where the quantity of work done has varied by 25% as the change exceeds 1% of

the Contract Price.

processing as payment.

COMPUTAION OF VARIATIONS IN SUBSTRUCTURE WORKS(TUITION AND ADMINISTRATION BLOCKS)

Preamble: The Contract Bills of Quantities provided for excavation in red soil

on Page ADM/1 and TB/1. However, the excavation to reduce levels and

excavation to receive column bases and strip footings was in hard rock and soft

rock respectively.

In this regard, we seek to confirm the following:-

(i) The volume for excavating surfaces to reduce levels not exceeding300mm in soft rock is 49.42m by 43.89m = 2,169.04 square metres. The

excavation extended to the parking lot, an area of 553.06 square metres

(ii) The rates provided in the Bills of Quantity are for excavating in red soil.The actual case is excavating in hard and soft rock.

(iii) The excavation in hard rock to receive column bases varies from thedescription which provided for excavation in red soil.

(iv) The proposed site for the administration and tuition blocks was on asloppy location calling for substantive excavations exceedingprovisions in the Bills of Quantity by percentages tabulated below.

(v) The Contract provides in Clause 21.2 that:If the final quantity of the work done differs from the quantity in

the Bills of Quantities for the particular item by 25% and provided

the change exceeds 1% of the initial Contract Price, the Project

Manager shall adjust the rate to allow for the change

(vi) For purposes of Clause 21.2, 1% of the Contract Price is Kshs.2,671,414.00

Attached are the site re-measurements and corresponding claims for payment.
