They will be joined by hundreds of creative food and drink producers showcasing innovative food and drink meeting the latest trends driving demand for nutritious, healthy and sustainable food and drink.
Identifying opportunities in a consumer-driven market is a key theme for this year’s event.
New for 2019 the ‘Future of Retail Trends’ theatre will bring together industry insiders for a series of thought-provoking debates examining future market trends. Reflecting one of the year’s dominant trends is the new ‘Plant-Based Pavilion’ which will showcase truly innovative vegan and vegetarian products and brands. Living, Symprove and Bimuno. Meanwhile, the UK’s growing appetite for cosmopolitan flavours is catered for in the ‘Country Pavilions’ and ‘International Ingredients Live’ theatre.
In an industry which thrives on innovation, the inaugural ‘UK Future Brand’ competition attracted hundreds of entries from across the country. Industry experts have selected the brands with the potential to be the next big thing, and Food Matters Live will be introducing them in the prestigious new ‘UK Future Brands’ pavilion.
In this preview, you will find all the tools to help you plan your visit to Food Matters Live 2019. Come ready to do business with some of the most exciting healthy, clean-label, better-for-you and natural innovators in food and drink.
The Food Matters Summit In addition, as part of the Food Matters expanding portfolio, we are delighted to announce the inaugural Food Matters Summit, which will run alongside Food Matters Live 2019 in the prestigious Platinum Suite at London’s ExCeL.
Described as the Davos of the food industry, with sponsors including KSM-66, GE, Tate & Lyle and Kerry, the Summit is the first high-level gathering of its kind in the UK and has an ambitious agenda to challenge conventional thinking across the food supply chain. The Summit believes that sharing the very best new thinking will inspire industry leaders and accelerate innovation across this complex sector.

Insights from the buyer panel:
Competition is fierce“With the pure number of new brands coming into the market, it can be overwhelming and increasingly difficult to make the right decisions. Just having a great product with great packaging that tastes fantastic isn’t enough anymore. Now you must really have investment and a large marketing budget to make a brand fly, even if you are only supplying independent retailers.”
Paul Hargreaves, Chief Executive, Cotswold Fayre
A vibrant UK start-up platform“The best entries showcased great innovative thinking looking for first-mover advantage in emerging consumer trends as well as creating clear USP at the core of their propositions.”
Olivier Sevenou, R&D Lead - Future-facing / Health & Wellbeing, pladis global
Spotting the unexpected made the panel’s job exciting“The countless numbers of new products entering the market can be overwhelming. Some days, I wonder if we are almost at saturation point, but it never ceases to amaze me when I spot the little gems from time to time. Those new innovative products, that are bang on trend, have an ethical attachment and hit the mark in terms of being healthy.”
Wan Mak, Head of nutrition and dietetics, Sodexo.

Food Advisory Board
It’s OK to eat ‘a bit of everything’: how to reassure confused consumers
Q&A Event and Launch of Food Advisory BoardTuesday 19 November, 10.00 – 11.00, Gallery Room 11, open event
For the Food Advisory Board’s first ever Q&A, members of the board will address the importance of maintaining dietary balance, the practicalities of doing so, and the nutritional science behind the key food groups. The discussion will highlight the ways in which producers can be more aware of the confusion faced by consumers, when in fact, maintaining balance needn’t be complicated.
Is it OK to eat Red Meat?
Panel discussion with the Food Advisory BoardTuesday 19 November, 14.00 – 14.45, Gallery Room 11, open event
With vegan and vegetarianism at an all-time high, discussion surrounding the “dangers” of red meat consumption are more pervasive than ever. Amidst all of this, not much attention is lent to the essential nutrients red meat can actually provide, and the key role it can play in a healthy, balanced diet. This event will bring together nutrition professionals from the Food Advisory Board, in an informative discussion focused on the key public misconceptions about red meat and the nutrients it contains, drawing on the latest academic research.
The Food Advisory Board is a group of diet, nutrition & health professionals, researchers, and agricultural experts. Their objective is to provide independent, objective, and evidence-based information on a wide variety of food groups that should comprise a healthy and balanced diet.
