 T he Regional Veloweb is a network of exist ing and planned off-street, shared-use paths (trails) designed for use by bicyclists, pedestrians, and other non-motorized forms of alternative transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. T he network  of shared-use paths serves as a system of off-road transportation facilities for bicyclists and other us ers to extend and complement the region’s roadway and passenger rail transit network.  T he r egional tr anspor tation network has approximately 320 miles of existing paths, and it is expected to reach 1,728 miles by 2035. The R egiona l Veloweb is planned for 12 counties and over 11 5 cities in North Texas. It is the “inters tate” fo r bicyc lis ts and pe destrians . Cities and c ounties within th e region a re responsi ble for the plannin g and implement ation of bicycle and pedestri an infrastru cture a nd a menities. T he No rth Central  T exas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) takes t hose plans and promotes connections throughout the region, with a focus on alternative commute routes. T he primary considerations of these r egional shared-use paths (trails) in clude: Often linear in natur e. Easy access t o neighborhoods, schools, parks, tr ansit stops, employment centers, shopping, and other common trip destinations.
