Quality was high and so was demand at the annual Lleyn sale with six pens of shearlings over £200, ewe lambs to £140 and three tups over £1000.
Two great runs of flock aged ewes started the sale off well with Richard Turner of Payhembury selling two year old ewes
at £136, closely followed by Sue Redwood of Lifton with the same age at £135 as well as three year olds at £128 and four
year olds at £115 as Richard received £112 for his four year olds and both vendors made £92 of 5 year old ewes. The 42 older ewes averaged £117, up £24 on the year.
Some absolutely fantastic shearlings were well rewarded with a strong trade from a wide ranging array of new and regular,
local and travelled buyers. Six pens selling in excess of £200 to a top of £215 for regular consignors of quality Emrys &
Dylan Jones of Machynlleth, Powys, who sold their next pen at £210 and third at £188. Arfon Hughes of Gwynedd brought
quality that returned pens at £208, £195, £190 & £188, closely followed by local consignor Sue Redwood with shearlings
at £205, £192, £190 & £188, Twose Farms of Carmarthen sold their best at £202 and Ashton Selway of Stalbridge, Dorset
rang the bell at £200. Plenty of better end shearlings from £170 to £195, straight farming sorts from £145 to £168 and a
few showing signs of the desert like conditions of the Souith East back from that to give an overall average of £167.23, up
£25 on 2019.
Ewe lambs followed in the same vein with renown Cornish breeders John & Gill Adams of Truro taking the top spot at
£140 followed by Twose Farms at £128, Will Williams of Pwllheli, Gwynedd at £126 and near neighbour Wynne Davies
also of Pwllheli sold his best at £124. Very little under £100 and an overall average of £107.78 is some £28 better on the year.
A tight entry of rams provided a strong trade throughout with all but one finding a new home and levelling at £660.03,
which is up £68 on last year. The top five prices all came from Wales with the Lluest flock of Emrys & Dylan Jones having
bragging rights for the section when the pick of their pen made 1050gns closely followed by both Will Williams and Twose
Farms at 1000gns. Arfon Hughes claimed 900gns for his best and DW Morris of Carmarthenshire always brings a good
ram and made 850gns of it this year. Four rams at 800gns, two from vendors already mentioned but also for Westcountry
vendors relatively new to selling Lleyn rams at this fixture being Harpers Holdings of Holsworthy and DJ Searle of Helston
with a late ballot. Majority of rams selling between 500 and 750gns including the best of the aged rams which hit 700gns
twice, firstly for Richard Turner with a five year old ram and also for Wynne Davies with a two year old.

Store Lambs to £98 Breeding Ewes to £118 & Rams to £350 WFD Rams to 800gns & Ewes to £150
A similar number of store lambs were a dearer trade all round with forward sorts rising in line with the prime prices
reaching a top of £98 for forward lambs from the Warne family of Modbury who sold others at £85.50. Next top of
£96.50, £95 & £91 for similarly forward sorts from Mike Stanbury of Throwleigh and Emily Pearse of Colebrook sold her
best at £92.50 & £90. Also over £90 was Graham Doidge of Modbury with his best pen at £90.50 and then plenty of short
keep but by no means fit lambs from £78 to £89. Good medium to short keep lambs always £70 something and very few
small lambs less than £60, bar a few hill bred sorts that still looked well sold from upwards of £44. Overall average was up
over £3 to £69.03.
All genuine grazers forward were keenly contested to a top of £73 for Katherine Bassett of South Brent, others £60 and
Scotch ewes to £41.50.
A small selection of breeders saw rams reach £350 for the pick of Texel shearlings from Eric Gillbard of Thorverton who
also had a 6T at £200 and 4T at £220. Ewes to £118 and Dorset shearlings to £105 for John Stowers of Tedburn St Mary
as a pen of Hampshire single couples made £128 for Mike Brown of Shaftesbury.
The Annual sale of Whiteface Dartmoors met with a good commercial trade with all but a couple of rams changing hands.
Rams to a top of 800gns for Richard & Pete Mann of Widecombe who had another at 580gns as Chris & Clare Butcher of
Manaton reached 700gns with their best and Arthur & Rosemary Wrayford of Denbury made 550gns. Phil Abel of Tavistock
sold his shearlings at 450gns & 400gns with of plenty of others from 300-400gns including the best from Adam Henson of
Cheltenham who was here filmed by BBC Countryfile, so look out for that at the end of September! Females were a strong
trade for the best with others more commercial money. Top slot to Chris & Clare Butcher with a pair at £150 followed
by Ruth Endacott of Spreyton at £122 with a pen of five and Phillip & Christine Caunter of Harbertonford sold pairs at
£118 & £108. Older ewes to £82 for Phil Abel and £75 for Clyde Coaker of Widecombe whilst ewe lambs peaked £90
