3 Expansion planning principlesThe following principles apply to planning expansions.

Licences are always required for expansions. The maximum configurations for the Dual Duplexer Module (ERxA) are:

A maximum of 8 TRXs per sector with one ERxA

A maximum of 12 TRXs per sector with multiple ERxAs

A maximum of 24 TRXs per BCF

The maximum configurations for the Remote Tune Combiner Module (ECxA) are:

A maximum of 12 TRXs is supported per sector

A maximum of 18 TRXs is supported per BCF

An ERxA configuration refers to any configuration with Dual Duplexer Modules (ERxA)

connected to the antenna line. An ECxA configuration refers to any configuration with a

Remote Tune Combiner Module (ECxA) connected to the antenna line.

Note that cell capacity can be increased with Multi Base Control Function (BCF). Multi

BCF is an application software product that allows combining resources of several

physical base stations into one logical cell. Multi BCF increases the Flexi EDGE BTS

cell capacity to 36 TRXs, while requiring no extra broadcast control channels (BCCH).

For more details, see GSM/EDGE BSS, BSC and TCSM Product Documentation.

Table Common expansion cases with downtime and estimated work effortshows

common expansion cases and divides the cases into the following categories by

    downtime and work effort:

Quick and easy: Requires no downtime, except if you are activating a feature which

requires a reset (for example BB hopping, Extended Cell). Hardware installationwork is not needed.

Minor: The sector is blocked during expansion work. Existing modules do not need

    to be relocated.

Major: The BCF is blocked during expansion work. Modules must be relocated.

Note that the work effort assumes that the original configuration was built as instructed

    in this documentation set.

For illustrations of common configurations, see Creating Stack, Wall and Pole Configu-

rations, Creating FCIA Configurationsand Creating FCOA configurations.

    For a description of upgrade-optimised, cost-optimised and antenna-optimised configu-

rations, see Flexi EDGE BTS configuration featuresin Creating Stack, Wall and PoleConfigurations, Creating FCIA Configurationsor Creating FCIA Configurations.

1)Downtime may be required if activating a feature which requires a reset (for example

    BB hopping, Extended Cell).

2)In upgrade-optimised configurations, odd-numbered sectors are built like the next

even-numbered sectors, allowing for easier expansion.

3)In cost-optimised configurations, the Dual TRX module (EXxA) carriers (A and B) are

split into separate sectors. Cost-optimised configurations which minimise the number of

required modules are not recommended if future expansion is possible at the site.

4)For BSC work effort, 'Minor' means that existing TEI and TSL allocations do not

General expansion principles for Nokia Flexi EDGEBTS

4 General expansion principles for Nokia Flexi

    EDGE BTS

    4.1 Sector expansion principles

These principles apply to adding one or several TRXs to a sector in a configuration

    which

has Dual Duplexer Modules (ERxA), and

does not exceed 12 TRXs per BCF.

    Before visiting the site:

TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC. Note that when a

TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.

Check to see if a site visit or hardware changes are required: If RF cables were installed for future expansion but are not in use, a site visit is

not required. For example, when expanding from a 1+1+1 bypass 1UD configu-

ration to a 2+2+2 bypass 2UD configuration, all RF cables are already pre-

    installed.

If the combining method has not changed and the expansion is from an odd-

numbered (upgrade-optimised) configuration to the next even number (for

example from a 3+3+3 to a 4+4+4), hardware changes are not required.

    After arriving at the site:

To minimise downtime, pre-install as many modules and cables in advance with the

existing configuration still operating, excluding connecting power or RF cables to live

modules. For the remaining expansion work, block the sector and disable power to

the System Module (ESMA) power ports for the existing and new Dual TRX Modules

    (EXxA).

If you are expanding more than one sector of a stack 2+2+2 bypass, an EUCA

upgrade RF cable kit is required for those Dual TRX Modules which are not physi-

cally located next to the sector modules in the stack.

If the combining method has changed, it is easier to remove all existing RF cables

in the sector and then re-connect them according to the new configuration.

See the configuration tables for the relationship between different modules for each

    configuration:

Common sector configurationsin Creating Stack, Wall and Pole Configurations.

    Configurations.

