“When The Glory of God Fills The House” II Chronicles 5:1-14

Whether in the tabernacle in the wilderness (Ex. 33:9; 40:34-38) or in Solomon’s temple (here), the glory of the Lord filled the house. His glory was the result of His people making specific responses to Him. God’s glory is a demonstration of God’s favor and approval. What is happening in the church that would result in the glory of the Lord filling the house?

I. The PROVISION OF GOD is received and acknowledged (v.1b “Solomon brought in the things that David, his father, had dedicated and put them in the treasuries of the house of God.”) - cf. I Chronicles 29:3

Who receives glory (honor, recognition) for what you have? Who receives glory for what your church has?

II. The PRESENCE OF GOD is welcomed and anticipated (v. 7 “The priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to it’s place, into the inner sanctuary of the house to the holy of holies, under the wings of the cherubim.”) - cf. Psalm 26:8

Where the ark was, God was. Does God have the pre-imminent place in your church?...or in

your life?

III. The PRECEPTS OF GOD are presented and accepted. (v.10 “There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets which Moses put there at Horeb where the Lord made a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.”) - cf. Psalm 119:105

God’s Word stands forever! God’s Word doesn’t just “shed a little light” on the subject… it is

the subject!

IV. The PRAISE OF GOD is spontaneous and amplified. (v.13a “In uni-son… the trumpets and the singers were to make themselves heard with one voice to praise and to glorify the Lord…”) - cf. Psalm 150:1, 6

We can praise Him with instruments. We can praise Him with our voices.

“Then the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud (i.e. the “Shekinah glory of God”), so that the priests could not stand to minister be-cause of the cloud, for THE GLORY OF THE LORD FILLED THE HOUSE OF GOD.” (vv. 13b-14) — rrc

Our unusually mild winter has passed. Spring has sprung and summer is nearly upon us. Every year brings both routine and surprises. This is a year for us to settle in to another house. We didn’t know that was going to hap-pen but God uniquely provided for us to change our address. We now live at 1313 Castle Creek. This is also a year in which we are resuming our Annual Spring Cookout for all our Pastors and their wives (Friday, May 4, 6:30 p.m). The summer holds great opportunity for all our churches to reach out to families through Vacation Bible School, church camps, mission trips and much more. When I think about all the communities in which our churches are located, I am reminded of the Apostle Paul’s words in Romans 10:1 “Brethren, my hearts desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salva-tion.” I pray that this would be a very fruitful summer—that souls will be saved, believers will be revived, marriages will be restored, families and churches will be strengthened and God’s Kingdom will come on earth as it is in Heaven. This is the only 2012 we will ever have. May we have greater sensitivity than ever to the mighty work of God in us and around us. Join me in praying for a powerful movement of God in our churches and in our nation. We need it so badly! Encouragingly Yours, Russell R. Cook

WM&M NEWS PLBA Women’s Missions & Ministries

BGCO LADIES’ RETREAT, FALLS CREEK REPORT: It was exciting to see a good number of ladies from our Association attending the state Ladies’ Retreat at Falls Creek on April 13-14. The program and conferences were good…the fellowship was fun…the weather was pleas-ant…and we’re already looking forward to next year’s retreat, scheduled for April 19-20, 2013!

BLANKET THE STATE REMEMBER: Children’s homes, crisis pregnancy centers, nursing homes, shel-ters for children/women/homeless, firemen & policeman for emergency needs, invalids, retirement centers, disaster relief, hospital hospitality houses…you name it! These and more are all ongoing needs for constant supplies of blan-kets! These are need-related year ‘round, not cold-weather related! Ours carry the Gospel message to those who have so many needs! Contact Marsha Cook at [email protected] for how YOU can help!

BOOK NOOK FEATURING THIS MONTH: Our PLBA Resource Center has available for check-out two very special teaching kits for a facilitator to use with small groups of moms, both written by speaker and author, Vicki Courtney. These meet needs of moms of children from the cradle to college. There is a video DVD with each and one sample Member’s Book with a Leader’s Guide (you may order addi-tional Member’s Books for your group from LifeWay). Each includes a Church Promo Segment and six (6) sessions. The titles are:

5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter 5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Son

A NUGGET FROM MY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY… In the 11 months since Mother went home to live with the Lord and Daddy

in Heaven I have continued to learn things not really visible before those times. One is that God truly IS our source of peace and comfort in the time of sorrow and “loss.” Even though there are still tears from time to time…or I still find my-self wanting to go tell one of them something special…or there are still things in my home that trigger memories, that peace that passes all understanding is in my heart! A secular organization recently sent me a mailing designed to suppos-edly help me get through my grief. If what they said was all I had to depend upon, I would feel so empty. Sadly, I realized once again how little the world understands the hope, peace, and comfort we have in Christ.

Interestingly, even though my parents no longer live on Earth, their legacy does! I am currently preparing conference materials to teach soon and have seen again that the mentoring I received throughout a lifetime in my parents’ household has not ended with their lives. Instead, I continue to teach and share what they taught me about how to live and how to die. Reflecting upon our final months together has reminded me that when you really live well for Christ in your active years, then you are much better equipped to die with a release of worldly interests and an embracing of the promised hope we have in Him as believers. Living well is the necessary prelude for dying well.

When you suddenly find yourself being the “older generation” in your family, there comes with that a heightened accountability to live out the legacy you have received in the passing of the baton. The fragility of life is more real than ever before. Heaven is more precious than ever before. The hope of hearing, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,” is more motivating than ever before!

My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead. Not that I have already reached the goal or am already fully mature, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of Christ Jesus…one thing I do: For-getting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus…we should live up to whatever truth we have attained. (Philippians 3:10-16 HCSB)
