Part three of our sampler throw pattern by Judy Furlong has instructions for the large centre panel and short inner borders Bramble Throw SIZE Finished size 128cm square Block D 36cm square Short inner borders 4cm wide x 36cm long YARN Stylecraft Life Aran (Aran weight; 75% acrylic, 25% wool; 198m/100g balls) A Crocus (2343) 2 x 100g balls B Mulberry (2345) 5 x 100g balls C Fuchsia (2344) 5 x 100g balls D Raspberry Marl (2347) 5 x 100g balls NEEDLES & ACCESSORIES 1 pair 5mm (UK 6/US 8) knitting needles Cable needle (cn) Waste yarn TENSION 18 sts and 24 rows to 10cm over st st after light steaming, using 5mm needles. THE CENTREPIECE of Judy Furlong’s sampler throw is a stunning cable panel with thick, twisting braids in an unusual design. The large square panel contrasts beautifully with the smaller cable and moss squares surrounding it. Judy presents the instructions for this panel here in the third instalment of our subscriber-only knitalong pattern. This instalment also has written instructions for the short inner borders that separate the nine sections of the throw. These borders feature a laddered lace pattern which is also shown in Chart G. For stockists and abbreviations, see p91 BLOCK D Make 1 block using yarn A. Cast on 76 sts. Work from chart D until all 92 rows have been completed. Stitch count will vary between rows as you work the cable patt. Cast off. SHORT INNER BORDERS Make 6 alike. Using yarn D and working from chart G, cast on 8 sts. Work in Lace pattern as foll: Row 1: K1, SSK, yo, Tw2, yo, K2tog, K1. Row 2: Purl. Repeat these two rows 45 more times. Cast off. v SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS C6B: Sl 3 sts to cn, hold at back, K3; K3 from cn C8B: Sl 4 sts to cn, hold at back, K4; K4 from cn C8F: Sl 4 sts to cn, hold at front, K4; K4 from cn K2togcn: Sl 3 sts onto cn, hold at back, (knit 1 st from LH needle together with 1 st from cn) 3 times M1P: Make 1 st by picking up the loop lying between the sts on the right and left needles, and purl into the back of it Tw2: Twist 2 sts. Knit the second st on the LH needle without removing it, knit the first st on the LH needle, then slip both sts off together. Using yarn D and working from chart G,

Work in Lace pattern as foll:

Row 1: K1, SSK, yo, Tw2, yo, K2tog, K1.

Row 2: Purl.

Repeat these two rows 45 more times.

needle, then purl the original st.

LincP: Insert tip of RH needle into loop at base of