4.2 System Extension Module (ESEA) expansion principles

The following principles apply to expansions that require adding a System Extension

Module (ESEA) to a configuration having a Dual Duplexer Module (ERxA), that is, when

expanding from 12 TRXs or less per BCF to more than 12 TRXs.

    Before visiting the site:

TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC. Note that when a

TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.

Check if the site was built in preparation for future expansion with the System Exten-

sion Module pre-installed. If so, follow the sector expansion principles (see Sector

    expansion principles).

    After arriving at the site:

Nokia Siemens Networks recommends to use separate fused DC input lines for the

System Extension Module. If a separate line is not available, double rubber boots

must be ordered as a spare part. See Expanding to a System Extension Module(ESEA) configurationfor details.

Adding a System Extension Module typically requires modules to be relocated and

new bus/internal power cabling numbering. To reduce cable work, disconnect the

bus/internal power cables from the System Module (ESMA) and keep the other end

connected to the Dual TRX Modules (EXxA).

To minimise downtime, pre-install as many modules and cables in advance with the

existing configuration still operating, excluding connecting power or RF cables to live

modules. The cable for the new System Extension Module DC input line should also

be prepared in advance. Block the BCF, undo commissioning, and shut off mains

power for the remaining expansion work.

It is easier to remove all existing RF cables in the sector and re-connect themaccording to the new configuration.

See Common cabinet configurationsin Creating FCIA Configurationsor Creating

FCOA Configurationsfor the relationship between different modules for each con-

    figuration.

For instructions on how to expand to a configuration that requires a System Extension

Module, see Expanding to a System Extension Module (ESEA) configuration.

4.3 Remote Tune Combiner Module (ECxA) expansion princi-

    ples

The following principles apply to expansions that involve adding Remote Tune

    Combiner Modules (ECxA).

    Before visiting the site:

TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC. Note that when a

TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.

If RF cables were installed for future expansion but are not in use, a site visit is not

required. For example, when expanding from a 5+5+5 to a 6+6+6 configuration with

Remote Tune Combiner Modules, all RF cables are already be pre-installed.

Confirm this before visiting the site.

    After arriving at the site:

If you are expanding from a 2-6 to a 7-12 TRX sector:

An EUCA upgrade RF cable kit is required. The longer RF cables are required

to connect the RX external output and input ports on the two Remote Tune

Combiner Modules in the sector without blocking the modules in between.

Some modules will need to be relocated. To reduce cable work, disconnect the

bus/internal power cables from the System Module (ESMA) or System Exten-

sion Module (ESEA), and keep the other end connected to the Dual TRX or

    Remote Tune Combiner Modules.

To minimise downtime, pre-install as many modules and cables in advance with the

existing configuration still operating, excluding connecting power or RF cables to live

modules. For the remaining expansion work, block the sector and disable power to

the System Module or System Extension Module power ports for the existing and

new Dual TRX or Remote Tune Combiner Modules in the sector.

In configurations having a Remote Tune Combiner Module, you typically do not

need to remove existing RF cables for expansion.

4.4 Optional power module or rectifier module expansion

    principles

The following principles apply to expansions with optional Flexi Power Modules (FPMA

or FPDA) or Flexi Power Rectifier Modules (FPRx).

    Before visiting the site:

If the existing configuration has an FPDA or FPMA, verify that additional power

modules or sub-modules are needed to support the new configuration. You can do

this by comparing the current configuration with the new configuration in the

    common configuration tables:

Common stack, wall and pole configurationsin Creating Stack, Wall and Pole

    Configurations.

Common cabinet configurationsin document Creating FCIA Configurationsor

    Creating FCOA Configurations.

Common sector configurationsin document Creating Stack, Wall and Pole Con-figurations.

If the existing configuration has a Flexi Power Rectifier Module (FPRx), verify that

additional rectifiers or modules are needed to support the new configuration. You

can do this by comparing the output power of the installed module(s) and the power

    consumption of the new configuration.

For more information on FPRx, see the installation instructions in NOLS.

    After arriving at the site:

If you need to add any power or rectifier modules or sub-modules during the expan-

sion, block the BCF, and make sure that the mains power is disconnected before

    you start the expansion work.

