistakes and blunders that haverecently been committed by the rulingparty are indicative of the fact thatthey were entrusted with the govern-ance before they were ready to govern.

The bottom line for political transfor-mation is that people should stop votingfor the ANC. It has failed us.

The ruling party hasfailed the people

MBUSI MUSAWENKOSI RADEBE,Bohlokong, Bethlehem:

PEOPLE, the previous meetingsbetween Vladimir Putin and SouthAfrica’s president act as a consolidationof state relations. We must analyse this.

The formation of Brics was necessaryfor long-term political relations.

South Africa as an influential statemember of the United Nations andAfrican Union can find itself beingpressurised into various motions forother states’ civil or internal matters.

As there are assumed future politicaldynamics in our country, could Russiabe empowering the presidential “yesmen” in a military fashion, helpingcrush dissidents as it has experiencedmany a year?

Putin has managed to eliminate these

threats. The run-up to equalise itself to China

in relation to South Africa and Africain terms of civilization and politics.

Can Russian diplomats manage toinfluence the Western Cape bureaucraticsystem due to differing ideologies thatexist as China’s province tries to havetrade relations with them?

The broad political scope is for Russiato gain its political standard by engag-ing the most economically viable stateslike South Africa. Will our democracyin the next ten years be growing furtherbecause most of the countries withcommunist alliances historically andnow, whether Maoists or Marxist-Len-nists- have a tendency of constitutionaloppression?

Let’s look at the motives of that Bricsstates like Russia in South Africa.

Communism,or democracy?
