FOREWORD
At Taylor’s University, we believe in providing the best exposure to our students in order to educate them to take their productive place as leaders in the global community. In order to achieve this, we continuously ensure that the facilities and programmes offered here are able to meet the needs of the 21st century learner and provide them the tools they need to be leaders of their own right. Initiatives such as the Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities and the 2nd Transcript or the SHINE Award pro-gramme were introduced as part of our ped-agogy as platforms that will enable our stu-
dents to fine-tune their soft skills and enhance their leadership qualities.
In addition to increasing the soft-skill aptitude of our students, we aim to provide our stu-dents with outstanding teaching and cutting edge learning facilities. All this is done with one objective: to produce successful gradu-ates who are first choice for leading employ-ers. We also help our students to graduate with the ambition and entrepreneurial skills to establish their own successful businesses.
It is our aspiration that through this initiative, our student will be able to become more im-pactful in their capabilities and be able to meet the challenges and demands of the working environment on completion of their degree.
Congratulations to the organising committee of the iLead Conference for bringing togeth-
er a distinguished panel of speakers that will definitely provide valuable insight to all the students.
To the esteemed speakers, thank you for your time and for sharing lessons that will add another dimension to our students’ educa-tion here at Taylor’s University. I hope all our students will benefit greatly from the insight shared during this event.

iLEAD, a hallmark event and core component of the Em-powerment Series under Learning Package 2: People and Leadership was designed to feature inspiring, expe-rienced and dynamic leaders of the world to motivate and encourage our students, in guiding them to realise their full potential as effective leaders. Through the iLE-AD Conference, every student will be provided with the opportunity to understand that leadership can be devel-oped.
Additionally, the Experiential Learning component of this learning package will see our students assuming lead-ership roles in various Student Organisations simulating corporate organisations. This experience will provide all students with the opportunity to put leadership theories and understanding into practice and achieve the goals set for it. Multiple avenues will also be provided for our students to work with teams and people from various backgrounds and nationalities.
We are confident that the SHINE Award Programme and specifically Learning Package 2: People and Leadership will not only expose our students to leadership princi-ples, but provide them with a plethora of opportunities
to put these principles into practice. Hence, completing this programme will position our students at an edge compared to other graduates!
The iLead Conference has come a long way since it was first established in 2015. Approaching the 4th iLEAD Conference today, we are grateful for the support we have received from our past and present speakers who have dedicated their time throughout.
The previous iLEAD Conferences has been such an inspiration to our participants that many have taken on a leadership position through various platforms. This year, I am pleased to announce that iLEAD Conferences 2016 are organised by LEAD 50, an exclusive student committee who have been working very hard to give you a memorable learning experience. Enjoy the conference and all the best in your SHINE journey!
Sincerely,Associate Professor Dr Tang Siew Fun,
Taylor’s University’s is driven by its core pur-pose which is to “educate the youth of the world to take their place as productive leaders in the global community”. Recognising the competitive-ness in the marketplace and identifying the need to produce highly employable graduates, the SHINE Award Programme was established to support the development of our students in the following four areas; Personal Development, People and Lead-ership, Professional Development and Global Engagement. Developing our students in the four areas will provide them with the essentials needed in demonstrating the right attitude, effective people skills and the abilities to adapt to a diverse culture.

MR JANARONSON NAGARAJAHHead, Life Skills Development. Taylor’s University
A- Aspire to become a leader who wants to make a positive difference B- Believe in yourself by developing your po-tential and understand what it takes to become the next influential leader C- Commit to your Aspirations and Believe by applying what you have learnt D- Daily disciplines in being faithful to the little things which matters E- Experiment with different life experiences and things to find the true path that suits you
iLEAD was developed with the fundamental aim of equipping all students with the right foundation and knowledge, application techniques and skills to prepare you with all aspects of leadership skills, in hopes of pre-paring you with the task of becoming effective leaders. By attending the iLEAD Conference, you have earned yourself the leading position as a learner and early ris-er. Throughout the conference, you will be inspired and develop the confidence to become a successful leader. The iLEAD Conference will teach you how to commit to your aspirations and believes, apply and practice what you have learnt so that it becomes engraved in your daily routine (daily disciplines).
This is why we carefully selected our distinguished speakers based on their experience, personal success
stories and proven track record in the area of leadership and especially in inspiring others to elevate themselves. I hope that you will pay great attention to each of their message conveyed so that your foundation in becoming an effective leader is moulded in.
Make use of this opportunity to widen your network of friends by identifying and leveraging on each other’s strengths and helping each other learn every day.
I would also like to take this opportunity to convey my sincere appreciation to my colleague Ms Laveenia Theertha Pathy from Life Skills Development who is the key anchor of the iLEAD Conference and also, the key Advisor for LEAD50. Our vision is to make iLEAD, a lead-ership conference like none other that will inspire and impact our students in all ways possible. I am glad to be able to see its fruitful impact today.
The world is in-need of more leaders who can make a positive difference by adding more value to the community and nation. Let that start with you.
All the best!
Sincerely,Mr Janaronson Nagarajah
Leadership does not require mechanisms as complex as rocket science. While there are different school of thoughts about leadership and wheth-er leaders are born or made, I for one believe that leaders are made. In one of my favourite leadership book, The Leadership Challenge by James Kou-zes and Barry Posner, it is mentioned that “We’ve never met a leader who wasn’t born. We’ve also never met an accountant, artist, athlete, engineer, lawyer, physician, writer or zoologist who wasn’t born. We’re all born. That’s a given. It’s what you do with what you have before you die that makes the difference.”
I believe with my whole heart that this is true and is something that can be acquired by any individual who has the heart to learn. In my simple way, it can be as easy as ABCDE. All you have to do is:-

