Automotive design, a profession involved in the development of the aesthetics, functions and ergonomics of automobiles, is a manifestation of creativity, sensitivity, vision, imagination and implementation capacity. Commemorating its centenary under the motto “THE NEXT 100 YEARS” this year, German prestigious car brand BMW is organising “The Next BMW Designer 2016” motor vehicle design competition, inviting children and youngsters between the ages of 10 and 18 to explore their potential and showcase their creativity by designing their very own signature car of Hong Kong.

The champion of each category will be awarded a trip to Munich in the company of two parents/guardians to visit the BMW Welt, Museum and Plant. All winning entries will be featured in BMW Calendar 2017. A professional judging panel of elites from the design and art sectors will be formed to select one champion and three outstanding winners from each category.

Entry Requirements• Standard drawing medium or digital drawing tools are welcome. Use of clip art is forbidden for

computer-aided design.• Two A3 size (297 × 420mm) design plans, one for the exterior and one for the interior.• A 100 to 300 words idea description in English.

Submission of Entries• Softcopy of the design plans must be submitted by email to [email protected] specifying

the subject “The Next BMW Designer 2016” and the entry category between 16th July and 30th September 2016.

• The file format must be JPEG, TIFF or PDF. The file should not exceed 10MB in size.• A submission should include the design with a description in English and a completed application form.

Incomplete application will not be entertained.• The original hardcopy must be presented at final presentation.

Design Guidelines• The design shall be based on a movable vehicle on four wheels preferably catering Hong Kong’s traffic

characteristics.• Creativity, design concept, functionality and adherence to BMW’s core value are the key elements for

judging, while it should not violate any traffic laws or other relevant regulations applicable in Hong Kong.

Adjudication Panel• A panel of experts from the design and art sectors will be invited as judges to decide the winners of the

competition. BMW reserves the right of final decision.• Members of the panel include BMW management, a car designer, art and design experts.

Judging Criteria• Panel of judges and online voting.• Judging guidelines: creativity (25%), design concept (25%), functionality (25%) and adherence to BMW’s

responsible for proof of the actual age of the participants.• If the design is submitted to an inappropriate age group, the submission will be disqualified.• Designs must be original work and should not have been submitted to any other competition or exhibition.

Every participant shall, on enrolment, undertake that the design is completely new and original and the participant is the sole owner to all copyright in and to that design.

• All entries containing obscene or inappropriate content will be disqualified.• All designs submitted and the copyright of all entries belong to BMW.• BMW reserves the right to modify and use any work for promotion, publicity, production of materials,

display and printing purpose, without paying any fees or royalties to the participants.• BMW reserves the rights to amend the agenda, date and venue of the competition without prior notice.• Participants are considered to have agreed and confirmed to the rules and regulations when they

submitted their application forms. Participants under the age of 18 are required to obtain consent from their parents or guardians. They are also deemed to have agreed to BMW’s use of their names and/or images in any promotional activities related to the campaign.

• BMW reserves the right to disqualify any participants in breach of the rules and regulations listed. BMW has final decision in accepting or rejecting any application.
