What are nutrients?• Nutrients are chemical elements that all living organisms
need to grow.
Effects of Nutrient Pollution• When too many nutrients, mainly nitrogen and
phosphorus, are added to water, they can act like fertilizer, causing excessive growth of algae - eutrophication.
• Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus in water can:– cause health problems, – damage the environment and – impact the economy.
