Students do not attend school on this day except for their conference with you and their teacher. Our 3-Way Conferences are an opportunity for your child to share their learning and successes thus far. It is also an opportunity for new goals to be set for the remainder of the year. Letters with general in- formation and parent login codes were sent home in the last week of last term so please check your child’s schoolbag if you have not seen this. The PTO online booking system is now open with timeslots to consider. There is a link on our website that will take you straight to the PTO page where you enter your name and code and make your book- ings. Please contact the office if you have any issues or have not got a code to enter PTO. KUNG FU PUNCTUATION takes over GK This term sees the introduction of Penny Punctuation to GK. Penny is a member of the VCOP gang and she will play a big part in developing writing in every classroom across the school. Penny will support our students using punctuation, building from full stops to question marks until eventual competency builds in using ellipses and semi-colons - among other more complex forms. You will see Penny and the punctuation pyramid in every classroom and every child will be able to tell you what they are using in their writing as the term progresses and more importantly, what they are aiming to progress to in writing. Penny gets serious about her punctuation and has a range of Kung Fu actions that go with each punctuation. We are all learning these punctuation moves this term. Adding ac- tions to the visual assists the brain in embedding the punctuation so it can be recalled more naturally when writing. This is much the same as the cued articulation that is taught in prep when our prep students learn letter sounds. You will see our students eventually use these actions to activate strong punctuation use. So it actively assists the writing process but is also a great deal of fun. As the year progresses we will be slowly introducing the rest of the VCOP gang to you until the VCOP writing approach is fully implemented by this time next year. In the meantime, ask your child to show you some of the moves. Additional School Crossing Supervisor This week I received a letter from the Banyule City Council informing us that an additional crossing supervisor will be placed on Ryans Rd, between Wallowa Rd and Parry Rd . This will occur as soon as a crossing supervisor is available. Community concern and notifica- tion to Council has caused this to occur and thankfully Council have listened and acted on this. Have a great week everyone. Leanne
