Dear Fellow Brother Knights, As we go into another new year for our council, I would like to say thank you, the members, for your confidence that has been placed in your elected officers who were officially installed last July 23rd. We will strive to continue to grow not only in membership, but in our programs as well, to maintain the status of our council active and in the forefront of the church and community relations. In the months ahead, we will be faced with many activities and projects and I have no doubt we will once again see them through to a successful completion. Last year, we were joined in by 47 new brother knights, most under the age of 45. To help attain our goals for this year, I encourage the younger members to step up and take a more active part in the life of our council and thus, strengthening the bonds between ourselves (old and new members), the Church and the Community. I am open to using fresh thoughts and ideas to work with. You could be pleasantly surprised to see how helping others as well as your church and community is a satisfying achievement not only for those you help, but to yourself as well, where the only reward is self- gratification. Working together, we will make this year another interesting and vibrant year. Vivat Jesus !

July 23, 2011 Worthy Grand Knight Edgar, Officers and Members of Archbishop Duke Council 6855: I bring you greetings from our Supreme Knight Carl Anderson and State Deputy Wil Wilmot.
To many of you, I need no introduction but for the newer members I have been a past Grand Knight of this council and a former District Deputy. I have also served in other capacities for State Council and as Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree. It is an honor to be recalled by the State Deputy to be a district deputy again and I hope to measure up to his confidence and expectations in this Columbian year. The work and achievements made by your council over the past year are impressive and must be an envy not only for many other councils in this jurisdiction but for those of the whole order. Such success cannot only come from a group of very dedicated officers but also from wide spread interest and participation of your membership at large. It is important that you keep this momentum going so that you can continue to make outstanding achievements and at the same time encourage other councils to follow. As you set examples for others, we must remember that lending a hand and sharing our time to bring up the less able and less active councils is in the true spirit of charity, unity and fraternity, the principles on which our order is founded. Although July and August are usually the slow months in the fraternal calendar it is important that membership activities be maintained. As your District Deputy, I am always available to assist you in whatever endeavors you have in mind for the fraternal year. Keeping active is the key and I congratulate you for this. With God’s grace and the love of Mother Mary, our patroness, there is no stopping where we can go in our work of serving our church and community. Vivat Jesus Kim Ng District Deputy #23

Another Way We Protect Spouses
As a member, you know how important spouses can be to the charitable works of the Order. If
you’re married, your wife is probably involved in a few of the many events that happen each
fraternal year. This support adds great value and impact to what a council can achieve.
When the Order was founded in 1882, Father Michael J. McGivney and the other brave men were
setting out to protect Catholic families, but especially wives and children. We know today this is
done through our insurance products which are designed with that goal in mind. One specific policy
rider that you may not know about is called Spousal Waiver of Premium. This rider is unique to the
Knights of Columbus philosophy of helping our widows.
This rider is available on most permanent and Discoverer plans purchased at standard rates by a
member and his wife on the same day. When both spouses apply, the rider provides for waiver of
premiums on the spouse’s contract in the event of the insured’s death. Best of all, for members and
spouses ages 18 to 60, this waiver can be added for no charge. The rider stays in effect until the
spouse attains age 65 or certain other triggering events occur.
Our products are designed with your needs and budget in mind. With a solid portfolio of life
insurance, long-term care insurance, disability income insurance and retirement products, the
Knights of Columbus can help you meet all of your financial goals. To learn more about these
solutions, contact me today.