The past year has been quite a journey for LEAD 50. From conceptualising an entire conference to planning the logistics, finding sponsors, publicising to finally de-livering a conference in barely four months; and then to do it all over again, I’d say we’ve had quite a ride. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it was a difficult task, yet one made easier by the dedication of each member of our team, not just to our own roles, but to the success of the iLEAD Conference; OUR iLEAD Conference, and even more so to the tireless guidance, support and ef-fort given to us by Ms Laveenia Theertha Pathy and Mr Janaronson Nagarajah of the Life Skills Department, who never once failed to encourage us when in doubt, and to pick us up when we slacked off. Nonetheless, we have travelled, learnt, and experienced the most of what we could by taking the initiative and grabbing the opportunity presented us; to be a part of LEAD 50.
Now the time has come for us to pass on our mantle to those brave enough to take up the challenge of or-ganising the esteemed iLEAD Conferences for the year 2017.
I must warn you that it will take your time and effort, and most of all, your unending commitment to persevere and successfully launch two iLEAD Conferences. But I also tell you this: should you take this initiative, you will find the best of mentors in Ms Laveenia and Mr Ronson, and you will have the opportunity to learn, experience and network as well as develop skills that will last your entire life.
Last but not least, our utmost appreciation goes out to all the speakers and sponsors who have supported us throughout this year 2016, and believing in our mission and vision. We could not have made it without them.
Once more shall I present you the iLEAD Conference, the brainchild of Life Skills Development (LSD), and the pride of LEAD 50, who have poured heart and soul into making this possible.
So sit back, relax, and prepare to be inspired!
Sincerely,Zachary Sean Sia

The iLEAD Conference themed, “Initiating Future Leaders” was developed for the SHINE Award Programme as a core component of the Empower-ment Series under Learning Package 2: People and Leadership. The conference is a platform aimed to provide SHINE Participants as well as every Taylor’s University student with the opportunity to understand every individual can develop the atti-tude, skills and competencies relevant to become a good leader.
Taylor’s University through various initiatives, intends to expose students to a multitude of curric-ulum outside of the classroom by helping them de-velop skills relevant to the working world, in order for them to take their productive place as leaders in the global community.
The one-day conference was developed to expose students to renowned leaders who are willing to share inspirational stories ranging from Personal Leadership, Leading Others and Inspiring Action.
The three key topics above will inspire students to think outside the box, encourage them to ignite an idea and explore innovative ways to initiate the idea in pursuit of a significant impact. The five ‘i’s’ are crucial words towards the making of an effective leader.
The iLEAD Conference is organised by Taylor’s University’s Life Skills Development with the sup-port of SHINE Award Centre. The key objectives of the iLEAD Conference are:
1. Distinguish Personal Leadership from Leading Others2. Understand qualities of an Effective Leader and how they culturally adapt to different environments3. Find inspiration through various real life success story examples from exemplary industry leaders 4. Encourage a mind of critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and innovation.

After 8 years in the Banking industry, mostly involved in consumer banking and e-banking, I took the plunge to venture out on my own. My first foray into Food & Beverage was setting up Malaysia’s first “cupcakery” in the year 2008 where I obtained franchise status. The brand is trademarked and a household name in Malaysia, with over 100,000 fans on Facebook, grown mostly organically with minimal advertising.
What drives me to action is that the fear of missing an opportunity is usually larger than the fear of failing.
With that, I recently co-founded “Happy Bunch” in 2014, an e-commerce online flower delivery business that has revolutionalize the way people send flowers. With simplicity at our core, we have carved out a blue ocean for ourselves, being the first and biggest of its kind in Malaysia and creating a new consumer habit of sending #justbecauseflowers.

Khoo Cai Lin, one of the best swimmers that Malaysia has produced in recent years, has represented our coun-try at prestigious international tournaments such as the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and the SEA Games throughout her swimming career. Having recently graduated with a double degree major in Public Relations and Mass Communications at Tay-lor’s University, Cai Lin’s bond with swimming began when she was at the age of three and was eventually selected for the national team at 2003.
Cai Lin has represented Malaysia for the past 13 years, and has served an illustrious swimming career. An ever present for our country, she has competed at every SEA Games since the 2003 edition in Hanoi, Vietnam, hav-ing a total of four golds, seven silvers and five bronz-es to her name. The national swimmer from Selangor competed in the 400m and 800m freestyle events at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as the 800m free-style event at the 2012 London Olympics. Moreover, she also donned the national colours at the 2010 Delhi and 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2010 Guangzhou and 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
The current national record holder of the 200m but-terfly, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 800m free-style swimming categories, Cai Lin, was the winner of the Olympian of the Year 2007 award bestowed by the Olympic Council of Malaysia as well as a five time win-ner of Selangor’s Sportswoman of the Year award.
Currently, Cai Lin is helping to nurture the next gen-eration of Malaysian swimmers in her role as part-time swimming coach. Success is something that the nation-al swimmer does not take for granted. She lists deter-mination, discipline and being goal driven as factors to her success as a swimmer and also encourages the younger generation in their pursuit of success in sports with a simple yet truthful advice: “Never give up”.
