I hope that you had a great week! I wanted to men on just a couple of items this week. First, just a reminder: that star ng the Friday a er Labor Day, on Friday, September 11th, we will have a Communion Service at 8:30 am every Friday morning in the church. In the past, of course, we have had no Mass or service on Fridays as Fr. Trey generally takes Friday as his day off for the week. Adding this communion service will allow another opportunity for those of us who would like to spend some addi onal

me in communal prayer and to also give us another opportunity to receive communion in hope that it may strengthen us in living our daily lives. I would hope that you would consider joining us on Friday mornings beginning September 11th. Secondly, I wanted to men on our RCIA process here at St. Jude. A new year of RCIA (Rite of Chris an Ini a on of Adults) will start here in just a few short weeks! This process is open to: 1) Those seeking bap sm in the Catholic faith; 2) Those who were bap zed in another Chris an faith and who are interested in conver ng to Catholicism; 3) Adults already bap zed as Catholics but never received the sacraments of Reconcilia on, Eucharist or Confirma on. The RCIA process helps them to complete their ini a on into the Catholic Church. If you know someone who may be interested in learning about our faith or possibly conver ng, invite them and encourage them to “inquire”. There is no obliga on. The sessions begin on Wednesday, September 9th and are held every Wednesday night here at St. Jude from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. If you know someone, please have them call me, 766-2431 or send me an email, [email protected] and I will gladly answer any ques ons that they may have. I pray that you may have a fantas c week! May those who come to know and see us, come to know and see Jesus!

MEDIA MINDFULNESS We are all online now more than ever. During this me, it is vital that we as Chris ans prac ce media mindfulness. Here are a few ques ons we should ask ourselves about what we consume (watch, listen to, follow, etc.) and what we portray (like, share and post), see diagram below.

Further Reflec on from the Ar cle "Integra ng Faith and Media Literacy - Catechist Magazine"

Although these media are gi s, they do not always promote what is true, good, and beau ful, and therefore they o en do not support the dignity of the human person. It is even more crucial for Catholics to know and understand how their values, and specifically the Gospel values we teach in catechesis, help them live happy and fulfilled lives within the all-encompassing digital environment. Too many parents and teachers sit on either extreme of the media use spectrum: “It’s all evil and should be avoided” or “It’s hard to say no since all their friends are watching/using it.”

Both of these approaches are unhelpful since neither guide children to be discerning Chris ans today. If we do not give our youth the skills to integrate these values into their everyday choices, then they will not have faith as a founda on and grounding force in their future lives. Teaching the faith is not for the moment but for a life me.

The methodology is circular since the ques ons help us go deeper as we move along in the discernment process of our media experience. The Media Mindfulness Wheel can be a guide in making media literacy part of all of our faith forma on experience.

This method of theological reflec on can be used with any popular media ar fact: movie, song, TV show, social media feed, YouTube video, or video game. Strategizing ways to insert media mindfulness in a religious forma on se ng puts cri cal thinking and discernment skills at the core of a lived faith. For the full ar cle from Catechist, click here: h ps://www.catechist.com/integra ng-faith-media-literacy/…

Please contact Michaelyn to signup to volunteer or if you have ques ons.

Culture of Life Reflections

“God’s love — individual, real, unchanging — is the true source of our worth, identity, and dignity. It really is not a question of who we are, but rather whose we are. Because his love will never change, nothing can reduce our God-given dignity, and nothing can diminish the immeasurable worth of our lives.”
