News Post, February 2014 Everlast Alpine Challenge 2014 resounding success - A Big Thank You For all of those who took time out of your busy schedules to join and take part in their first Everlast Alpine Challenge. We hope it provided you with a platform, to network and develop opportunities with like- minded individuals, whilst enjoying the small amount of snow that was on offer. The Everlast Alpine Challenge was set to be a tremendous event with a large number of attendees making up the first Challenge. For the toboggan race night the crowds gathered attended the Garmisch Olympic Stadium to enjoy the action packed racing which is synonymous with the Zipflracer. The toboggan race brought the event to an entertaining close with an expected high level of competition and varied tactics, all creating a fantastic spectacle for those watching. More fun was added to the race night with a sweepstake which was a great success and raised further money for our Charity, Skiing with Heroes. Everlast Group RestructureAs many of you will already know, we restructured our business in June 2013 which, during a period of austerity and economic downturn, was a very difficult decision to make. To change the culture of our business, albeit based on the same principles of quality and innovation upon which the company was always founded, was a big deal to our shareholders, staff, clients and supply chain. We are, however, very pleased to report that the restructure, coupled with a corporate rebrand, has been a resounding success.

We were very conscious that “bigger is not always better” and the restructure was not intended to be about increasing turnover or profitability, it was very much focussed at defining the Everlast offer and stabilising the business through introducing a higher level of control and diversity at board level. Jonathan Asquez, partner at Gordons LLP, said:

“The Everlast business has industry-leading experience in its waterproofing, rail and scaffolding markets but from a corporate standpoint each part of the business came under the Everlast Waterproofing banner.

Everlast approached me in 2013 with a clear vision of how it wanted to distinguish and develop its expertise in those sectors while also strengthening the overall Everlast brand. I was delighted to be able to help to put in place a group structure in line with that vision.”

The restructure very quickly created a new drive to achieve better performance, due in no small part to the competitive nature of our now independent Waterproofing, Rail and Scaffolding divisions! Consequentially, we have seen an increased level of turnover in every division, resulting in an overall increase of 70% across the group when comparing the previous six months - something which we have achieved whilst maintaining margins and increasing control at site level.

We’re very proud of this achievement and take this opportunity to thank everybody involved in helping us to accomplish this.

Construction Industry Late PaymentsDavid Cameron has announced further action to tackle the issue of late payment in the construction industry later this year on tackling late payment, which will be looking for views on a range of questions including what can be done to increase transparency around companies’ payment terms, how the Prompt Payment Code can be strengthened, and whether more can be done to enforce existing legislation.

It is likely to include banning ‘grossly unfair’ payment terms which can only be a good thing.

The Prime Minister said: “It’s not right that suppliers are not getting paid on time for the work they do and the services they provide and I know that late payment can have devastating effects on our small and medium sized businesses. I am determined to make Britain the best place to start, grow and do business and to back people who want to work hard and get on. The government has already taken steps to help address this issue but I am clear that more needs to be done to build a business culture across all sectors of the economy that sees the fair, prompt and reliable payment of suppliers become a core corporate responsibility which is taken seriously at the most senior levels.”

Everlast Rail Update

3 of 4

Everlast Rail Division near completion of roofing works at Edinburgh Waverley Station as part of a complete refurbishment of the building by C Spencer ltd with Everlast were awarded the contract to overlay the asphalt roofs over the main station and operation buildings using a Triflex liquid applied waterproofing system.

The total area of the roof is approximately 2800m² and though the majority of that area was contained within the 4 roofs over the station offices, a significant amount was carried out to smaller roofs over plant rooms, lift shafts and the retail concourse with its’ glazed dome and roof lights.

The Rail Division work towards a completion in March of a 2.5M roofing project at Nottingham Railway Station for Vinci/Taylor Woodrow. Works consist of both New Build and Refurbishment works to Platforms, Main Station building, Porte Cochere and the New South Concourse using traditional slate/tiling methods, glazing, sheet cladding, rainscreen cladding, single ply and liquid coatings.

Site Waste Management PlansSince December 2013 contractors in England are no longer required by law to prepare site waste management plans (SWMPs). The government’s repeal of SWMPs, which currently apply to any construction project in England costing more than £300,000 were designed to encourage the reuse, recycling, recovery and disposal of waste, and forms part of its Red Tape Challenge to remove unnecessary legislation to free up businesses.

It is likely that SWMPs may still be required under BREEAM as a condition set by planning departments or by the main contractor or client.

There’s not a lot gone on in the world of safety since our last update but here is an overview of what has happened legislation wise and at Everlast itself:

• There have been no changes to Legislation or Standards having a significant impact on the company’s activities this month.

• Everlast Group is pleased to report no accidents, incidents or environmental spillages this month.

• Everlast Group has entered our submissions for this year’s ROSPA Awards and the NFRC Safety in Roofing Awards. We are hoping to replicate last year’s Gold Awards from both schemes.

• Driver CPC Scheme Deadline is Looming – Under the Driver Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC) Scheme professional drivers of HGV’s are required to hold a Driver CPC Card to demonstrate competence or can face a £1000 fine. The scheme requires drivers to undertake 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to maintain their competency. The scheme started in September 2009 and the deadline for the end of the first 5 year training cycle is September 2014 meaning that any companies employing professional HGV drivers need to make sure their drivers have completed the required 35 hours of CPC training by this date.