For details about FPDA, FPMA, FPAA or FPBA locations, see Optional power

modules in Flexi EDGE BTS configurationsin document Installing Flexi EDGE BTS

Optional Items. If you are installing a second FPDA, it must be placed directly on top

    of the existing one.

Note that the FPMA or FPDA is not supported in some large cabinet configurations

because there is not enough space for the required modules.

For details about FPRx module locations, see Principles for installing FPRx in Flexi

EDGE BTS configurationsin document Installing Flexi EDGE BTS Optional Items.

    4.5 Feederless site expansion principles

    Before visiting the site:

TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC. Note that when a

TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.

Make sure that locally sourced DC power feed cable will be available at the site.

    After arriving at the site:

Verify that any EECA cable kits required for the configuration are included in the

    delivery.

To minimise downtime, pre-install as many modules and cables in advance with the

existing configuration still operating, excluding connecting power or RF cables to live

modules. For the remaining expansion work:

If you are not adding a System Extension Module (ESEA) or you do not need to

change the mains power configuration, traffic can be blocked and power turned

off to each sector individually. For all other cases, the BCF needs to be blocked and mains power turned off to

    all sectors.

Always perform expansion work one sector at a time, starting with the local base and

    followed by the remote sectors.

4.6 Double Power (DP) expansion principles

Double Power TRX is a licensed application software product.

Follow these principles with Double Power (DP) TRX configurations.

    Before visiting the site:

Order the SW licence file that contains DP TRX, and install it at the BSC.

Double Power TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC. Note

that when a TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.

If hardware was pre-installed for future expansion but is not in use, a site visit is not

required. For example, when expanding from a 1+1+1 DP 4UD to a 2+2+2 DP 4UD,

a site visit is not required if all hardware was pre-installed as recommended.

    After arriving at the site:

The same principles as in Sector expansion principlesapply.

    Transmission expansion principles

5 Transmission expansion principlesThe growing amount of traffic in the network requires flexible transmission capacity

expansion. To expand transmission capacity, connect additional transmission interfaces

to the transmission sub-module when needed.

The transmission sub-module, which is a part of the System Module (ESMA), has the

    following variants available:

    8 x E1/T1 balanced 120/100 Ohms (FIPA)

    8 x E1 coaxial 75 Ohms (FIEA)

    2 x Nokia Flexbus Interfaces 16 x 2Mbit/s (FIFA)

    4 x E1/T1 balanced 120/100 Ohms or 2 x Fast Ethernet and 1 Gigabit Ethernet inter-

    faces (FIQA)

    4 x E1 coaxial 75 Ohms or 2 x Fast Ethernet and 1 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces (FIYA)

Note that for the Gigabit Ethernet Interface, an additional compatible small form-factor

pluggable (SFP) module is required. The SFP module is a separate sales item.

The following principles apply to transmission expansions:

Configuration of Abis traffic allocation in the BTS must match the configuration in the

    BSC.

TRX signalling channels and traffic channels (TCH) must be at the same E1/T1

    interface or pseudowire.

The EGPRS Dynamic Abis Pool (EDAP) size at the BSC and BTS and the time slot

order at the BSC and BTS EDAPs must be the same. For maintenance reasons,

Nokia Siemens Network recommends using the same timeslot allocation at the BSC

    and BTS.

The EDAP pool must be at the same E1/T1 interface or pseudowire as the EDGETRXs.

The maximum EDAP sizes in Flexi EDGE BTS are 1 - 29 TSLs for E1 and 1 - 22

TSLs for T1. The maximum EDAP size in BSC is 24.

Up to 12 TRXs are supported on a single E1 2 Mbit/s PCM line or pseudowire and up to

10 TRXs are supported on a single T1 1.5 Mbit/s PCM line. With the Compressed Abis

Timeslot Allocation software product, up to 15 TRXs are supported on a single E1 2

Mbit/s PCM line or pseudowire and up to 11 TRXs are supported on a single T1 1.5

Mbit/s PCM line. For Compressed Abis Timeslot Allocation, the TRX signalling channel

is set on top of the traffic channel.

For more information, see document BSS Transmission Configurationin GSM/EDGE

BSS, BSC and TCSM Product Documentationin NOLS.

