ISSUES FACED BY BUILDING OWNER/DEVELOPER
1) Customers/Tenants want electricity 24 X 7 basis
2) Changeover from Grid to DG / DG to Grid causes temperature fluctuations in the Air
conditioned Area
3) Diesel Generators create smoke & pollution. A lot of heat /energy is wasted.
4) Quality of Power Supplied by Grid ?
5) Waste water to be recycled .
One Solution for all these
Energy Center (Distributed Gas based Cogeneration system)
DLF ADOPTION: PIONEERING DISTRIBUTED
CO-GENERATION TECHNOLOGY
Energy Center consists of Gas based co-generation plant comprising of multiple gas
turbines and gas engines along with Vapour Aborption machines
Generates electricity as well as uses the waste gases of the power generating
equipments in vapour absorption machines (VAMs) for generation of chilled water for air
conditioning of buildings.
Known as Distributed power plants because these are setup very near the
consumption centers as against the conventional system of transmitting power for hundreds
of KMs from bigger power plants.

ENERGY CENTER- KEY FEATURES
Energy Center has state of art “energy management system” to deal with complex
generation/distribution network and ensures continuous and uninterrupted power.
District Cooling concept adopted to supply chilled water for Air Conditioning from
centralized energy centers to neighboring buildings spread across a distance of 3 KM.
Entire network of Chilled Water pipelines and HT cables are physically protected with
adequate safe guards
Natural gas used as green fuel which is safe with auto ignition temp of 482°c and is
lighter than air
NOx EMISSION < 100 PPM
Sound level at 1 m distance from equipment < 85 db

KEY ADVANTAGES OF Green Energy Centers
a) Avoids use of Ozone depletor CFC s
Use of Vapour absorption machines instead of electrical chiller using CFCs
b) Uses 100% Recycled waste water by Sewerage Treatment Plant :
Feasible due to centralized Energy centers
c) Reduction in per sft energy consumption due to centralized generation and distribution.
Running of Electrical Chillers in each of the recipient buildings at suboptimum capacity is avoided
especially when only some tenants operate on 24 X 7 basis.
d) Environmental friendly Green project: Eligible for availing carbon credit benefits at UNFCCC
DLF Silokhera Energy center registered at UNFCCC for availing carbon credits (CERs) for using gas
based efficient environment friendly technology.
e) Helps to avoid national wastage of Energy/Fuel resources.
Innovative Novel concept of environmental friendliness by having decentralized distributed
cogeneration plants near the load centers. ( Huge T&D Losses avoided)
f) Better disaster recovery plan and protected against any strikes, bandhs etc
Capability to generate electricity and chilled water for air conditioning both on Gas and HSD.
Provided uninterrupted continuous 24/7 electricity even during the Northern grid failure
in July 2012.
g) Frequent start & shutdown of machines, appliances, devices avoided:
Life expectancy of various equipments, appliances ,devices installed in the DLF commercial
buildings is better due to continuous, reliable and steady and high quality power from Energy
centers.

h) Lower Emission intensity ( t CO2/Square meter/Year) compared to other Commercial
buildings.
Based on the study done by M/s PWC and benchmarking DLF Infinity Towers & DLF Building -8
with other conditioned buildings covered under ECO-III project ( Study of more than 760
commercial buildings done by USAID & BEE), the following analysis is concluded.

DLF’s Solar Initiative : The ROOF TOP WAY
1. DLF has engaged two renowned solar power
companies to utilize the vacant rooftop of its
commercial buildings across India to install
Solar Rooftop PV Projects.
2. The CUMULATIVE CAPACITY will be 3 MW
and it would generate about 4.2 mn units in a
year.
3. The Solar green energy will add to our efforts
to make our buildings environmental friendly.
4. Till date ALREADY COMMISSIONED 250 KW
of capacity. Balance shall be completed in
next 10 months.

Cybercity Gurgaon.
2. Use of high performance reflective glass in buildings
3. Use of green materials like fly ash in construction
4. Heat insulated roof treatment while executing projects
5. Sky walks and pathways connecting the buildings for reduction in carbon footprint
