READING 1 PETER 5: 1-4 Reader approaches the ambo and proclaims the reading without the usual “A reading…” To the elders among you I, a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s suffering and sharer in the glory that is to be revealed, make this appeal. God’s flock is in your midst; give it a shepherd’s care. Watch over it willing as god would have you do, not under constraint; and not for shameful profit either, but generously. Be examples to the flock, not lording it over those assigned to you so that when the chief Shepherd appears you will win for yourselves the unfading crown of glory. Reader returns to their place and does not say, “The word of the Lord.”

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed; the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the might from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered the promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever. (bow) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit (stand erect) as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.

INTERCESSIONS Officiant: Jesus Christ is worthy of all praise, for he was appointed high priest among men and their representatives before God. We honor him and in our weakness we pray: All: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. Officiant: You marvelously illuminated your Church through distinguished leaders and holy men and women, let Christians rejoice always in such splendor. All: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. Officiant: You forgave the sins of your people when their holy leaders like Moses sought your compassion, through their intercession continue to purify and sanctify your holy people. All: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. Officiant: In the midst of their brothers and sisters you anointed your holy ones and filled them with the Holy Spirit, fill all the leaders of your people with the same Spirit. All: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. Officiant: You yourself are the only visible possession of our holy pastors, let none of them, won at the price of your blood, remain far from you. All: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. Officiant: The shepherds of your Church keep your flock from being snatched out of your hand. Through them you give your flock eternal life, save those who have died, those for who you gave up your life. All: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. THE LORD’S PRAYER Officiant: Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us offer the prayer Christ himself taught us: All: Our Father…

10

PRAYER Officiant: Let us pray.

All-powerful and ever-living God, You called Saint John Chrysostom to guide your people by his word and example. With him we pray to you: watch over the pastors of your Church with the people entrusted to their care, and lead them to salvation. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen

REPOSITION AND CLOSING HYMN

The Officiant or deacon, if deacon is not officiant, proceeds to the Monstrance, reverences and then removes the luna and reposes the Blessed Sacrament. When the tabernacle doors close, all rise and proceed with the closing Hymn. HYMN HOLY GOD WE PRAISE THY NAME

All:Holy God, we praise Thy Name; Lord of all, we bow before Thee! All on earth Thy sceptre claim, All in Heaven above adore Thee; Infinite Thy vast domain, Everlasting is Thy reign. Hark! the loud celestial hymn Angel choirs above are raising, Cherubim and seraphim, In unceasing chorus praising; Fill the heavens with sweet accord: Holy, holy, holy, Lord. Lo! the apostolic train Join the sacred Name to hallow; Prophets swell the loud refrain, And the white robed martyrs follow; And from morn to set of sun, Through the Church the song goes on. Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, Three we name Thee; While in essence only One, Undivided God we claim Thee; And adoring bend the knee, While we own the mystery.

Thou art King of glory, Christ: Son of God, yet born of Mary; For us sinners sacrificed, And to death a tributary: First to break the bars of death, Thou has opened Heaven to faith. From Thy high celestial home, Judge of all, again returning, We believe that Thou shalt come In the dreaded doomsday morning; When Thy voice shall shake the earth, And the startled dead come forth. Therefore do we pray Thee, Lord: Help Thy servants whom, redeeming By Thy precious blood out-poured, Thou hast saved from Satan’s scheming. Give to them eternal rest In the glory of the blest. Spare Thy people, Lord, we pray, By a thousand snares surrounded: Keep us without sin today, Never let us be confounded. Lo, I put my trust in Thee; Never, Lord, abandon me.

This concludes the liturgy. May God be with you!!!
