The Young India Fellowship (YIF) is offered as a one
year residential Post-Graduate Diploma in Liberal
Studies at Ashoka University. Since 2011, the YIF has
groomed over 1700+ socially conscious leaders, and is
currently building the 11th cohort of ~200 Fellows
who will be groomed to adapt to ‘the new normal’ and
develop a collaborative and interdisciplinary
approach to problem solving and leadership.

What is the Experiential Learning Module?
The Experiential Learning Module (ELM) is a core component of the YIF curriculum where the Fellows
work in groups of five on real-world projects from diverse sectors in collaboration with organisations
and institutions (Clients) from October 2021 to April 2022.

How can the ELM team add value to your organisation?
Each Client gets an ELM team of five young and dynamic Fellows from diverse backgrounds with a
strong drive to create impact.

Designing An Ideal ELM Project
Over the years, the following design attributes have led to successful ELM projects:
Space for the ELM team to understand the organisation’s values and how the project fits into the organisation’s vision
Channels for the ELM team to interact with key stakeholders and beneficiaries
An element of strategic design to be included as part of the project goals
An opportunity to pilot the proposed solutions and collect feedback
Redrafting the solution/recommendatio ns based on the pilot, along with final outcomes
Handing over the project to the client representatives to ensure the project outcomes last beyond the ELM duration

• ELM days: Fridays and Saturdays are designated as ELM days every week, with a total of ~60 days.
• ELM Weeks: One week each of intensive ELM work is provided in October and February.
• ELM Break: There is no ELM work from 19th December 2021 to 27th January 2022

Orientation & Preparation
No ELM
• Grading and Assessment: The Fellows are assessed at the end of each Phase to gauge their progress
in the project, and are given grades accordingly.
• Trainings: Trainings are provided on problem solving, data analysis, research methods, etc.
• YIF Internal Team Support: The YIF Internal Team also has regular touch-points with the ELM teams
and clients for general check-ins and any administrative support that may be required.

Project Selection and Allocation Process
*Projects are submitted through a project proposal form (details in later slides)
**The Pitching Document is a document containing the profiles of the interested team members and their
Expression of Interest for the project. In case multiple teams apply for the same project, the final decision is
with the Client

• Frequency of engagement of PH and PL
•Please note: The PH and PL should have a minimum of 5 and 3 years of relevant work experience respectively
•Please note: The PH and PL should engage with the team on a fortnightly and weekly basis respectively
Administrative Information
• Agreements on reimbursements, safety and security of ELM team (if they travel out of campus for ELM work), and sharing of data and resources
•Please note: All client organisations are required to reimburse a minimum of INR 10,000 towards ELM project expenses to the ELM team (if the project requires travel, accommodation or any other miscellaneous expenses)

Terms of Engagement
Professionalism
Teams are expected to work on all ELM days, and
maintain the highest degree of professionalism while
working with their Clients.
The Fellows are expected to complete the ELM project to
the satisfaction of the Client and the YIF Internal Team.
Place of Work
Project Lead every week, wherever they may be working
from, especially so when working remotely.
Project Progress
Point of Contact for Clients
The YIF Internal Team is also the Point of
Contact for Clients for all aspects related to the
ELM.
The YIF Internal Team will provide ongoing
training, coaching and support to the ELM team
through the ELM supervising faculty and
domain experts. The faculty will also grade and
assess the team. The training provided will be
of a standardised and general nature, and will
primarily deal with problem solving, innovative
thinking, understanding team dynamics and
basics of research and data analysis.
What can you expect from the YIF Internal Team?
What are the expectations from Clients? (1/2)
Reimbursement of Expenses

This includes travel, accommodation, and/or
other expenses. The YIF Programme will not be
able to bear any expenses for external ELM
projects.. As a broad estimate, usually ELM
teams working within Delhi-NCR may require a
minimum reimbursement of INR 10,000 (if they
are required to travel out of campus).

The Client can write to the YIF Internal Team in
case s/he wants to escalate the team’s non-
performance at any stage of the project cycle.
Safety and Security
and security of the ELM team during ELM work
outside the Ashoka University campus. While
the field visit component is set up in the ELM
calendar, these visits will be subject to the status
of COVID-19 and public health protocols. Safety
and security would be achieved by, among other
things, ensuring that places visited by the ELM
team are known to be safe by the Client, and
making available a known point person during
such field visits.
The Client is expected to discuss any changes in
the project scope, direction, or outcomes with the
YIF Internal Team. 22
