When you work in a field as evolving and unique as computer games, you need to have passion and a flair for spotting the next big hit.As the publishing arms of distributor Contact Sales, Excalibur and First Class Simulations have seen the cyclical path of the games industry many times over in the last 15 years, with some memorable titles such as Farming Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator – franchises that are still as strong today as they ever were. First Class Simulations was a leading publisher of enhancement software for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator and Train Simulator until the sudden withdrawal from this market by Microsoft. Moth-balled for a few years the re-emergence of these simulators from Dovetail has breathed new life into add-on products via a new digital delivery platform and once again we see these products back in demand.

The role of Excalibur in the games arena has advanced and developed over the last few years from re-publisher of licensed titles to developer to sponsor of Indie games developers, helping new and emerging young developers achieve their objectives on the world stage. With digital delivery going from strength to strength with a world-wide reach at the touch of a keyboard, selling product in this highly competitive market place presents new challenges on an almost daily basis.

…helping new and emerging developers…

We welcome contact from new Indie developers to see how we can help shape their games and ideas; our in-house project team are themselves passionate gamers who seem to have a bottomless pit of ideas to challenge the developer and garner interest from the consumer.

We are looking forward to an Indie year in 2016 with a number of fantastically original games, some retro ideas and an expansion to the simulation range.

One such title that has proven to be a massive hit in the digital area is Shoppe Keep, a medieval shop management game requiring a savvy business brain to sell the most desired swords, spells and potions. It’s incredible fun and addictive to play.

Searching out new talent has also led us to achieve a Sony development contract to bring some of these exciting new projects to console and hand-held platforms. It’s a first for Excalibur, raising the bar yet again with our innovative approach. We will be launching our first Sony products during the first quarter of 2016 and we believe that we will be offering some fresh ideas coupled with the gameplay today’s consumer demands.

We’ve put together this digital catalogue that gives a taste of some of the Indie products I have talked about and also some new projects we have in development ourselves. I hope you will share some of my excitement for the games we have in store.

Best wishes

World Ship Simulator is now on Early Access courtesy of a brand new development team charged with taking the best elements of Excalibur’s first foray into the ship simulation genre and expanding and refining the gameplay with a view to quickly establishing the game as the go-to ship simulation title on PC and Mac. Using Unity 5, the new development team has brought together a number of features designed to stimulate the die-hard enthusiast. These include a brand new career mode with complete missions that are challenging to complete and truly develop the player’s experience. The open-world environment allows for sailing between the three ports that are available with this Early Access version. Further development will expand the ability to sail from port to port in a totally free-roam world. Content includes three new vessels – tugboat, fishing boat and a hovercraft together with three remodelled ships from European Ship Simulator. In Free Play mode you can set sail immediately around your environment and practice the handling of all vessels in random weather conditions. As well as battling against the elements such as rain or fog, the water physics will set a more dynamic challenge. An essential feature of all good simulations is the career mode as it develops the players experience and sense of ownership. Here there are a variety of missions which increase in difficulty as you develop your skill set and unlock further missions to build your career. We listened to the reviews for European Ship Sim to find out exactly what players wanted and based on this feedback have introduced AI crews who are all interactive. You can also inspect the damage you may have caused your vessel and see what impact this has on your career.

From one of the developers for the incredible Formula 1 franchise (2012 to 2014), Greg Pryjmachuk introduces a unique driving simulator experience.

Jalopy is set shortly after the fall of the Berlin wall and plunges you into the austere and gritty reality of East Germany. Players will need to maintain a classic ‘lemon’ of a car, the Jalopy, as they drive through 1990’s Europe taking their uncle back to his home town.

The rise of capitalism means that currency is no longer accepted and the player must begin to use their wits to make money. This includes scavenging for parts and smuggling contraband into several regions to sell at a high profit. Depending on the players actions, they may be at risk from border patrol guards searching for banned exports.

The old Jalopy that your uncle has entrusted you with requires constant attention to keep it roadworthy. There are millions of component configurations, ranging from engines and carburettors to tyres. It’s a game full of surprises, intrigue and an entrancing, surreal atmosphere.
