Our staff are committed to maximising the learning opportunity in these last weeks of the term so as to ensure students complete their semester’s curriculum work and are best prepared to fully engage with Semester two’s work. Parents should feel confident that with only two weeks of school remaining this semester, students will be supported by classroom routines and academic programs that will run uninterrupted up to and including the last week of term. School arrival and departure routines for students should remain as per usual during this time. School uniform standards will continue and general student behaviour must remain within the bounds of school rules and safety. I ask that parents support teachers by ensuring students are reminded of these expectations and that parents play their part in ensuring students attend each day, on time and come with the appropriate attitude to learning and their behaviour. When a child complains of feeling sick at school, he/she is first assessed by classroom teachers to determine if there is a need to send the child to the office to be collected by a parent/caregiver. All classrooms have band aides and access to ice for minor first aid however if it is obvious the child is injured and distressed and they will be sent immediately to the office. On other occasions teachers will let a child rest in the classroom for ten to fifteen minutes prior to sending them to the office as it may be the children just needs some time to settle. If after this time there is no improvement, the class teacher contacts the office and the child is sent to the office with their school bag. On arrival they are again assessed and if required one of our office staff members will then immediately contact parents/caregivers to collect their child from school. School is no place for a sick child and so unless it is apparent that the child will be fit to return to class within a short time, parents are contacted to arrange collection. Although this can sometimes prove inconvenient for parents, it is important to recognise that the school has neither the facilities nor the resources to care for sick children, beyond an initial assessment. On most occasions staff members determine illness based on what children tell us about how they are feeling. Please ensure that the school’s record of contact details, including work and mobile numbers are current. Sometimes parents have the difficult decision to make about whether a child is well enough to attend school. We acknowledge that keeping a child home can mean that parents themselves must miss work. As our school’s core focus is on learning, parents may be contacted if their child presents as unwell. It is not in a child’s best interest to be at school when sick. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter. REPORTING TO PARENTS Very early next semester the school will send report cards to parents via email. Parents who do not have an email address will still receive a hard copy of the report card. It is essential that all parent contact details remain accurate on our records. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that your email contact is accurate. Please contact our office to make changes to your contact details if required.

MAINTAINING OUR FOCUS AND MAKING EVERY DAY COUNT

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL NEWS Week 8 has been a productive week with students and teachers working hard to complete work in key curriculum areas and start assessment tasks. Whole body listening is encouraged in classrooms to assist students in not just listening but also reasoning, questioning and understanding what they are learning. All students are encouraged to be courteous, active participants and engage in their learning.

Teachers continue to revise our school rules with students, which are I am Respectful, I am Responsible, I am Safe and I am a Learner. A focus for this term is re-establishing routines and expectations at school. Uniforms

All students are required to wear the correct school uniform. This week, the most common items that students are wearing incorrectly are incorrect shoes, socks and jumpers. Please see the list below of the uniform options and requirements:

Jinibara polo shirt Jinibara unisex shorts or skorts School dress Jinibara reversible house coloured hat Plain white or Jinibara ankle socks (not black or with logos) Black shoes with black laces

(the black shoes can be leather, vinyl or joggers with black laces, buckle or velcro) Jinibara jacket/jumper or plain maroon or grey jumper/jacket (no hoodies or motifs) Jinibara long sleeve polo shirt Plain maroon or grey tracksuit pants Plain maroon or grey tights

Contact Details

Please ensure your contact details are current as there have been times where the school has been unable to contact parents. Communication is vital, particularly if your child is unwell. See or phone our friendly office staff to update your contact details. This includes phone numbers, emergency contact details and email addresses which are used by class teachers and school staff to communicate with parents. Your child’s End of Semester Report will be emailed to the address on record. It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that your contact details are accurate. Road Safety

Just a reminder that the bus lane is for buses only. There have been some people driving through the bus lane as well as dropping off or picking up children from the bus lane. Please follow the road rules and use the car park at the front of the school or the Kiss and Go at the back gate. This is for the safety of all children.

Our target is for students to attend school is 93% or more of the time. This week, however, our attendance dropped. It is very important for students to attend school on time every day. It is vital for children’s academic and social development. Every day really does count. Please notify the school prior to the start of the school day if your child is sick and is going to be absent. This can be done by calling 3491 1266. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing students every day and on time.

PERFORMING ARTS NEWS WEEKLY PERFORMANCE AWARDS: Congratulations to the following students who were recognised for their efforts in our various

Performing Arts groups during Week 7 of Term 2. Week 8 awards for both choirs will be in our next newsletter. Skittles: Paige 3JD2 Junior Band: Laura 4J2 Senior Band: Payton 5F1 Senior Dance Troupe: Year 5 Jemma 5 E2 & Kaizen 5 E2 Year 6 Lucee 6F4 Paige 6F3 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC NEWS – this is EXCITING!!!

The North Coast Regional Music Team has found an exciting way for our students to participate in an online group Concert Band event. Our Junior and Senior Band students have the opportunity to record themselves playing their own part of a band piece. This

will be combined with other musicians from the region performing their part until they have created a huge online Concert Band performance. I have emailed home the information for Junior and Senior Band parents to read and consider. If you did not receive this email for some reason, please contact me and I will ensure you get the information. I am so excited about experiencing the finished product. I am sure it will sound amazing. This is an EXTENSION activity designed for students comfortably working at their level. Some Senior students may feel more

comfortable presenting the Junior piece. We want our students to be SUCCESSFUL and not to stress. If they would enjoy the challenge well, get practising!! Please consider this an OPTIONAL activity.

Also, a huge congratulations to Skittles students this week. Almost every student remembered to bring their equipment. Thank

you to our parents for your support with that. CHOIR NEWS

It was a bit of a slow start for both SENIOR & JUNIOR Choirs this week. Due to the hurdles many families have had to overcome we just have to take it step by step in returning to a new NORMAL. For those who just forgot or found it tricky to get to rehearsals please try and come along to get things underway a little stronger, in the next two weeks, before the holidays. REMEMBER - NEW MEMBERS are always welcome. Neither choir requires an audition just a little commitment for rehearsals and potential

performances. DANCE TROUP NEWS

The senior dance troupe are working towards submitting a jazz dance video for the ‘Everybody Sing and Dance Now’ Competition for 2020. This was going to originally be a live dance competition in the Sunshine Coast, however due to CO-VID 19 the competition structure had to be changed. The senior dance troupe and I are thankful that they have been able to modify the program in order for the competition to still take place via video format. Video submission is due on the 1st of September. FIVE FUN DANCE FACTS

A Conga Line - have you enjoyed

being in one of these???

The record for the longest conga line was set when nearly 12,000 people conga-ed in Miami, Florida, on March 13, 1988

Rapper Tupac Shakur was a ballet dancer. He was a member of the 127th Street Ensemble, a Harlem-based theatre company.

The "gumboot" dance originated in the gold mines of South Africa. Because the miners were forbidden to talk, they communicated by stomping their feet and slapping their boots (gumboots), which evolved into a form of dance.

Salsa is derived from the Spanish word for "sauce," and refers to the hot and spicy flavour of the dance.

The movie Footloose is based on a true story about a town that outlawed dancing until local high schoolers successful challenged the law in 1979.