    Transmission sub-modules FIPA (E1/T1), FIEA (E1), FIQA (E1/T1), FIYA (E1) - TDM

    mode

The transmission sub-module FIPA for E1/T1 or FIEA for E1 supports up to 8 TDM inter-

    faces.

The transmission sub-module FIQA for E1/T1 or FIYA for E1 supports up to 4 TDM inter-

    faces.

If the Abis allocation requires more than one PCM line, further E1/T1 interfaces can be

deployed. The configuration and the settings of the Line Interface (LIF) will be done with

    Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.

For T1 settings, the Line Coding must be AMI or B8ZS, and it must be the same as the

    far end.

As default, two interfaces can be deployed. For further two interfaces, a software licence

is required for the Flexi EDGE Additional 2 E1, T1 IF (BSS30285) application softwareproduct. This licence is trust-based in the BSS12 release, and licence-key controlled in

BSS13. For more information, see Technical Note TN_2GBTSf_SW_2007_1.

    Transmission sub-modules FIQA (E1/T1), FIYA (E1) - PWE mode

The FIQA and FIYA transmission sub-modules contain two fast Ethernet ports and one

SFP connector/cage for an optical Gigabit SFP module. The fast Ethernet port 2 is dis-

abled. These ports provide support for Abis over IP. Abis signalling and traffic from the

BSC is converted into Ethernet traffic using a far-end pseudowire (PW) device. Traffic

reaches the BTS through an IP network. The FIQA and FIYA sub-modules in the

pseudowire emulation (PWE) mode offer 8 pseudowires (which map to 8 virtual inter-

faces with E1 capacity) within a single pseudowire tunnel.

An additional SFP module is needed to support a Gigabit Ethernet interface.

For Abis over IP, a software license is required.

The Ethernet Interfaces (EIF) are configured with Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.

    Flexbus transmission sub-module FIFA

One FIFA transmission sub-module is used per Flexi EDGE BTS with two Flexbus inter-

faces, allowing for microwave radio tail and chain site topologies using Nokia FlexiHop-

per and MetroHopper. The FIFA sub-module offers up to 16 x E1 interfaces. Each of

these 16 E1 signals can be made operational, and the frame format can be selected.

Flexbus 1 can be used without a licence. Using Flexbus 2 requires a separate Additional

Flexbus (FB) interface licence to be installed. For more information, see Technical NoteTN_2GBTSf_SW_2007_1.

You can manage the FIFA sub-module locally and remotely using Nokia FlexiHub

manager. The configuration of the internal Line Interface (LIF) settings will be done with

    the Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.

For more information, see Establishing transmission linkin document Flexi EDGE BTS

    Commissioning.

    Abis loop protection

The Nokia PDH Loop Protection functionality provides instant recovery from transmis-

sion failures in a network of network elements, where each element is assigned two

independent transmission routes. If there is a fault in one route, the system switchestraffic, synchronisation and Q1 management functions to the intact route.

When changing the topology from a chain configuration to loop protection, define the

parameter and condition bits with the Flexi EDGE BTS Manager. The Abis protection

menu allows you to specify a protecting interface for the traffic allocations created on the

    selected interface.

Additionally you need to configure the synchronisation protection, and the traffic of the

other BTSs in the loop must be by-passed with bi-directional cross-connections. If BSC

polling is used for transmission supervision, Q1 loop protection must also be configured.

The settings must match the loop master settings.

Abis loop protection, synchronisation protection and Q1 protection are not available with

the FIQA and FIYA sub-modules in the PWE mode.

also BSS 30280 Abis loop protectionin document Flexi EDGE BTS Feature Descrip-

    tions.

    Cross-connections

Cross-connections define how signals are routed from a transmission interface to

another transmission interface. They are the basic building blocks for creating the path

for transmitting the Abis capacity from the BSC to the BTS via interconnecting nodes. If

there are changes in the traffic allocation during the expansions, this must be taken into

    account in the cross-connection.

Cross-connections and Abis grooming are not available with the FIQA and FIYA sub-

    modules in the PWE mode.

