Dedicated vServer - How computing is allocated?

===

• One-for-One• 1 vCPU = Equiv Physical Core (cycles) • 1GB RAM = 1GB Physical RAM• 1GB Disk = 1GB Physical Disk

• No Oversubscription; committed to each VM• Great for customers with limited IT resources• Modeled like a physical environment

• Great for customers who have not yet virtualized• Great for customers not familiar with virtualization engineering• Great for demanding workloads that need dedicated and predictable

computing resources (CPU & RAM)• Great for migrating physical environments to cloud

Page 10: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

Computing Delivered to Customer:• 10 vCPU x 2.4GHz = 24GHz of full cycles dedicated to applications• Processing is committed at the Virtual Machine Level• 20GB RAM Dedicated to applications• 1TB of Disk – Premium (Solid State & 15K SAS) or Standard Options

Evolved Virtual Data Center

• Data Center; not a single VM• 2.4 GHz = 1 Physical Core• 1GB RAM = 1GB Physical RAM• 1GB Disk = 1GB Physical Disk

• Different Allocation of CPU Resources• Most systems never use processing potential• Pricing based on 1 GHz of processing, not the FULL vCPU

• 1GHz = 40% of vCPU

• Customer has ability to oversubscribe resources within their allocated Reserved Resource Pool (not on the platform) or maintain 1-to-1

• Disk cannot be oversubscribed• Great for customers existing IT resources who understand virtualization• Designed to make best use of virtualized resources

• Great for customers who know their environment and understand virtualization benefits

• Requires close watch, performance tuning

• Common compute model used by VSPP’s

Page 13: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

Virtual Data Center

Computing Delivered to Customer:• 24 GHz share of processing reserved for all customer Virtual

Machines• 24 GHz = 10 vCPU guaranteed in the Reserved Resource

Pool• Processing share is guaranteed on platform resources• 40GB RAM reserved for the pool; RAM can be over-

committed by customer administrator• 1TB of Disk – Premium (Solid State & 15K SAS) or Standard

Options • Virtual Machines can be built to the maximum of

available storage in the pool

Page 14: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

Pros• vCPU and RAM resources are dedicated

to the virtual machine they are provisioned

• Performance-oriented and predictable for intensive applications and workloads

• No risk of over-subscription by Customer administrator or by the service provider

Dedicated vServer Virtual Data Center

Cons• Customer needs to procure enough

dedicated compute (CPU and RAM) to cover all Virtual Machines

• No over-commitment of processing and memory resources; some cycles may go unused

• More Expensive

Pros• Permits the Customer to over-commit

vCPU and RAM resouces to Virtual Machines within their pool

• Higher density of Virtual Machines can be provisioned on top of available resources

• Less expensive• Resources are guaranteed to customer

from Evolve IP; customer controls over subscription

Cons• Performance can be impacted for

intensive applications if customer administrator over-commits resources

• Customer administrator needs to pay close attention to when the pool should be expanded; un-used resources float in the customer pool based on demand

Pros and Cons

Page 15: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

Which Model Is Better?

Neither!They are just different…

Page 16: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

Which Model Is Better?

• Customers still using physical boxes

• Customers with no IT admin and no time to monitor/manage resources make sense in dedicated model.

• Customers who want to migrate to a Cloud environment but still see the value of the “dedicated server” model.

• Customers who are not comfortable or cannot conceptualize capacity engineering for their environment.

• Simpler computing environments (file servers, AD servers, web servers) fit the resource model better.

• Environments with sophisticated IT administrators can make good use of the resource model and self-provisioning thru automation.

• Customers who are already “virtualized” in their on-prem/hosted environments should always be proposed this model.

• Virtual Private Cloud only opportunities

Dedicated vServer Virtual Data Center

Page 17: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

Customer Access

• ECM allows for resource pooling and Virtual Machine creation within the portal via templates

• Customer administrator will have the ability to create Virtual Machines, assign resources (CPU, RAM, DISK) or adjust based on their preferences

• Virtual Data Center(Reserved Resources) will be presented in a graphical view based on amount of compute available and amount of compute consumed.

• Once all have been assigned and consumed additional resources can be added or customer admin choose to over-subscribe

How do I sell Virtual Data Center?

Page 19: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

Financial

Love

On Time

Alignment

TechnicalTAOLF • The cloud-based solution must align with the financial

goals of the business. Most importantly, you need to determine how this will be measured!

• All stakeholders must love the solution! Find your champion in the process and don’t underestimate the power of emotion in any critical decision

• Timing is everything! If the time is not right to implement new technology….don’t waste design time or meeting with vendors.

• For your Cloud solution to float, you will need to gain acceptance of the buying model at all levels

• A Cloud solution needs to meet the technical requirements of the business. There is no reason going through a financial exercise if the technology doesn’t fit

Page 20: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

How do you know if this deal can FLOAT? Identify Timing First

On Time

1. Is your customer evaluating a hardware refresh?2. Do they have a technical resource who wants all the advantages of an on-

site “data center” but doesn’t want operate an on-site data center?3. Are they evaluating moving from physical from virtual?4. Is Business Continuity driving the need for “The Cloud”?5. Growth, expansion, acquisition?6. Trying to achieve the cost advantages of “efficient IT”?

Page 21: Evolved Virtual Data Center Reserved Resource Pools.

…but if your comfortable with selling compute?

Business Rules

Evolved Data Center: vServer and Reserved Resource Pool Business Rules (cont) • Customer receives 1 IP address per server. Additional IP addresses

available at $5 per address.• Evolve IP strongly recommends that the customer utilize Reflection DBR

services for backup. No nightly backup or restore services are included with the product.

• Customer may over-subscribe Virtual Data Center allocated computing resources (CPU & RAM) up to the maximum amount of disk available in the resource reservation pool.

• Virtual Data Center does not package server operating systems. Operating System licensing must be selected separately to be provided by Evolve IP or Customer provided.

• Evolved Desktop CPU, RAM, and Local Disk cannot be deducted from Virtual Data Center reserved resource pool. Virtual Data Center can be used in conjunction with Evolve Desktop configurations to host line of business applications.
