Message from the President Vanessa Davis | Broadway/San Diego
It’s (Already?) the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…
*Blink* Well, hello December! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and are enjoying a wonderful start to the Holiday Season. I want to express appreciation to Zelda Waxenberg and her team at member firm, Bottles and Wood, for hosting our November Chapter Meeting where we kicked off some
holiday shopping and were treated to fun, informative public speaking and presentation tips by Jenni Prisk and Zackary Albrecht from Prisk Communication.
In Case You Missed It… In our chapter updates, we announced a long overdue increase for chapter meeting fees. Effective January 1, 2017, the new rates will be $55 for Active Members and $48 for Sustaining and Life Members. For a full recap of the November meeting highlights, please see pages 3-4.
EWI Gives Back… Our first “ASIST With Gifts” gift card drive was a great success with gift cards and services going to our ASIST scholarship winner, Lisa , and her daughters for the holidays. Thank you so much for your participation and donations. I know we’ve made a difference! To honor the legacy of our own Adele Asmer, for whom our Literacy Award is named, we will be collecting non-perishable food items at our December Chapter Meeting/Holiday Hoopla Fundraiser. We hope you will join us on MONDAY, December 12th, at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. It’s sure to be a great event!

Last month’s meeting was hosted by Zelda Waxenberg at member firm, Bottles and Wood. It was fascinating to see how they turn recycled wood, liquor, beer, soda and wine bottles into custom glassware, lighting, furniture…even jewelry! Our drinks and delicious dinner was served in their unique glassware and on beautiful wooden serving platters. We also enjoyed a lively and informative presentation from Jenni Prisk and Zackary Albrecht of Prisk Communication. We learned how to polish and improve our public performance through audience engagement, verbal and body language, and many more useful tips. To learn more, please visit www.prisk.com.

Chapter News and Notes MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Vanessa Davis | Broadway/San Diego [Continued from Page 1]
We Have a Winner… Colette Morel of Manpower was the winner of our $100 Member Referral Drawing prize. Congratulations, Colette! Could You Be Next? We have updated our Referral Program and Member Category “wish list.” For more information, and to find out how to get started on our “Decembership Membership Drive,” please see page 9. EWI Spells Family (It does…look it up!) Yes, networking is great. Yes, the career-focused programs are informative and invaluable, but I must take this opportunity to highlight the support and care we have for one another as family. November brought an early (read: super early) morning Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness & Survivor Walk, supporting Past President and Survivor Margie Wilson of Flagship Cruises and Events. We also celebrated Past President Besse Dozadiaz, of Ferris & Britton, in anticipation of the birth of her son, Adam, who will make his debut in January. And, on a more somber note, we came together for Past President, Tracey Amernick, of Cohn Restaurant Group, for a beautiful Celebration of Life and Memorial for her husband and dear friend of EWI, Chris Agrippe. He will be greatly missed. Through thought, deed, words and action, this Chapter has a strong commitment to support one another and we are SO lucky for it. Looking Ahead… As we start the process of closing out the year and outlining personal goals, (I can’t be the only one still rolling a full cart of loose groceries to their car because I can’t remember my bags and, you’re welcome, environment!) or, if you are already designing your professional goals for 2017, remember to take a look at our Membership Directory. We have a wealth of knowledge and services…right here…in our EWI family.
Until next time, have a safe and wonderful Holiday Season!
Vanessa Davis 2016-2017 EWI of San Diego Chapter President Broadway/San Diego P.S. Mark your calendars! November 15th is our Firm Night at Bottles and Wood and our Holiday Fundraiser/Chapter Meeting has been moved to MONDAY, December 12th at Tom Ham’s. Look for a separate email with information about our “Novembership Drive” and some fun ways EWI of San Diego will be giving
back to our community over the holidays. See you soon!
