Diploma for a 1st Place at the World Winter Universiade for a student of MTF STUThe MTF STU student Natália PREKOPOVÁ participated in the World Winter Universiade 2013 in Trent, Italy. She placed first in the 15km individual race.

The faculty management and all employees of MTF STU congratulate Natalia. We wish her many other successes in sports and academics. The faculty dean has granted the student a motivation scholarship.

Student Event – Discover What You Are Interested InOn 27. 2. 2014 an event entitled “Discover what you are interested in and join us!” was organized for all students at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology STU in Trnava. The organization was supervised by student of MTF STU Bc. Peter Pilch who wanted to increase awareness of students about extra-curricular activities at the faculty. He also acquired financial sources from ESF via the project KomPrax and the organization Iuventa to organize this interesting event.

Part of the programme was a non-traditional lecture about informal education led by Mgr. Viera Šimkovièová from Iuventa. The lecture was followed by a two-hour long block of presentations from student organizations, sport clubs and other informal student associations. Nearly all representatives of these organizations, clubs and associations active at MTF STU accepted an invitation. The friendly atmosphere was made complete especially by two students playing their guitars, a photographer, and two students performing soccer tricks, two volleyball players demonstrating their art, as well as particular competitions and refreshments. More than 50 students visited this event.

We thank all who participated in the organization of the event and all who participated.

Excursion to the company Miba Steeltec s.r.o.On 14th of March 2014 students of the 1st school year of engineering study, in the field of Engineering of Production Quality, participated in an excursion to the company Miba Steeltec, s.r.o. in Vráble. The excursion was a part of the subject “Case Studies in Quality Management” and its aim was to define a practical task about the prevention of mistake formation in the production process of pressed lamination for students. The excursion was prepared by the company’s production manager Radovan Martišoviè who accompanied the students. The students had the chance to observe the production process, to see a real pressing device, a drawing documentation and Peter Gajdoš (device constructor) explained to them the pressing process and tool construction. The defined problem will be solved during the next seminar from the subject “Case Studies in Quality Management” led by Ing. Yulia Šurinova, PhD. Outputs will be evaluated by company experts who will provide students feedback regarding the applicability of designed solutions for elimination of the problem. We wish students a lot of success and many good ideas for solution of a real problem.

We thank the company Miba Steeltec, s.r.o. for their cooperation, especially to Radovan Martišoviè, for excellent preparation of the excursion and provision of needed materials for the seminars.

N-trophy4 at the MTF STU

N-trophy is a competition for students of middle schools. The competition is full of experiments and exploration in the unique environment of regional universities. The competition fields were biology, chemistry, physics and logic. Three-member teams from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic had to solve various tasks. The tasks are comparable to those approached by research teams. This year N-trophy was organized for the students from South Moravia Moravian Slezsko, Trnava and Žilina districts. Interdisciplinary competition is one of the key activities of the project “Support of talents in natural science and technical fields in the Slovak- Czech border area.” It is under the Operation programme of cross-border cooperation between Slovak Republic – Czech Republic 2007-2013, with the project code: ITMS 22410320042.

On the 1st of March 2014 the regional round of N-trophy at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology STU in Trnava was organized at the Institute of Safety, Environment and Quality. It was organized together with the Trnava self-governing district. Twelve three-member teams from the Trnava district participated in total. The subjects were supervised by the employees of the institute – Logic: Ing. Lenka Blinová, PhD., Ing. Alica Bartošová, Ing. Ondrej Tatarka, Ing. Tomáš Štefko and Ing. Jozef Horváth; Biology: RNDr. Maroš Sirotiak, PhD., Ing. Jaroslav Zigo and Ing. Michal Belèík; Physics: Ing. Jozef Fiala, PhD., Ing. Martin Pastier and Ing. Marcel Kuracina; Chemistry: Ing. Anna Michalíková, CSc., Ing. Mária Draxlerová, Adriana Peterková and Bc. Janka Drhová took care of all important services.

“At the beginning you do not know nearly anything. You can see only a system which you do not know; you do not know its operation, its reactions and often where it begins and where it finishes. And your time is counting down.... If your system is an atom, universe, cell, chemical alloy or for example weather, you try to find valid rules. You always have questions, you disprove hypothesis, you specify measurement and you search for relations. The difference between N-trophy and real research? Research can last sometimes centuries. In the competition N-trophy the students had only a few hours....”

The Job Day 2014 was held

The second year of the event "Job Day" was held at MTF STU on March 12th 2014. The aim was to provide possibilities for acquiring information about companies active on the labour market for future graduates of the faculty and potential applicants for a job. The event also created conditions for real communication between applicants and students on one side and employers on the other side.

The faculty management gave students of the engineering study degree a free day off to enable them to listen to presentations or to talk with company representatives at stands in the entrance hall of the Faculty.

The number and structure of the 19 presenting and exhibiting companies and institutes also contributed to higher student participation than in the last year.

The international student organization AIESEC had a stand at this event too. The students working in the organization AIESEC informed the faculty’s students about their activities and possibilities for joining various projects.

We thank all representatives of participating companies who prepared attractive presentations and were available during the event at the stands. We want to also thank the students and employees of our faculty who participated and contributed to a successful process. Based on the positive reactions of employees and students we expect that another successful event will also be held in the future years.

The event was held under the auspices of the Division of Academic Activities. Thanks belong especially to all employees of the faculty divisions who professionally prepared the event.

Reception of Foreign DelegationOn the 21st of March 2014, Vice-dean Prof. Dr. Ing. Jozef Peterka, along with the director of the Institute of Production Technologies Prof. Ing. Koloman Ulrich, PhD., received a delegation from the Faculty of Material Sciences and Engineering at the University in Miškolc.

The delegation was led Dean prof. Dr. Zoltán Gácsi, DSc. The meeting was focused on cooperation and preparation of common projects with orientation towards Horizont 2020.

Ing. Miroslav Trnka at MTF STU

On the 19th of March 2014 (Wednesday) at 11.00 a.m. there was a lecture by Ing. Miroslav TRNKA in the lecture hall of MTF STU on Paulínska Street 16 in Trnava. He is a co-establisher of the company ESET which is a leader of proactive protection against Internet dangers, and Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA defines the company as one of the fastest developing technological companies in Europe, the Near East and Africa.Miroslav Trnka studied at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, Slovak University of Technology.

The lecture was made in cooperation with the Junior Chamber International - Slovakia as a part of the cycle "An Idea Changed to Success". Students and employees of MTF STU came to the event. After the presentation on his “ways to success,” Ing. Trnka answered interesting questions during discussion.We would like to thank Ing. Trnka in the name of all participants for his time with an interesting discussion about his life story, and to Mr. Meško from JCI Slovakia for co-organizing this interesting event.

Survey on the Quality of Education – Information on an InitiationDear students of the MTF STU,

The faculty management wants to ask you, as we do every year, to fill out a student questionnaire. You can express your opinion about the process and organization of study programmes, you can evaluate teachers and education, and you can point out negatives in the social sphere or mention any other problem in 3-5 minutes. The survey will be available from 1- 20, March 2014. The password to enter the survey system will be sent to your email by the end of February.

The survey is optional and anonymous. Some students mentioned during meetings with the faculty management that they are not sure if it is anonymous. Therefore we want to assure you that we never search who is the author of opinions; we are only trying to solve a particular problem.

Two representatives of the faculty management have access to the survey at MTF. After the completion of submissions the results will be processed and shown to the faculty management and selected indicators will also be published on the faculty web page.

At the same time relevant information will be provided to the management of institutes so there will be reactions to your comments on two levels – at the faculty and institutional levels.
