Every truck range has a driving forceThe FUSO Super Great (FP/FV) extra heavy-duty series is indeed a force to be reckoned with. Now, world-proven heavy-truck

technology is available in 4x2 and 6x4 configurations with GVM’s from 18 to 26 tonnes. The new extra-heavy models are the

synthesis of 80 years of FUSO technology and automotive know-how and are truly excellent in terms of driver comfort, safety,

durability and economy.

SUPER GREAT FP 18-350 TT

Vehicle Description:This 350hp 4x2 truck tractor with a 42 000kg GCM has a steel suspension making it extremely suitable for both regional and intercity hauling. An ideal truck tractor due to its short wheelbase and good power and torque delivery.

Typical Applications:Short to medium haul distribution, cartage, freight, parcel, deliveries and truck hire companies.

SUPER GREAT FV 26-350 MIXER

Vehicle Description:Utilising the same chassis and power train as the tipper, this unit doubles as a mixer. The 10-speed synchromesh gearbox is ideal for the heavy construction industry with deep first and reverse gears.

Typical Applications:Building and construction industry.

SUPER GREAT FV 26-350 TIPPER

Vehicle Description:With a GVM of 26 000kg this 6x4 truck develops 1620Nm@1100rpm and rates highly for its ruggedness and agility.

Typical Applications:Heavy-duty tipper, building and construction industry, mining industry and skip waste.

Vehicle Description:The FV26-350 Tipper can be converted to an economical short haul truck-trator, suitable for working in a rugged and difficult environment.

FEATURESCOMFORT AND DURABILITY

SAFETY AND RELIABILITY

Maintenance - Both the FUSO FP and FV series incorporate innovative new ideas to simplify service and maintenance. Items requiring daily and pre-operational inspections are located under the front panel, which lifts up for direct access. The new cab mount structure with modified hinges makes a 45-degree cab tilt possible, less effort for the cab tilt operation is further modification crucial for easy engine maintenance and servicing.

Advanced Braking System - All FP and FV models are equipped with dual circuit full air braking systems including ABS. Maximum additional retardation is also provided through a standard engine brake, allowing a driver extended safety margins in stopping without using the truck foundation brakes.

Chassis - FUSO have developed a lighter and stronger frame construction for the FP and FV series. These engineering enhancements have made the chassis significantly lighter and more durable, easily meeting the varied load requirements and severest of road conditions. The newly designed frame web rivets the side rail and cross member, ensuring long-term strength and durability. The upper surface is rivetless, making the rear body mounting easier.

Drivetrain - One engine model, designed with fuel economy as prime output, powers the entire range. At 12882cc displacement, the FUSO 6-in-line, turbo-intercooled diesel engine provides up to 309kW of power and 1770Nm of torque in the line-haul truck tractor and freight carrier, while this power is specially de-rated for maximum economy to 257kW in the mixer/tipper model. The line-haul units are equipped with 16-speed synchromesh transmissions whilst the FUSO FV mixer/ tipper has the tried and tested 10-speed gearbox.

Cab - Mounted on coil springs with shock absorbers that effectively diminish road shock, protecting the cab’s integrity and providing a smooth ride, whilst reducing operator fatigue. Generously spaced cab interior offers superior levels of comfort and is high functionality. The agronomical design of the cab creates a friendly driver environment and ensures relaxed functionality. This is further enhanced by the glare-free instrument panel and adjustable steering wheel.

A short history of FUSOIt all started with a single bus – the prosaically named B46 – in 1932. Seven metres long, with a passenger capacity of 38, it was powered by a seven litre, 6 cylinder engine that produced a credible 100 horsepower. The company marked this auspicious occasion by inviting employees to come up with a nickname for their inaugural vehicle and FUSO, an ancient Chinese term for a sacred tree, was chosen. The princely sum of three yen was awarded to the lucky winner! (The actual Fuso tree is a hibiscus, known in Japanese as “bussoge”. It is an evergreen that grows about three metres high and produces beautiful red and pale pink flowers.)

Over the past eighty years the company, FUSO, has flourished and continued to produce new and exciting varieties that have become as much sought after and admired as their horticultural namesake. The 21st century is an exciting time for FUSO. We are now a fully consolidated business unit of Daimler AG and can therefore safely say we are part of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers. This incorporation puts us on a strong footing to extend our reputation as the longest serving and most popular range of heavy duty vehicles in Japan to the rest of the world, with special interest in South Africa, with whom we have enjoyed close ties for many years.

Today, with over eighty years of technological innovation and expertise under our belts, we are more committed than ever to manufacturing, innovation, selling and servicing our range to the complete satisfaction of an ever-expanding customer base. To you we say thank you for your continued support and faith in us. And to those who are about to experience FUSO for the first time we say welcome to the family.

A look into the futureSince the original B46, acclaimed by contemporary experts for its performance on steep hills, rough roads and its extraordinary durability, FUSO has always striven to produce the benchmark by which other manufactures could measure themselves.

Thanks to inspired product planning, we have always stayed at least one step ahead of our competition and in our earlier days were acknowledged by government as having made a sizeable contribution to Japan’s overall economic miracle. Later, our buses helped usher in, and cope with, the burgeoning tourist industry. During this period of rapid economic growth we helped realise the birth of high-speed, high-payload transport and, as society’s needs diversified, we were always first to provide tailor-made solutions by developing relevant payload and size variations to fit any and all requirements.

In the future, we will forge ahead by pursuing the three cornerstones of commercial vehicle success – economy, safety and comfort – while adding our own cornerstone; harmony with the environment and compatibility with the drivers and passengers of our vehicles. To this end, we are committed to clean diesel engines, low fuel consumption and compliance (in fact, over-compliance) with the strictest emission control laws.

Ongoing projects include the development of light duty trucks and small buses that exploit alternative fuels such as gasoline, compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, as well as investing in hybrid vehicle research. We are also pioneers in the area of barrier-free vehicles, with non-step buses for senior citizens and people in wheelchairs. Obviously we at FUSO realise we must continuously look to the future. However, we also believe that true success comes from never forgetting our past.
