INFANTANDCHILDMORTAL-ITY RATES in South Africa re-main unacceptably high and re-versing this trend is one of theFree State Department of Health’skey priorities as governmentworks towards achieving some ofthe Millennium DevelopmentGoals by reducing the rate of un-der five mortalities by two thirds. The introduction and promo-

KMC is a special method ofcare used to promote growth anddevelopment for low birth weightand preterm infants which in-volve babies being carried, usual-ly by themother, with skin-to-skincontact. To celebrate World Kan-garoo Mother Care Day, the Phek-olong District Hospital unveiledits newly-revamped KMC ward in

THE Bafana Bafana head coach, Gordon Ige-sund, has announceda 25-man squad to face theCentral African Republic (CAR) and Ethiopianext month in 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifyingmatches.

South Africa resumes the Road to Brazil-campaign with a crunch match against CAR atStadeAhmadouAhidjo inYaoundé,Cameroon,on 8 June at 15:00.

Their second match against Ethiopia in Ad-dis Ababa is pencilled for 16 June (kick-off at15:00).

“These are two very important matches forus, and even though we are missing a few play-ers through injuries or loss of form, things arelooking very positive.

“The players I have selected for these match-es are highly technical and ready for the chal-lenge. They also know what is at stake. I amquite confident that we will pull through,” Ige-sund said confidently.

“These are huge encounters for us, and as forthe CAR match, the most important thing isthat we must not lose this game. If we don’t winthen we need to have a draw so we can stay inthe race becausewe still have tomeet andhope-fully beat Ethiopia the following week who aretop of the group with two points ahead.”

The Bafana Bafana mentor believes thateven though playing away, hewill have to stickto his offensive strategy in order to get positiveresults.

“We beat CAR convincingly in Cape Town inMarch, and we want to continue with our at-tacking game like we did back then and I be-lieve playing in a neutral venue will help inthat regard. We have to be offensive if we wantto get something out of the match against CARor we will be putting ourselves in a very tightcorner,” he said.

“The followingweekwill be key against Ethi-opia, of course, depending on how they wouldhave played against Botswana,” he added.

Igesundhasmade sevenchanges to the squadthat played against CAR earlier this year. Mor-gan Gould, Siyabonga Sangweni, Siyanda Xu-

lu, Thabo Matlaba and Dino Ndlovu are all outinjured, while Daylon Claasen and LeratoChabangu have been left out.
