EXAMINED PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Sports Leaders Level 1GCSE Physical EducationBtec Level 2 First in Sport
Dance
LEVEL 1
• Is an accredited course, where you get a certificate and badge, can go on your personal statement for 6th form.
• Means you have to plan, organise, run events with younger students.
• It will start after Easter in Year 10, during your PE lessons.
• You have the choice whether you want to do it or not.• It leads to the Level 2 Award at 6th form or the
Leadership Academy in year 10 & 11 in school.
GCSE PE• Is an extra 3 hours of PE per week.• 2 hours of theory work.• 1 hour of practical• The course is made up of 4 units.• 2 practical and 2 theory.• You will be assessed in performing and
understanding in your 4 best sports.• You will have a two hour exam at the end of
year 11 in the two theory units.• You can submit sports that we cannot do in
school such as swimming, horseriding, golf.• You can be assessed on coaching and
officiating.
• 75% coursework divided into 3 units.• 25% examination taken at the end of year 11 in
Fitness For Sport and Exercise.• Other units include Practical Performance, Anatomy
& Physiology and Leading Sports Activities.• You will have to produce written assignments for all
coursework units.• It is graded Pass (C), Merit (B) & Distinction (A) and
is worth the same as a single GCSE.
Who would enjoy the studying PE?
• Those that enjoy all kinds of sport.• Those that have an interest on sport, play it,
watch it, read about it.• Those that are interested in how the body works
and why it reacts in different ways to exercise.• Those that are self motivated and enthusiastic.
DANCE
• Do you enjoy dancing?• Do you do any form of Dance outside of
school?• Have you ever performed before?• OR• Would you like to learn to Dance?……….maybe a dance option is for you???????
DANCE OPTIONS:
AQA GCSE DANCE• This course involves a large majority
of practical work but also theory work.
• It is based on the contemporary dance style.
• You will learn a solo, a group piece and also have to choreograph a solo and group dance.
• You will study 2 professional dance productions and write about them in a written exam.
BTEC PERFORMING ARTS AWARD DANCE• A practical qualification based on real
life dance scenarios.• You will complete 3 units in which
you will perform different styles of dance and create your own piece!
• There is no formal written exam, instead you will complete written tasks and complete a dance diary.
• You will also choreograph your own dance for a imaginary audition.
If you choose dance you will……
…need to attend one extra-curricular club per week…be expected to perform in an annual dance show…have the opportunity to perform in the school production…go on at least one trip to watch some dance
…improve your fitness, gain confidence and have fun!!!!!
