Transcript of Experience nepal in a mustang trek, island peak and mera peak
Any trekker or mountaineer would sure not miss out Nepal in their adventure itinerary. The
most well-known places for such adventure and nature lovers would be a Mustang trek.
Meaning the fertile land, the geographic lay of the region makes it naturally attractive for
trekkers and mountaineers. The view and the trail to be taken are just breath-taking while
challenging the trekker. Best season for the trek would be during the spring, summer and
autumn season. Trekking in the region below 3000 feet during January and February is ideal.
Snowing occurs at higher levels during this time while nature opens in full bloom at the
lower levels. For mountaineers and trekkers desiring to conquer higher heights the months of
April and May are best suited.
For serious climbers the Island peak would be the first destination to seek. This is the first
line forming the Himalayan range. The peak is known as the Ijma Tse in the local language
and actually a misnomer being termed as the trekking peak. The ridges and slope gradients
that need to be traversed to reach the summit, calls for professional activity. Both in terms of
equipment required as well as training and knowledge in mountaineering practices. It is
recommended that help of Sherpa be taken to undertake this climbing activity. The Island
peak has been used as the base peak in the route to climb the Everest. The first such activity
had been carried out in 1953. The reason for its naming as an island comes from the view
that it presents. The best time to plan a climb to the Island peak is April and May and then
October to November. September is a month not at all favourable for the climb to this peak.
Another peak labelled as a trekker’s peak is the Mera peak. This peak however has been
wrongly given the label of trekker’s peak. The height of the summit as well as the route for
reaching the peak has been misreported by the authorities in Nepal. The peak in reality is
much higher than many Alpine peaks which are not considered to be trekker friendly.
However, the nice part is that the peak requires minimal expertise as well as equipment to
trek up to.
