CEng QUALIFYING REPORT To be used by all applicants and existing members for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Complete the report electronically where possible; please visit www.aerosociety.com/membership. Guidance on completing this form is given on the next page. This report gives you the opportunity to demonstrate you meet the competence and commitment standards in UK-SPEC and provides the assessors who interview you with an idea of your strengths and weaknesses. Please attach the following documents as Appendices A to G to this report: A. Copies of all your qualifications including a Notification of Performance for HND / HNC qualifications. Include also a translation if any qualification that is not in English and legal evidence of any change to your surname if it has changed since you obtained them. B. An organisation chart of your company and your position in it. C. Title of any professional development scheme completed, company name and start and end dates. D. A list of relevant training courses attended. E. A list of papers produced (if applicable). F. A Development Action Plan (to show your plans for continuing professional development in the short, medium and long term) – visit www.aerosociety.com/membership for guidance. G. Account of a technical task (include title and details of your role and achievements. Max 2 pages). Print the report and appendices, together with the application form, on one side of paper only; do not staple or bind anything. Please submit both documents with THREE photocopies of each; they may be printed on both sides of paper and stapled or bound. GUIDANCE ON COMPLETING THE REPORT
This report is divided into Standards A – E as given in UK-SPEC and there are sub-headings for each one. Different aspects of your qualifications, work experience and professional development can apply to several sub-headings. Give evidence for each sub-heading.
StandardA should contain reference to your degree, diploma certificates or Licenses together with reference to other courses you have attended which have enhanced your underpinning theoretical knowledge.
StandardB is essentially about the application of theoretical competence into type / equipment specific detail. Please give examples of what engineering work you actually perform andforwhichyouholdindividualpersonalresponsibility, e.g. part of a team, team leader, sole responsibility or joint author.
StandardC (specifically C2) asks for examples of budgetary oversight. This can be fulfilled, even if you do not personally hold a budget, by being involved in for example, forecasting staff-hours or parts replacement options. C3 and C4 enable you to demonstrate competence in selecting, interviewing, motivating and mentoring staff for whom you are responsible.
StandardD requires you to give examples of presenting or working with information to the many levels of aerospace engineering interface. Include examples of any kind of presentation or talk given, whether at work or in social situations.
StandardE should include examples of how you plan to develop as a Professional Engineer; this should be backed up by your Development Action Plan. In addition, you should recognise that professionals of any kind should have the willingness and competence to support society in general (be it in a professional capacity or getting involved in activities in your local area) and you will be expected during the interview to give examples of what you do or plan to do.
Theportfolioofevidence which you should bring to the interview should contain the actual evidence to support the statements in the Qualifying Report. It should include your original degree, diploma certificates or License, log books or records kept while on a Professional Development Scheme, technical drawings, sketches, calculations, design drawings, budget spreadsheets, handouts of presentations given, and technical reports or other reports written for your employer. Please ensure your evidence is not commercially confidential, classified or restricted.
