Biographical details
Dr George McGavin is an Scottish zoologist, entomologist and explorer.
He studied zoology at the University of Edinburgh and completed his doctorate in entomology at Imperial College London.
At the university of Oxford he served as assistant curator of entomology at the Museum of Natural History.
Since 2007 he is concentrate on his broadcasting work, but remains an honorary research associate at the museum, with a specialism in tropical insects.

George grew up in Edinburgh and as a young boy he was interested in the outside world.
Exploration
His explorations have taken him from tropical forest of Papua Guinea to the caves of Thailand.
He regularly speaks to
audiences about his
explorations and diverse
topics related to zoology. He has several insects
species named in his
honor.
Exploration
George has written numerous books on insects and other animals.
He shares all his experience and adventures in their books.
He also wrote a couple of
books for children.
Recognition & legacy
He is an Honorary Research Associate at Oxford University.
He is also Visiting Professor of Entomology at the University of Derby.
He is also an accomplished broadcaster having made many programmes for the BBC including the phenomenally successful ‘Lost Lands’ expedition series.
