RG treated 250 cases of enlarged

prostate at Chennai

Chennai, Nov. 6:

India's foremost Urology and

Laparoscopy Hospital chain RG

Stone Urology & Laparoscopy Hos-

pital has organized a press confer-

ence for discussing the use of

HOLEP. Main aim behind organiz-

ing the press meet is to discuss

that more than 100 gram prostate

can be treated through HOLEP.

Addressing to the media Dr R

VijayKumar, Head and Chief Urolo-

gist RG Stone Urology & Lapro

scopy Hospitalsaid, "Prostate is a

walnut sized male reproductive

gland located at the base of urinary

bladder surrounding the urethra

(urine pipe). In a normal adult, it

weighs around 20 grams. The size

of the prostate gland increases

slowly with age in all males.

This is known as Benign Pros-

tatic Hyperplasia (BPH).This con-

dition is a sign of aging and is very

common in elderly males over 50

years of age. The increased size

of prostate squeezes the urethra

causing difficult and painful urina-

tion. In severe cases urination may

even become impossible, which is

an emergency requiring immediate

attention. He also said, we are proud to

announce over 15,000 successful

laser prostatectomies at RG Stone

Hospitals (all India branches) in

variety of cases like hypertension,

diabetes, patient with permanent

cardiac pacemaker, thalassemia

minor patient, etc. Amongst these

RG Stone Hospital at Chennai has

treated over 250 cases success-

fully." Dr. M. Jeevagan, Sr. Consult-

ant Urologist, Dr. Bhim Sen Bansal,

popularly known as 'Father of Lithot-

ripsy' in India, Chairman & Manag-

ing Director, RG Stone Urology &

Chennai, Nov 6:

TVS Group Company Wheels

India Ltd., a leading manufacturer

of Steel Wheels, has announced

that the company’s Net Profit for

the first half of the year (six months

ended 30th September 2012) was

at Rs. 17.53crores (six months

ended 30th September 2011- Rs.

18.17crores). Revenues for H1

ended 30th September 2012 was

at Rs.1017.72cr as against Rs.

966.72cr registered in the same

period last year.

Wheels India Limited is planning

to venture into retail distribution by

setting up warehouses in the name

of Wilgo. The company is planning

to set up these centres to meet its

customers on daily basis. Mean-

while, the company is looking at

setting up a facility in Gujarat.

Srivats Ram, managing director,

Wheels India Limited said that be-

sides catering to the daily needs,

the distribution will also cater to

short supply for replacement mar-

ket and trailer manufacturers.

He added the company sees

more demand for wheels in the re-

placement market especially from

the trailer segment, agri tractors,

Wheels India to launch

warehouses under

‘Wilgo’ brand

Srivats Ram, MD and Srivathsan, President ( Finance), Wheels India addressing the media

CVs regionally, particularly in the

northern region, where the demand

for wheels is growing on daily ba-

sis.“We want to meet the customer

needs on a daily basis and the

warehouses will enable the com-

pany to connect to the distribution

points and we want to make it shelf-

based," he said.

He added by December the com-

pany will have four Willgo ware-

houses across four regions and

based on the success, the com-

pany will expand further”. Currently

the replacement business accounts

for one per cent of company's over-

all turnover and it expect to in-

crease it to 3-5 per cent in the next

three to four years, he added.

According to Ram, this is one of

the initiatives the company has

taken in the last one year, during

the slowdown phase. The other two

major initiatives taken up by the

company includes rationalision of

its manufacturing facilities, which

would enable to meet the end us-

ers as company's OEM customers.

On the new initiatives, he said,

the company embarked upon

rationalising its production facilities

in Chennai, Pune, Rampur, Bawal,

and Pantnagar towards optimising

logistics constraints while saving

huge costs.Meanwhile, the company has

reported a 22 per cent drop during

the second quarter of the current

fiscal at Rs 8.60 crore as compared

to Rs 10.98 crore.

Company's turnover dropped

marginally to Rs 496.95 crore from

Rs 499.53 crore.

Ram said,"the company was

impacted by the slowdown in the

Indian economy that resulted in a

18 per cent drop in the medium and

heavy commercial vehicle market,

a five per cent drop in the agricul-

tural tractor market, with a marginal

growth in the car and utility vehicle

market".The exports of the economy did

show growth of around 40 per cent

in first half vis-a-vis the same pe-

riod last year. However this was not

adequate to offset the slowdown in

the domestic market. On the cost

front, the company faced steep in-

crease in energy costs due to

power tariff and availability of

power.

Chennai, Nov 6:

Dengue fever is an acute-viral

infection, which gets transmitted by

the bite of an infected female Aedes

aegypti mosquito. One of the most

common arthropod borne viruses,

there is no vaccine available to pre-

vent dengue virus from spreading.

A CME programme was conducted

by the SRM University’s Medical

College and Hospital today at its

Kattankulathur campus.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Medical) Dr

P Thangaraju elaborated in detail

the spread of dengue and said that

the best approach towards prevent-

ing the dengue fever is to take pre-

cautions in order to avoid being bit-

ten by the aedes aeqypti mosquito.

The necessary precautions to

prevent infection are as follows:

Protective clothing – You must

wear long clothing when there is an

outbreak of dengue or when you are

travelling to an infected region. Full

pants and long-sleeved shirts de-

crease the exposure of skin, and

lower the chances of a mosquito

bite and subsequent transmission

of the virus in your body. Further-

more, spray an insecticide contain-

ing permethrin on clothes to keep

away the virus-carrying insect.

Vector control–When you sus-

CME programme on dengue

fever at SRM Medicalpect the risk of dengue epidemic,

implement community vector con-

trol programs to eliminate potential

breeding grounds for the vector

mosquitoes.Stagnant water around human

habitation should be cleared (at

least once in a week) and water in

the vases/containers /barrels/

drums must be changed regularly.

Surface wells must be well-

maintained or covered to make sure

that mosquitoes do not breed in the

vicinity. Rain water and surface wa-

ter should also be cleared. Besides

vector control, spray a good-qual-

ity insecticide around the area

where you spend most of your time.

Using insect repellent – Use in-

sect repellent containing N, N-

iethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET)

to reduce the risk of getting infected

during a dengue threat. When there

is a danger of dengue outbreak or

there is dengue outbreak, use in-

sect repellent containing N, N-di-

ethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET)

to reduce the risk of an infecting

bite. The mosquito repellent must

be applied in the most exposed

areas of skin such as back of the

neck and wrists.

Sleeping in a mosquito net – You

should take extra precautions such

as sleeping in a mosquito net, this

will limit the risks of a bite at night.

Stay indoors during the day –

Aedes mosquitoes bite during the

day, therefore, it is advisable to

remain indoors as much as pos-

sible during the daytime.

Precautions when travelling – If

you are travelling to a place where

dengue is endemic, try to stay in a

well-screened or air conditioned

place.Dengue fever, which begins as a

minor febrile illness, can develop

into a fatal dengue hemorrhagic

fever. The condition usually re-

solves without treatment, but it is

also referred to as ‘break bone fe-

ver’, owing to its sudden onset.

Because there is no standard medi-

cal treatment available, it is highly

advisable to take precautions to

restrict the progression of dengue

fever into a fatal disease.

Dr James Pandian, Dean SRM

University Medical College and

Hospital emphasized on keeping

the surroundings clean so that

mosquito breeding could be

avoided. Earlier Dr S Gomathi Pro-

fessor of Micro Biology welcomed

the gathering. University officials,

doctors and students were present

on the occasion.