The BSS 21129 Abis Grooming feature needs a SW license with BSS13 onwards. For

more information, see Technical Note TN_2GBTSf_SW_2007_1.

    BSC download of Abis mapping

Abis mapping automates the process of providing Abis allocations on the BTS. The BTS

must be able to configure the allocation of the Abis using the information received from

the BSC, instead of getting the information in a site configuration file (SCF). This config-

uration is performed by the BTS, by using mapping algorithms to convert the BSC data

into BTS Abis allocations. The mapping between the BSC data and the interfaces at the

BTS relies on reference signals that are collectively known as the Abis Termination infor-

mation of the BTS. The Abis mapping information is provided to the BTS. The Abis Ter-

mination information is provided to the BTS during commissioning via the site

configuration file from the Flexi EDGE BTS Manager. One reference signal per interface

    is supported at the BTS.

An Abis mapping Information Element (IE) consists of Abis channels (TRXSIG and

TCH) in BTS_CONF_DATA grouped into a bundle. The BTS_CONF_DATA can carry

several instances of Abis mapping IE(s), one for each bundle or interface. The interface

timeslots in the Abis mapping IE(s) from the BSC are the timeslots at the BSC interface.

OMUSIG configuration is still taken from the Abis Termination information already

stored at the BTS, and not from the Abis mapping IE. The timeslot information provided

in the Abis mapping IE is converted into timeslot information for the BTS via the Abis

mapping algorithm. EGPRS Dynamic Abis Pool (EDAP) information is provided using

the Dynamic Pool Info IE(s) in the BTS_CONF_DATA. The interface timeslots in the

Dynamic Pool Info IE(s) are the timeslots at the BSC interface.

The Flexi EDGE BTS Manager has been enhanced with the Abis mapping download

    function.

6.1 Principles for changing from a cost-optimised to anupgrade-optimised configuration

Follow these principles when changing from a cost-optimised to an upgrade-optimised

    configuration:

One TRX from a Dual TRX Module (EXxA) must be moved to a new sector. This

requires changing TEI and TSL allocations in the BSC.

During expansion, lock both sectors that were cost-optimised.

6.2 Principles for changing from an upgrade-optimised to an

    antenna-optimised configuration

Follow these principles when changing from an upgrade-optimised to an antenna-opti-

    mised configuration:

When changing from a 4 TRX (2 Dual TRX Modules (EXxA) and 2 antennas)

    upgrade-optimised to a 6 TRX antenna-optimised (3 Dual TRX Modules and 3

    antennas):

You will need a Dual Duplexer Module (ERxA) from which the third antenna is

    taken.

Connect the Rx diversity from the existing Dual Duplexer Module to the new

    Dual TRX Module.

    When changing from a 4+4 upgrade-optimised to a 6+6 TRX antenna-optimised:

You will need 2 Dual TRX Modules and 1 Dual Duplexer Module in addition.

First disconnect all existing Rx cables. Then connect the cables normally exceptthe Tx cables connected to the new Dual Duplexer Module must come from dif-

    ferent sectors.

An upgrade RF cable kit (EUCA) is required.

6.3 Principles for expanding an artificially split sector

An artificially split sector refers to a situation when two separate sectors transmit to the

same direction using the same antenna.

If you are expanding an artificially split sector (for example, a 1+3 to a 1+5 or 7), change

the combining method to 4-Way for the sector that already has more TRX objects con-

figured. Furthermore, the following configurations have been tested without problems:

2+6, 3+5, 4+4. It is required to use the EP1.1 CD1.0 SW level as a minimum.

Note that RF cabling must be defined manually during commissioning to get the artifi-

    cially split sector working.

    way 2UD configuration

    7.1 Expanding a 2+2+2 bypass 2UD to 4+4+4 2-way 2UD con-

figuration with 48 V DC power

    Purpose

These instructions show how to expand up to three sectors from a 2+2+2 bypass 2UD

    configuration to a 4+4+4 2-way 2UD configuration with 48 V DC.

    Before you start

TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC.

You will need the following new modules, depending on the number of expansionsectors.

