About the Performers
Marybeth Daniel is a music major from Ft. Payne, Alabama. She hasalways had a love of learning and music is an important part of it. Shewas a recipient of the Legacy Scholarship here at JSU. Marybeth knewshe wanted to become an educator when she was in high school. Shestudies piano with Dr. Wendy Freeland.
Christina Booker is a graduating senior (Vocal Music Education) fromMadison, Alabama. She studies voice with Mrs. Teresa Stricklin.During her time at JSU she has been a member and section leader of ACappella Choir, Chamber Singers and the Calhoun County CivicChorale, all directed by Dr. Patricia Corbin. She has performed forseven different JSU opera productions under the direction of Dr. NathanWight. Christina is affiliated with Sigma Alpha Iota InternationalWomen's Music Fraternity where she serves as music chair for the ThetaBeta chapter.
Mengyue Jia is a sophomore from Chengdu, China studying GeneralMusic. She has received piano scholarships since spring of 2012.Mengyue was also a participant on the 2012 Honors Recital. Herhobbies include playing the drums, writing songs and photography. Shestudies piano with Dr. Wendy Freeland.
Kristen Balschi is a sophomore clarinet player studying under MarkBrandon. She is from Harrison High School (Kennesaw, GA), and iscurrently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education here atJSU. She performed in many ensembles in high school, includingdistrict honor bands, all-state bands, the Midwest Clinic, AMEA,GMEA, GYSO and MAYWE. Here at JSU she serves as principalclarinetist for Chamber Winds, has participated in the Symphonic Band,the musical "Brigadoon" as well as Jacksonville Opera's upcomingsummer production of "The Mikado." She is also a proud member of theMarching Southerners. Kristen was named a 2011 Mark of ExcellenceOutstanding Soloist by The Foundation for Music Education, is on theDean's List and is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi. Upon graduation,Kristen plans to further her education by obtaining a Master's degreewith a focus in Music Theory. She plans to teach band and eventually,music theory at the college level.
Graham Bennett is a senior from Birmingham, AL majoring in MusicEducation. He is currently studying trumpet with Dr. John Merriman.He has served as leadership of the Marching Southerners, and has playedin various ensembles during his time at JSU. In addition he has played ingroups such as the Night Flight Big Band, Birmingham Brass, PelhamStreet Brass, and the Madison Scouts drum and bugle corps. He is alsocurrently the president of the Epsilon Nu chapter of Phi Mu AlphaSinfonia, professional fraternity for men of music.
Kaitlyn Graves is a senior Vocal Music Education major fromTuscaloosa, Alabama. She studies voice under Mrs. Teresa Stricklin.She is a member of A Cappella Choir, Chamber Singers and CalhounCounty Civic Chorale, all directed by Dr. Patricia Corbin. Kaitlynperforms with the Jacksonville Opera Theatre directed by Dr. NathanWight. She performed in The Fisher, The Fish, and The Wife (chorus),Dounod's Romeo el Juliette (chorus), and in The Princess and the Pea(princess). Kaitlyn is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota InternationalWomen's Music Fraternity.
Olivia Brown is a sophomore from Newnan, Georgia majoring in musiceducation. She was the recipient of the David L. Walters Department ofMusic Outstanding Freshman Award for the 2011-2012 school year. Sheis on the JSU Dean's List. Olivia serves as co-principal flute with theJSU Chamber Winds ensemble, is assistant flute section leader for theMarching Southerners, and is a sister of Sigma Mu Alpha Iota. Oliviastudies flute with Dr. Jeremy Benson.
