Evergreen Welcomes Dr. Rachael Knoll, Regional Presbyter

For The Presbytery Of South Alabama And The Presbytery Of Mississippi

To Meet Our Congregation And As Our Worship Service Preacher On Sunday, July 30

Rachael Knoll, Faith Journey

I grew up in Brandon, Florida a suburb just outside of Tampa and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Brandon. The church has always played an important role in the life of my family. The church was a place where each of us were able to explore our God given gifts and be able to use them to serve God and others in a variety of ways particularly, in the area of missions. Each summer, I would spend a week at Cedarkirk, a Presbyterian camp and conference center nearby. My experiences at summer camp were incredibly formative for my faith journey and relationship with Jesus.

I attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where I received a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs. During summer breaks, I would return home and work as a counselor at Cedarkirk. In the summer before my senior year, a mentor and Presbyterian minister, suggested to me several times that I should consider whether or not God was calling me to seminary. Like Sarah in the Old Testament, I laughed every time she suggested it because it was my intention to attend law school. However, on my way back to Washington D.C. for my senior year I found myself on the campus of Columbia Theological Seminary and completely enamored with the campus and courses of study.

On June 10, 2000 I married Eric Knoll and on June 17 I began serving my first call as the Associate Pastor of Timberridge Presbyterian Church in McDonough, Georgia. I can attest to the fact, that was a very busy week! I was so fortunate to have a wonderful first call and was blessed to learn so much from their guidance and our growth together. In 2004, Eric and I welcomed a son, Jack Knoll who has been our most fun challenge as we face the teen age years. In 2006, I resigned my position since it became clear to me that the new pastor who had been called intended to explore separating the church from the Presbyterian Church (USA). This was a time of great sadness and I experienced a real need for God’s strength.

In June of 2006, I was asked to consider a position at McDonough Presbyterian which is a mere four miles away from Timberridge. Again, I laughed at this idea because it seemed rather absurd at the time. Ten years later, I have been blessed by a wonderfully strong and spiritual congregation. After finishing my D.Min. in May of 2015, I very clearly felt the stirring of the Holy Spirit encouraging me to be open to a new opportunity for ministry. I am very excited about the opportunity to serve both the Presbytery of South Alabama and the Presbytery of Mississippi as their Regional Presbyter. I look forward to new challenges and new things that God will raise up as we are in ministry and service together.

A Letter from Lucille Adams, our New Presbyterian Women Moderator

Dear Evergreen:

I would like to thank you for putting your trust in me to serve as your Presbyterian Women Moderator. I look forward to my turn and will make every effort to put my best foot forward to serve you well by keeping you informed and promoting the purpose of P.W. (Presbyterian Women.)

I also want to thank the circle moderators and board members who have taken responsibilities with the P.W. organization.

If you have never been an active member of P.W., let this be the year you become active. There are two circles which meet on the second Tuesday of each month—one in the morning and one at night. Please give this prayerful consideration. You will receive a blessing.

Our study for 2017-18 is Cloud of Witnesses: The Community of Christ in Hebrews written by Melissa Bane Sevier. I have read the study, and we are in for a treat.

Each year P.W. continues to have the Alabama-Mississippi Women’s Conference. At this conference we get an in-depth review of the upcoming study as well as many, many other studies and ideas to promote Presbyterian Women. Want you please consider joining us for this outstanding meeting which will be held July 19-21, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, AL?

If you have talents in crochet, knitting, etc., the Alabama-Mississippi’s Women’s Conference gift shop needs items to sell. These goes to much needy causes.

Also, the Fall Gathering of P.W. will be September 30 at First Presbyterian Church, Bay Minette, I hope many are planning to attend this event.

I hope you are subscribing to the P.W. magazine, Horizions. The subscription is $19.95 per year; but through your subscription, you will receive a $12.00 P.W. Bible Study Book which will help our local budget. I read Horizions from cover to cover and can’t wait for the next to come. This magazine informs us what our connectional P.W. is doing all over the world.

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to the P.W. Birthday Offering in May.

We are excited to announce that the District South Alabama Spring Gathering will be held at Evergreen in 2018.

Our kick-off for our local P.W will be in September. I look forward to seeing you.

Blessings,

Lucille Adams

Dear Staff and members of Evergreen Presbyterian Church:

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Girard Elementary School, we would like to thank you for

the lunch provided to our staff, Garden Project and use of the grounds during our safety drills.

The 2nd grade students looked forward to coming over on Friday to work on the garden and

the presentations.

We appreciate your thoughtfulness and continued support.

Sincerely, Glenda D. Sanders, Principal

We want to thank you for your prayers, food, cards and wonderful caring phone calls

throughout Jerry’s past surgeries. One of our many blessings on our move to Dothan was

when our paths crossed with the Evergreen family. Jerry and Lucille Adams

JUNE at Mama Tina’s

What a week at Mama Tina’s!! There were a number of our regular meal Preparers and Servers who were on vacation or ill this month. At first an Intense panic came over me and then an amazing calm. For when I sent out

my SOS people came to our rescue.

Our greatest surprise came on Wednesday evening. We were not looking for additional help and were pretty certain none of our Youth could make It. What an amazing gift when 6 young people walked through the door Ready to prepare plates and stay with me to serve- so that the regular Adult workers could have their

evening free.

So… Evergreen, the next time you see Lillie, Ella, Emma, Charles, Luke, or Brett be sure to thank them for being our MAMA TINA’S

GREAT GIFTS!!

In a world where everyone says young people are self possessed-

take A look at our Evergreen Youth. They are the best ever!!!

Thanks be to God for all who helped to raise these amazing young people!

Love,

Dee June Volunteers & Meals:
