JOHANNESBURG

SUN CITY

CAPETOWN

Johannesburg: Regarded as the vibrant heart of South Africa, Johannesburg offers visitors an experience as unique and diverse as the city itself. It is really touching to witness the stark divide between the affluent suburbs and Soweto which still suffers from its apartheid history. It is also worth a visit to the Apartheid museum, homes of Nelson Mandella and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Sandton and Lilliesleaf the secret hideout of The ANC during apartheid.

Sun City This place is amazing! Known for its casual elegance, four graceful resorts, numerous restaurants and world-class events, prepare to be enchanted by the lush botanical gardens, two world class golf courses designed by Gary Player, opulent casino, and amazing setting.

If you feel like some excitement, the ‘Valley of the Waves’ waterpark with its giant wave pool and water slides is great fun. And there’s lots more to do including segway tours, the world’s fastest zip-slide, jet skiing, hovercrafts, the crocodile sanctuary or bird sanctuary, The Lost City maze, or safaris in the neighbouring Pilansberg National Game Park.

If you are like me you may prefer relaxing in the Royal Baths, pampering yourself in the Health Spa, or the luxurious Royal Salon, followed by dinner, a show, and a visit to the Tusk bar - the perfect place to enjoy a night cap.

Cape Town A short 2 hour flight from Johannesburg and on arrival you will immediately feel the lively ambiance of Cape Town. I think it worth staying in the V & A Water-front area as it has everything to offer, be it world class restaurants, local street entertainment, and markets. You can walk through the Springbok Rugby Mu-seum or catch a ferry to Robbin Island from here. I always suggest doing the hop on hop off bus to get your bearings, stop off at Clifton beach or Camps Bay for lunch and then on to Table Mountain where there is much to explore with wild flowers sprouting and look out points at which you could easily spend a couple of hours.

Stellenbosch – Franschoek (Wine Country) It is well worth getting a private guide to take you on the wine trail from Stellenbosch down towards Somerset West. There is so much to offer and their wine tasting cellars are very similar to ours, so you immediately feel welcome. Explore Stellenbosch on your way there or back and wander down Bird & Church Street to experience the Coffee houses. It has a unique and colourful village setting and is very walkable.

Thornybush Game Lodge and Reserve This is a part of a portfolio with 10 lodges and this particular lodge can accommodate up to 40 guests. They have 18 suites and 2 family room (2 adults and 2 children under 12yrs) with outstanding facilities and lots of ani-mals wandering around the property to keep you on your toes.

The lodges run 2 safari drives a day, one at dawn and the other at dusk where you are guaranteed to see the big five on most drives. They accommodate up to 9 people in their open-air land rovers with a guide/driver and a tracker who sits on the jump seat at the front of the vehicle. They all have radios guiding drivers to where there is activity and coordinate vehicles not to crowd any areas. Included in this is a break midway for a sundowner and opportunities to get to know your fellow travellers. A wonderful and memorable experience.

Mauritius What better way to end a holiday than relaxing on Mauritius - a melting pot of cultures and a wonderful combination of amazing beaches, golf courses, and spectacular sights. Port Louis (the capital) is steeped in history and has a wonderful fresh food market. Drive to the Citadel of Port Louise for the best view of the city. Towards the south and inland, visit Chamarel coloured earth, a natural phenomenon, and the Crocodile and Giant Tortoises Park and Nature reserve. There is a huge variety of resorts dotted all over Mauritius and in particular the Beachcomber resorts have a large portfolio to choose from.