    One sector

    1 Dual TRX Module (EXxA)

    2 Wideband Combiner Sub-module (EWxx)

With stack installation, one 2U casing kit (EMTA)

    Two sectors

    2 Dual TRX Modules (EXxA)

    4 Wideband Combiner Sub-module (EWxx)

With stack installation, two 2U casing kits (EMTA) and one upgrade cable kit

    (EUCA)

    Three sectors

    3 Dual TRX Modules (EXxA)

    6 Wideband Combiner Sub-module (EWxx)

With stack installation, three 2U casing kits (EMTA) and two upgrade cable kits

    (EUCA)

Note that the effect of using the Upgrade Cable Kit (EUCA) for Tx cabling is 0.7 dB with

high band, and 0.45 dB with low band. Nokia Siemens Networks recommends not to use

these cables for Tx cabling in configurations when RF performance is critical.

    Summary

The figures below show the module installation order for expanding all three sectors for

FCIA, FCOA, and stack installations. The modules that need to be added are indicated

    in the figures.

    7.2 Expanding a 2+2+2 bypass 2UD to 4+4+4 2-way 2UD con-

figuration with AC or 24 V DC power

PurposeThese instructions show how to expand all three sectors from a 2+2+2 bypass 2UD con-

    figuration with 24 V DC or AC power to a 4+4+4 2-way 2UD configuration.

When AC or 24 V DC is used, an additional power module needs to be installed, which

requires mains power to the BTS to be turned off.

If only 1 or 2 sectors are being expanded, an additional power module is not needed. In

this case, follow the instructions in Expanding to a 3+3+3/4+4+4 2-way 2UD configura-

    tion with 48V DC power.

    Before you start

See Optional power (24V DC or AC) expansion principles.

TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC.

The following new hardware is needed:

    3 Dual TRX Modules (EXxA)

    6 Wideband Combiner Sub-module (EWxx)

If 24 V DC power is used, an additional FPDA and three upgrade cable kits (EUCA)

    are needed

If AC power is used, then an additional FPAA is needed and two upgrade cable kits

    (EUCA) are needed.

If the BTS is using short-term battery backup (FPBA), then an FPBA needs to be

added, along with the FPAA. Follow the same instructions for adding FPAA.

Note that the effect of using the upgrade cable kit (EUCA) for TX cabling is 0.7 dB with

high band, and 0.45 dB with low band. Nokia Siemens Networks recommends not to use

these cables for TX cabling in configurations when RF performance is critical.

    Steps

1 Notify the appropriate personnel and block the BCF with Flexi EDGE BTSManager.

Expanding Flexi EDGE BTS Expanding to ESEA configurations

    Id:0900d805806bc35b

    9 Expanding to ESEA configurations

9.1 Expanding to a System Extension Module (ESEA) config-uration

    Purpose

The following System Extension Module (ESEA) expansion cases are instructed here:

Expanding from a 12 TRX or less Dual Duplexer Module (ERxA) configuration to a

13-24 TRX Dual Duplexer Module configuration.

Expanding from a 12 TRX or less Dual Duplexer Module configuration to any

Remote Tune Combiner Module (ECxA) configuration.

Both cases require adding a System Extension Module. For details, see Bus and internal

power cabling principles for System Extension Module (ESEA)in Creating FCIA Config-

    urationsor Creating FCOA Configurations.

    Before you start

If the BTS has 24V DC or AC power, see Optional power (24V DC or AC) expansion

    principles.

TRXs must be created in the BSC.

Nokia Siemens Networks recommends that the System Module (ESMA) and System

Extension Module (ESEA) have separate fused DC input lines from the external power

source for safety reasons. The rubber boots provided in the System Module and System

Extension Module deliveries are only allowed for use with single DC cables. Fault inves-

tigation is also easier with separate DC lines.

If separate fused DC lines are not available for the System Module and System Exten-

sion Module, the DC lines can be chained. If chaining is used, one double rubber boot

(822862) per chained power terminal is required for safety and must be ordered as a

spare part. For an example of DC chaining, see Installing Flexi Power DC/DC Module

24V (FPDA)in document Installing Flexi EDGE BTS Optional Items.

    Steps

1 Verify that the new TRXs have been created in the BSC.Note that when a TRX is created in the BSC, it is in the locked state.

