Citron ENG 4U Exam Format Open Book. Bring all major works: Hamlet, Brave New World, and Teacher’s Choice (The Great Gatsby or Our Town) . All annotations in the text are allowed. No papers or notes taped into the text allowed. Part One: Contextual Questions You will have a choice of two passages. Answer one question (one passage) from each work of Hamlet, Brave New World. For each passage, write a passage analysis in paragraph form including the context, the explanation and the significance of the quotation. In your analysis, make sure to use the details in the passage to illustrate the characters, images, conflicts, etc., in the work as a whole and how these contribute to the broader themes of the work. You will discuss the passage itself and use specific quotations from other parts of the text to explore the significance of the passage and illustrate your understanding of the text as a whole. Teacher’s Choice Question: Our Town You will discuss the significance of a mandatory passage (no choice) from the text. You will also bring in one quotation from any other text we studied this year (short stories, poems included) that generated a moment of epiphany for you and provided you with a deeper understanding or different perspective on the world. Be prepared to discuss this quotation. Part Two: Comparative Essay You will have a choice of two essay questions. You may use any two texts to support your thesis in your essay. You must generate a clear and significant thesis statement. You must have a balanced discussion.