2011 - Our Lady of Guadalupe
SSSSilver RRRRose RRRRun – One Life, One Rose
Since May 1, 2011, three Silver Roses have been making their way across North America, from Canada
to the United States to Mexico. The Roses began their run and will conclude their journey on Dec. 12,
2011, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, at the Basilica of Our Lady of
Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico.
It is the 51st year of the program which began in 1960 as a project of the Columbian Squires of North
America to honour the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the
Americas. The program has continued since then as a project of Squires Circles, councils and Fourth
Degree assemblies in several jurisdictions.
In 2001 Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson expanded the program by beginning the “Running of the Rose”
from the 119th Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council in Toronto. “The ‘Running of the Rose’ is a
perfect program for the Knights of Columbus,” said Supreme Knight Anderson. “Through it we honour not
only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the Order, but we also reaffirm the Order’s
dedication to the sanctity of human life. It is to the Blessed Mother that we turn in prayer as we work to
end the Culture of Death that grips our society. As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most
appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the
miracle of the roses.”
Today three Silver Roses travel through North America exemplifying Knights of Columbus devotion to Our
Lady and commitment to the Culture of Life.
One Rose begins its journey in Ontario moving through the central United States. A second Rose starts
its route in Manitoba, moving westward to British Columbia and then down the Pacific coast through
California before turning eastward to Arizona and New Mexico. The third Rose moves from New York,
moving through the eastern United States and the Gulf coast.
Archbishop Duke Council 6855 was fortunate to have the Silver Rose on July 23, 2011 at St. Paul Parish.
Prayers and Handover Ceremony was done on the night of the Installation of Officers.
State Deputy for BC and Yukon Knights, Wil Wilmot will transfer the Silver Rose to State Deputy for
Washington Knights on July 24, 2011 at Peace Arch US-Canada Border Crossing.

ORDER MOURNS PASSING OF SUPREME SECRETARY EMILIO MOURE
The Knights of Columbus mourns the loss of Supreme Secretary Emilio B. Moure, who passed away at his
Connecticut home on July 23rd after a battle with cancer. He was 54 years old and had served as
Supreme Secretary of the Order of the Knights of Columbus until his death.
Moure joined the Knights in January 1985, and was a member of James Cardinal McIntyre Council 6332 and
Santiago de Compostela Assembly in California. He served in all elected offices of the California jurisdiction, and as
state deputy from 2006-2007. In 2006, the delegates to the 124th Supreme Convention in Orlando, Florida, elected
him to the Board of Directors.
He began working at the Supreme Council headquarters in April 2007 as Executive Vice President for Business
Process Management. In that position, he oversaw the updating and modernizing of business practices at the
Supreme Council. In October 2009, he was appointed Supreme Treasurer, and then in September 2010 he was
named Supreme Secretary
“We mourn deeply the loss of an exemplary Catholic gentleman and proud Knight of Columbus, who was also a
dedicated husband, father and grandfather” said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson. “Emilio was a trusted colleague
and a good friend who always had the growth and welfare of the Order at heart. In his time at the Supreme Council
headquarters, he was a dynamic force for improving and updating all of our operations. His business expertise, wise
judgment and, most of all, his collegiality, kindness and deep faith will truly be missed.”
Born in Havana, Cuba, Moure came to the United States at the age of 11 with his family. He received a bachelor’s
degree in business administration with a major in accounting from the University of Long Beach and a master’s
degree in business administration with a concentration in executive management from the University of La Verne.
He enjoyed a successful 23-year career with the Emerson Electric Co., holding senior management positions in
accounting, marketing, operations and general management in domestic and international locations.
He spoke Spanish and helped to organize and implement the Order’s Hispanic programs, such as the Marian
Congress on Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Guadalupe Festival, held at the conclusion of the 2009 Supreme
Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the Supreme Council’s liaison to the Order’s councils in Cuba, and helped
revitalize the Knights of Columbus there in time for the centennial of Columbianism in Cuba in 2009. He was
instrumental in the Supreme Council’s support for the construction of San Carlos y San Ambrosio Seminary, the first
new seminary to open in Cuba in half a century. A lifelong dream of his was realized when, in November 2010,
Moure was part of a delegation from the Supreme Council which traveled to Cuba to participate in the dedication of
the seminary.
Moure was also instrumental in forging the Order’s relationship with the Global Wheelchair Mission, which provides
free wheelchairs to needy individuals in many countries around the world, and also was a leader in the Knights’
recovery efforts in Haiti after the devastating earthquake in January 2010. He served on the boards of National
Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) and KWTV in Mexico, where he helped to develop a positive television
alternative for the Mexican market.
Moure was invested in 2001 to the Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. In 2005, he was presented with the
Pilgrim Shell by The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Michel Sabbah in Jerusalem, and in 2008, he received
the rank of Knight Commander with Star from His Eminence John Patrick Cardinal Foley, then Grand Master of the
Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem SOURCE: KofC Supreme Website