2 Notify the appropriate personnel and block the BCF with Flexi EDGE BTSManager.

Alternatively, you can request a BCF lock from the BSC.

12 Unblock the BCF with Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.Alternatively, you can request to unlock the BCF from the BSC.

13 Power on the System Module and System Extension Module.

14 If RF Cabling Auto-detection is used for the configuration, reset the BCF with RFCabling Auto-detection using Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.

Note that adding a System Extension Module changes the internal module identifiers of

the Dual TRX Modules (EXxA) and Dual Duplexer Modules (ERxA) that were previously

connected to the System Module. This forces the BTS to update the RF autodetected

cabling with the new internal module identifiers for both the old and new Dual TRX

Modules. This resolves some issues that could occur during commissioning in step 15

    below.

15 Save the current BTS site configuration file (SCF) to hard disk. This allows you to reload the HW and Transmission data in step 14 below so that

existing HW and Transmission settings such as IBBU, MHA, and passive unit details donot need to be defined again.

    16 Uncommission the BTS.

17 Commission the BTS.Note that adding a System Extension Module changes the internal module identifiers of

the Dual TRX Modules (EXxA) and Dual Duplexer Modules (ERxA) that were previously

connected to the System Module. Therefore you need to re-define the antenna cabling

when commissioning. Antenna cabling is not autodetected. For example, if antenna 1

had previously been connected to AntA of ERxA1, antenna 1 must now be defined asbeing connected to AntA of ERxA601, even if the sector configuration has not changed.

Note that if RF cable autodetection is not available for the new configuration, every

module identified in the RF cabling section must be modified to use the new module

identifiers as well as adding the new cables. For example, a TX cable from source unit

EXxA1 port TxA to destination unit ERxA1 port TXA must be modified to specify a TX

cable from source unit EXxA601 port TxA to destination unit ERxA601 port TXA.

14 Unblock the BCF with Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.Alternatively, you can request to unlock the BCF from the BSC.

15 Reset the BCF with RF Cabling Auto-detection using Flexi EDGE BTS Manager.Note that adding a System Extension module changes the internal module identifiers of

the Dual TRX and Dual Duplexer Modules that were previously connected to the System

Module. This forces the BTS to update the RF auto-detected cabling with the newinternal module identifiers for both the old and new Dual TRX Modules. This resolves

some issues that could occur during commissioning in step 16 below.

16 Save the current BTS site configuration file (SCF) to hard disk. This allows you to reload the HW and Transmission data in step 16 below so that

existing settings such as IBBU, MHA, and passive unit details do not need to be defined

    again.

    17 Uncommission the BTS.

18 Commission the BTS.Note that adding a System Extension module changes the internal module identifiers of

the Dual TRX and Dual Duplexer Modules that were previously connected to the System

Module. Therefore, you need to re-define the antenna cabling when commissioning.

Antenna cabling is not auto-detected. For example, if antenna 1 had previously been

connected to AntA of ERxA1, antenna 1 must now be defined as being connected to

AntA of ERxA601, even if the sector configuration has not changed.

19 After the BTS is successfully commissioned, tie down any loose cables. Ifcasings are used, re-install the front covers.

    10 Expanding feederless configurations

    10.1 Expanding from a 2+2+2 by-pass 2UD to a 4+4+4 2-way2UD feederless configuration on a rooftop

    Purpose

These instructions show how to expand local and remote sectors from a rooftop 2+2+2

to a 4+4+4 feederless configuration. These instructions assume the original installation

was optimised for expansion (see Feederless site expansion principles).

In this expansion case, you can expand each sector one at a time to minimise site down-

time. This expansion case does not require you to shut down the entire site.

    Before you start

You will need the following new hardware for the sector in the local base:

    1 Dual TRX Module (EXxA)

    2 Wideband Combiner Sub-modules (EWxx)

    1 2U casing kit (EMTA)

Needed only if the existing modules are in casings.

You will also need the following new hardware for each remote sector:

    1 Dual TRX Module (EXxA)

    2 Wideband Combiner Sub-modules (EWxx)

TRXs for the new configuration must first be created in the BSC.

    Summary

The figures below show the module installation order for expanding local and remote

sectors in feederless configurations. The figures indicate the modules that you need to

    add.
