To demonstrate an understanding of the chosen issue through:

• Written work (exhibition journal)

• Oral presentations

• Technology

• Performing arts - dance, song, music

• Visual arts in the form of a personal piece of art

What is the BIG Expectation?

What is the role of the student?

• With teacher support, carry out an open-ended or guided inquiry into a real-life issue or problem.

• To demonstrate their learning and the development of the attributes of the learner profile.

• Be academically honest when referring to their sources of information.

• To record their reflections in their Exhibition journal.

• To celebrate with your son/daughter by attending the Exhibition Gala Evening on the 3rd of May

Who will act in the role of mentor ?

ISU teachers have been invited to volunteer to act as a mentor for the Gr. 5 PYP exhibition.

Each action group will be assigned a mentor.

hold regular meetings with their group

pose questions and help interpret difficult information

help facilitate interviews and field trips

give time management advice

celebrate with the action group by attending the ISU Exhibition on the 3rd of May

Timeline

Week 1: Introduction to the PYP Exhibition, tuning in.

Week 2: Issues groups formed and mentors assigned.

Weeks 3-6: Mentor meetings, research / field trips start defining the action plan in groups

Week 7-8: Defining and taking action

Week 9-10: Getting ready for the staging of the Exhibition

Week 11: ISU Exhibition Gala Evening 3rd of May

PYP Exhibition

Something for us all to remember… As with any inquiry there will be times when it seems that students are not being very productive.

Sometimes there will be lot of discussion and thought but this will not result in anything that can be seen.

Students (and adults) need time and space to wonder about things and consider their plans.

Considerable emphasis is placed on the exhibition journal. Students will show their understanding of concepts, the process and the application of skills (e.g. problem solving) in their journal.
