What is a catalytic converter?

A catalytic converter is an emissions control device that converts toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction (an oxidation and a reduction reaction). Catalytic converters are used with internal combustion engines fueled by petrol (gasoline), natural gas or diesel.

Three Way Catalytic Converters(TWC)

The Three Way Catalytic Converters(TWC), it removes harmful nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbon(HC) from the engine. It is called a catalytic converter because it converts CO into CO2, NOX into N2 and O2, and HC into H2O and CO2 through chemical reactions on a solid catalyst.

A three-way catalytic converter has three simultaneous tasks:1. Reduction of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and oxygen: NOx + CO → xO2 + N22. Oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide: 2CO + O2 → 2CO23. Oxidation of unburnt hydrocarbons (HC) to carbon dioxide and water: C3H6x +

TWC Functions

The TWC converts the CO, HC, NOx into CO2 and N2 in the certain air-fuel ratio range and temperature condition.

Step 1: Molecules of polluting gases are pumped from the engine past the honeycomb catalyst, made from platinum, palladium, or rhodium.

Step 2: The catalyst splits up the molecules into their atoms. Step 3: The atoms then recombine into molecules of relatively harmless substances

such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water, which blow out safely through the exhaust.

Diesel Oxidation Catalysts(DOC)

The Diesel Oxidation Catalysts(DOC) converts CO, HC and PM into CO2 in a certain temperature with rich burning condition.

Our advanced TWC have these advantages:1. Optimized coating distribution.2. Improve the radial and axial use rate.3. Shorten the light-off temperature of catalysts to raise up CO and HC conversion

ratio, so as to reduce cost.4. CO Low light-off temperature ≤ 186 ℃. 5. High conversion ratio : 300℃ (λ≥1.1) CO≥95% ,HC≥ 80%. PM ≥ 50% NO≥40%

Lean NOx Traps (LNT), also known as NOx absorbers, can control NOx (nitrogen oxides) emissions from lean burn diesel engines.

Function:Lean NOx Trap adsorbs the NOx in rich lean burning condition, then have a desorption reduction reaction into N2 in rich burning condition. In a normal operating conditions(Air/Fuel≥20), NOx will be adsorbed by BaO become to Ba(NO3)2. When adsorption is filled, the engine exhaust system A/F turns into rich burning condition(A/F<14). The temperature raised, Ba(NO3)2 will have a desorption reduction reaction into NOx, then NOx converted in to N2 via catalyst.

An LNT has three simultaneous tasks:NO2+BaO ->Ba(NO3)2 Ba(NO3)2 -> NO2 + BaONO2 + Rh -> N2

Advantages: High Temperature Resistant: 650-700℃ Wide Temperature Range: 225-350℃ Conversion Ratio in 350℃ ≥ 90%

DPF Functions & Features

In the DPF substrate, the exhausts go into parallel channels, the exhausts must go through the ventilation hole wall because of the DPF substrate is one way opening. In this progress, the exhausts molecules will be filtered due to collision and gravity. In order to prevent substrate channel partially blocked, the CDPF is available to solve this problem but need to add a DOC in the front of CPDF.

SCR Functions

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is an advanced active emissions control technology system that injects a liquid-reductant agent (NH2-CO-NH2) have a thermal decomposition into NH3 by heating then converts nitrogen oxides into nitrogen, water.

The NOx in SCR has three simultaneous tasks: Standard Reaction:NH3+4NO+O2 -> 4H2+6H2O Rapid Reaction: 2NH3+NO+NO2 -> 2N2+3H20 Slow Reaction: 4NH3+2NO2+O2->3N2+6H2O
